Smotrich: ‘Israel must go to war in Judea and Samaria’  Hezki Baruch

Smotrich visits town of Bat Hefer: ‘Anyone who talks about establishing a Palestinian state abandons the residents of Sharon and central Israel to death and endangers the existence of the State.’

May 30, 2024, 2:47 PM (GMT+3)  INN – Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich visited the town of Bat Hefer following the Wednesday shooting there.

He met with the head of the Emek Hefer Council Galit Shaul, the head of the Southern Sharon Council Oshrat Gani Gonen, the head of the Kadima-Tzoran Council Keren Green, Hod Hasharon Mayor Amir Kochavi, and the heads of villages.

During the visit, the Minister reached the point where the shooting occurred yesterday and spoke with the council heads and residents at the site.

Smotrich said during the visit: “Yesterday in the morning hours, terrorists from Tulkarm came not far from here and carried out a shooting. The State of Israel must ensure the safety of the residents of Sharon and the safety of all citizens of Israel. Every Israeli citizen desires peace and the prosperity of the State of Israel; we all fully agree that we cannot live with threats of shooting towards our settlements, not in the north, not in the south, not in Samaria, and not in Sharon.”

He added: “We are facing a cruel enemy on all fronts, and I came this morning to be here. In the coming days, we will convene all the heads of the local authorities for a working meeting to promote an immediate security response for you.”

He addressed the residents and heads of the settlements and said: “Tonight in the cabinet, I will put my full weight on this matter. The security of the settlements here is the security of the entire country. Our mission is not how to stop the shooting until the next ‘drip’, but as a state and as a government, we are committed to your security, to eliminate the threat, and to let you live in safety. This is our job and this is what will be, any other option is a failure.”

“So that, Heaven forbid, Kfar Saba doesn’t become Kfar Gaza and Bat Hefer doesn’t become Be’eri, we must strike a decisive blow to terror. So that, with God’s help, we will do,” Smotrich concluded his remarks.

Revealed: Hamas robbed Gaza bank to fund fighting against Israel

IDF Arabic spokesman Avichay Adraee reveals Arabic-language document showing that the Hamas terror group robbed Gazan civilians of hundreds of millions of shekels.

May 29, 2024, 6:56 PM (GMT+3)  Israel National News –  IDF Arabic spokesman Avichay Adraee on Wednesday evening revealed a document written by a senior Hamas terrorist documenting the fact that the terror group robbed a Gaza bank in order to fund the fighting against Israel.

According to the document, the war brought Hamas severe financial difficulties. For this reason, armed terrorists broke into branches of the Falestine bank in Gaza, stealing over 400 million NIS.

“At the beginning of February, Hamas strongmen threatened the staff of the Falestine bank in the Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City, telling them to remove the cash from the bank’s ATMs, and on April 16, they stole hundreds of millions of shekels from the branch. Two days later, they broke into another branch in Gaza Ccity, stealing tens of millions of shekels. On April 19, the terrorists carried out another robbery, at the Gaza City’s main branch, stealing hundreds of millions of shekels,” Adraee wrote.

“What will the residents of Gaza think, when they see they are becoming poorer from day to day because of the bloody adventures of these baby-murdering tyrants?” he asked.

“Hamas is stealing from the civilians in the Gaza Strip in order to fund its own survival, with absolutely no shame, and is funding its terror activities at the expense and out of the pockets of the Strip’s residents,” Adraee stressed.

Blinken: Israel must come up with a post-war plan for Gaza

US Secretary of State warns that the absence of a post-war plan could trigger lawlessness, chaos and a comeback by Hamas.

May 30, 2024, 3:23 AM (GMT+3)  Israel National News – US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday urged Israel to come up with a post-war plan for Gaza and warned that the absence of such a plan could trigger lawlessness, chaos and a comeback by Hamas.

Speaking at a press conference in Moldova and quoted by Reuters, Blinken said that while Israel has had real success in destroying the capacity of Hamas to repeat an attack such as the one that occurred on October 7, the Israeli government now had to ask whether further gains against Hamas would be durable without a post-war plan.

Citing the added difficulty of Hamas being closely embedded with civilians, the Secretary of State said, “And I think this underscores the imperative of having a plan for the day after because in the absence of a plan for the day after there won’t be a day after.”

“If not, Hamas will be left in charge, which is unacceptable. Or if not, we’ll have chaos, lawlessness, and a vacuum,” he warned.

Blinken also said he could not verify whether US-supplied weapons were used by Israel in the recent strike in Rafah, adding that what weapons were used and how would have to be the object of an investigation into the attack.

His comments come amid disagreements between the US and Israel over plans for the day after the war in Gaza, as well as over Israel’s operation in Rafah.

The White House recently confirmed it had paused a shipment of bombs to Israel due to US opposition to a planned Israeli attack on the Gazan city of Rafah.

The shipment which was paused was supposed to consist of 1,800 2,000-pound bombs and 1,700 500-pound bombs, a US official told The Associated Press last week.

A day later, President Joe Biden warned that he would halt shipments of American weapons to Israel if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu orders a major invasion of the city of Rafah.

Subsequently, however, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Biden administration notified Congress that it is moving forward with more than $1 billion in new weapons deals for Israel.

Pentagon Press Secretary Patrick Ryder told Channel 13 News last week that the US has not yet decided whether to transfer to Israel the weapons shipment that was recently delayed.

ICC Arrest Warrant for Netanyahu: Unlikely and Unenforceable   By Antonio Graceffo

May 29, 2024 4:20 pm – The International Criminal Court (ICC) is seeking arrest warrants for the Israeli Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. However, the warrants have not yet been granted, nor has authorization for an investigation, and the ICC has no police force to enforce the warrants if they are issued.

ICC Prosecutor Karim A.A. Khan has applied for arrest warrants for five individuals connected with the Israel-Hamas War. Three from Hamas: Yahya Sinwar (Head of Hamas in Gaza), Mohammed Deif (Commander-in-Chief of the Al-Qassam Brigades), and Ismail Haniyeh (Head of Hamas Political Bureau) for war crimes committed in Israel and Palestine from October 7, 2023.

The other two alleged perpetrators are Israeli officials: Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, and Yoav Gallant, the Minister of Defense of Israel, for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza from at least October 8, 2023.

Israel’s specific actions condemned by the ICC prosecutor include closing border crossings, blocking aid supplies such as food and medicine, cutting off cross-border water and electricity to Gaza, and attacking and killing aid workers. Israel states that the aid workers were killed accidentally in the normal context of war.

They justify the other allegations by citing the need to prevent terrorists from entering Israel and to stop weapons and ammunition from getting into Gaza. These measures pertain to Israel’s sovereign borders, and a country has the right to enforce its border policy. Ironically, Egypt is not being charged despite also closing its borders, hindering refugee exits, and preventing aid shipments from entering.

The official statement of the ICC acknowledges that Israel took these actions to (i) eliminate Hamas, (ii) secure the return of hostages abducted by Hamas, and (iii) collectively punish the civilian population of Gaza, whom they perceived as a threat to Israel.

It is questionable whether the third point is true. As for eliminating Hamas and recovering the hostages, the ICC did not offer an alternative solution for how Israel should achieve these goals through acceptable means.

Those in favor of the ICC warrants against Israel point out that the ICC has also issued warrants for nefarious characters like Vladimir Putin and various other dictators and despots.

The rogues’ gallery of high-level offenders who have had ICC warrants enforced on them includes Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi, his son, and brother-in-law for crimes against humanity; Uhuru Kenyatta, Kenya’s finance minister and a deputy prime minister; former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak; former Guatemalan President Efrain Rios Montt for genocide; former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo for crimes against humanity; and Kosovar President Hashim Thaci for war crimes. Supporters of the ICC warrants argue that if Israel’s allies flout these charges against Israel, it undermines the court’s authority to take action against other violators.

Before issuing an arrest warrant, the ICC must undergo several steps, including a preliminary examination, authorization of an investigation, gathering of evidence, and a review by a Pre-Trial Chamber. An investigation must be conducted to establish sufficient grounds for the warrant.

If Israel refuses to cooperate with an ICC investigation, the ICC can still proceed by relying on evidence gathered from other sources, such as non-governmental organizations, international agencies, or states willing to assist.

Moreover, the UN Security Council has the authority to refer situations to the ICC, even if the country involved is not a signatory to the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the ICC and defines its functions, jurisdiction, and structure. However, this referral requires a resolution supported by the majority of Security Council members, which can be difficult to achieve due to geopolitical considerations.

If sufficient grounds are found to issue the warrant, the ICC lacks a police force to enforce it, relying instead on member states to carry out arrests. Only countries that are signatories to the Rome Statute are obligated to enforce these warrants. Israel is not a signatory, which complicates the situation. The State of Palestine, while not a signatory in the traditional sense, has acceded to the Rome Statute.

In contrast, the US, China, India, Russia, and almost all Arab states are not parties to the Rome Statute. This means that unless the individuals in question travel to a signatory country willing to enforce the warrants, the likelihood of their arrest remains low. While signatory countries would be obligated to arrest the Israeli Prime Minister if he visited, no country would invade Israel to make the arrest.

Although the U.S. is not a signatory to the Rome Statute, it holds considerable influence over many ICC member states. The U.S. can leverage diplomatic pressure to discourage countries from cooperating with the ICC in specific cases.

Additionally, the U.S. has passed laws, such as the American Service-Members’ Protection Act (ASPA), which includes provisions to protect U.S. nationals and allies from the ICC’s jurisdiction. This can extend to diplomatic efforts to protect Israel.

If the countries tied to the crime are not signatories to the ICC, the court can still investigate if the United Nations Security Council refers the case, if a non-signatory state accepts the court’s jurisdiction, or if the crimes occurred on the territory of a signatory state. However, Israel is unlikely to accept the court’s jurisdiction, and neither Israel nor Palestine are traditional signatories.

Therefore, obtaining a referral from the UN Security Council would be necessary, but this is unlikely given that three of the five permanent members (the US, China, and Russia) are not signatories and would likely object. Even if Russia and China perceived that they could gain some benefit by agreeing to enforce the ICC investigation, the United States could still veto the resolution.

The bottom line is that the issuance of an arrest warrant is unlikely, and the enforcement even less so.

May 29, 2024, 10:08 AM (GMT+3) Israel National News – Disturbing documentation was published yesterday (Tuesday) from the city of Beit Shemesh in which Arab construction workers staged a raid on a house.

The workers, who work at a construction site in the Ramat Beit Shemesh neighborhood of Neve Shamir, walked around the building in the neighborhood holding metal rods like guns, and according to the tenants, they also entered the building and scared children.

The resident of the building told Beit Shemesh News: “The Arabs went around the building screaming while they were supposed to be working, yelling and harassing the children who were playing in the building, one of them they also took a ball that he was playing with and made threatening movements with the sticks in their hands.”

According to the police, three workers were arrested at a construction site following the incident and taken for questioning. “Following the incident, policemen from the Beit Shemesh station were called to the scene. The policemen arrested and transferred three suspects – construction workers – to the police station for questioning,” the police said.

However, despite the documentation, the police clarified that there is no suspicion of a security incident. “We note that as part of the police investigation, the suspicion of any security offenses in this case has been ruled out.”

Reservist soldier from Education Corps says she was forced to accept reassignment to prison to guard terrorists who committed October 7 massacre despite document from psychiatrist.

May 29, 2024, 12:47 PM (GMT+3) Israel National News – Tamar, a reservist who was recruited into the military police and was assigned to guard imprisoned terrorists from the Hamas Nukhba force, spoke about the difficulties faced by female guards in this position and the neglect of the military establishment in an interview with Kan Reshet Bet.

“Girls are forced to harm themselves to get out of the job. I saw marks on the body that girls made to get out of the job,” Tamar said.

Tamar originally served as a commander for new immigrants just starting their IDF service in the Education and Youth Corps and was not in a combat position. But when she received order 8, she realized that she would be assigned to guard the terrorists from the Nukhba force who carried out the massacre on October 7.

“I have friends who were murdered at the Nova music festival, one friend who miraculously survived and I told myself there is no way I am going to look their killers in the eyes,” she said.

After realizing that she would be recruited to guard the Nukhba terrorists, she contacted the reserve center where she was told by the representative: “I understand, but I’m sorry, as long as you don’t have an official document you are obligated to come.”

Tamar has a document showing that the National Insurance Institute recognizes her as having a mental disability with a document from a psychiatrist: “This document confirms that this assignment will only worsen my situation. They called and said that I am obligated to come to the interview and if I want to, I will say over these things.”

“I arrived and in the interview, I told her all my background, I brought records of the documents and yesterday evening I was assigned. Someone from the unit called me and I asked her – are you really recruiting me? I have a certificate from a psychiatrist that I cannot do this position. She told me ‘I’m sorry, you can send me the forms now, but I don’t know if it will help,” she said.

She explained that there is a prisoner who is one of the Nukhba force terrorists “and he actually manages the terrorists and all the messages go through him. We have to bring them food through a door that closes, there is a certain compartment and I look at him in the eyes and say to him, ‘Here is the terrorists’ food.’ I take the food and I close the door and leave.”

“For a girl like me, whose friend could have been murdered by him, they tell me, ‘You look him in the eyes.’

“I am ready to do any role in the reserves, but don’t force me to deal with the murderers of my friends. I feel that there is going to be a disaster here, it is important for me to save as many as possible. It feels like my life’s mission at the moment. I told them,’Did you learn nothing from the prison pimping affair?’ I feel that someone is disconnected from the soldiers and says here are the personnel, let’s throw them away.

US Suspends Aid Deliveries as Gaza Pier Breaks Apart   By Hana Levi Julian

21 Iyyar 5784 – May 28, 2024 – The United States has suspended the delivery of humanitarian aid via the maritime corridor from Cyprus after the temporary pier (JLOTS) built by the US Navy on the Gaza shore broke apart in high winds and choppy waves.

This past Saturday (May 25) four US Army vessels supporting the maritime humanitarian aid mission in Gaza ran aground on Israel’s Mediterranean coast due to heavy seas. The choppy waters caused the motorized pier sections that were used to stabilize the Trident Pier to break free from their anchors due to a loss in power; they were subsequently washed ashore in Israel.

“As of today one of the Army vessels that was beached on the coast of Israel near Ashkelon has been recovered. The second vessel that was also beached near Ashkelon will be recovered in the next 24 hours, and the remaining two vessels that were beached near the Trident Pier are expected to be recovered in the next 48 hours,” Pentagon deputy spokesperson Sabrina Singh told reporters Tuesday in a briefing.

“Efforts to recover the vessels are underway with the assistance from the Israeli Navy.”

 

Report: Levi Strauss Heir Rachel Gelman a Major Force Behind Pro-Hamas Groups   By David Israel

According to the ISGAP report, WESPAC sponsors the following organizations, all of them virulent anti-Israel and antisemitic:

1. National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP)
2. US Palestinian Community Network (USPCN)
3. Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM)
4. Adalah New York
5. International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN)
6. Palestine Freedom Project (PFP)

At the top of WESPAC’s grant providers, ISGAP lists the Covina, California-based Bafrayung Fund, to the tune of $300,000. Next on the list is the Elias Foundation, dedicated to the promotion of “progressive ideas,” which forked over only $100,500.

On Tuesday, the Daily Beast revealed the identity of the woman behind the Bafrayung Fund. She is Bay Area resident Rachel Gelman, 33, a scion of the family that owns the Levi Strauss company.

Levi Strauss, who founded the company in 1853, was never married, and when he died on September 26, 1902, in San Francisco, his estate of about $30 million (equivalent to $855 million in 2023), was inherited by Levi’s nephew’s only child, Elise Fanny Stern, who married Walter Haas, whose descendants are the current owners of Levi Strauss & Co.

 

Defense Ministry Reports Hundreds of Northern Israeli Homes Damaged in Hezbollah Attacks   By Hana Levi Julian

21 Iyyar 5784 – May 28, 2024 – Hundreds of private homes have been damaged in rocket and missile attacks launched at northern Israel by Iran’s Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah, since October 7, 2023.

Since Hamas in Gaza launched its war against Israel, Hezbollah has launched more than 3,000 rockets and missiles at northern Israel. Many of the communities from which the residents were evacuated, and to which they hoped to soon return, suffered tremendous damage.

“Losing the North,” a special report by Israel’s Channel N12 News, cited data from the Northern Horizon Administration that revealed that as of May 15, 930 reports of damage to buildings in 86 communities in the Upper and Western Galilee have been received by the Defense Ministry.

“The settlements are neglected, the infrastructure is destroyed and the houses are dismantled. The settlements along the border fence are in a catastrophic situation,” regional council head Meta Asher and the chairman of the Line of Conflict Forum Moshe Davidovich told N12.

Former judge, Israel Bar Association chief detained after major bribery allegations   By  Avi Cohen

The Israel Police launched the investigation in the wake of a report in Haaretz showing suggesting that former Israel Bar Association chief Efi Nave and then-District Court Judge Eitan Orenstein were engaged in an illegal scheme to appoint their cronies.

05-28-2024 10:51 – The Israel Police Lahav 433 Major Crimes Unit (Yahav 433) detained a former district court president and a lawyer for questioning on Tuesday on suspicion of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. They were being brought in for interrogation at the Yahav 433 offices on Tuesday morning.

The two suspects are former Tel Aviv District Court Judge Eitan Orenstein and former Israel Bar Association Efi Nave, who, according to the Haaretz report, were involved in the alleged conspiracy under which Nave would have certain judges preside over specific cases and have his cronies promoted to judicial appointments,  in exchange for having Orenstein being tapped to the position of court president.

The Israel Police launched the investigation in the wake of reports by Haaretz that two months ago showing that therer was an alleged kickback scheme between the judge while he was serving on the bench, and the prominent lawyer.

Officers from the unit arrived at the suspects’ homes, conducted searches, and detained them for questioning at the Yahav 433 offices.

May 28, 2024 6:40 pm – Hamas is calling for a cease-fire. However, they already had a ceasefire on October 6th, but they violated it.

In 2005, Israel withdrew its troops from Gaza as part of a unilateral disengagement plan, which included the evacuation of all Israeli settlers and the dismantling of military bases. Gaza subsequently became a stronghold for Hamas, an Islamist militant group that originated from the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood in the late 1980s. Hamas, which has not held elections since 2006, took full control of Gaza in 2007 following a violent conflict with the Palestinian Authority. Since then, Hamas has utilized Gaza as a base to launch attacks against Israel, including rocket fire and other militant activities. The international community has condemned Hamas for its numerous suicide bombings, rocket attacks, and other acts of violence targeting Israeli civilians. Hamas is designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, including the United States, the European Union, and Israel.

Hamas commits acts of repression and other human rights violations against the people of Gaza. According to Amnesty International, “Palestinian authorities in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip repressed the rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly. Torture and other ill-treatment were reported in Palestinian detention centers. Members of Palestinian armed groups summarily killed several suspected ‘collaborators’. In Gaza, death sentences were passed, and executions were carried out.”

In 1988, Hamas published its official Covenant, which explicitly called for the elimination of Israel and the killing of all Jews. In 2017, Hamas released an updated version, the Document of General Principles and Policies, which removed the specific language about killing Jews but still did not recognize the legitimacy of the Israeli state, referring to it as “a racist, anti-human and colonial Zionist project.” The document states, “The Islamic Resistance Movement ‘Hamas’ is a Palestinian Islamic national liberation and resistance movement. Its goal is to liberate Palestine and confront the Zionist project.” It defines Palestine as the land “from the River Jordan in the east to the Mediterranean in the west and from Ras Al-Naqurah in the north to Umm Al-Rashrash in the south.” This definition encompasses the entire territory of the State of Israel, implying the complete elimination of Israel as it currently exists.

Given the ongoing threat that Hamas poses to the state of Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asserted that Israel will never be safe unless Hamas is completely annihilated. To this end, he has launched one of the most intense military campaigns since the beginning of the Ukraine War. Israel provided warnings for civilians and non-combatants to leave Gaza. However, their exit is being impeded by neighboring countries. The Rafah crossing, the only border crossing between Gaza and Egypt not controlled by Israel, has frequently been closed or heavily restricted by the Egyptian government. This has severely limited the ability of Gaza residents to flee to Egypt during periods of conflict. To exacerbate the situation, Egypt is also blocking humanitarian aid from entering Gaza through Rafah, further contributing to the humanitarian crisis.

The Israel Defense Force (IDF) has faced accusations of targeting civilians, with women and children comprising more than half of the casualties. However, given that women and children make up about two-thirds of Gaza’s population, they are more likely to be collateral damage when Hamas is targeted. Additionally, women and children have been involved with Hamas, sometimes as human shields or suicide bombers. The term “children” includes those under 18, and Hamas has used minors in combat roles for harassment by throwing stones at IDF soldiers or using kites for espionage and dropping incendiaries.

Israel has also been criticized for restricting aid shipments to Gaza. The rationale behind this includes the fact that Hamas and other Islamic terrorist groups have used aid shipments to smuggle weapons, ammunition, and military equipment. As the governing authority in Gaza, Hamas handles the acceptance and distribution of aid, increasing the likelihood that it will support terrorist activities rather than aid civilians.

There are claims that at least 260 humanitarian aid workers have been killed in the conflict, but this does not demonstrate that Israel is intentionally targeting aid workers. War zones are inherently dangerous, and although aid workers, press, and other noncombatants are not intended targets, they face significant risks by virtue of their roles. Most are aware of these dangers and accept the associated risks. A specific issue with this conflict is that Hamas terrorists have either worked as or posed as humanitarian aid workers. This has led to the suspension of U.S. funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) when it was discovered that several of its employees were involved in the October 7th attack on Israel.

Hamas could alleviate civilian suffering by refraining from using them as shields. They could also release the Israeli hostages and surrender, which would end the current military campaign. Additionally, the entire situation could have been avoided if they had not attacked Israel in the first place.

 

Egypt-Israel Tensions Rising as Egypt Refuses to Open Rafah Border to Palestinian Refugees   by Christine Williams

May 28, 2024 – Pressure is building between Israel and Egypt over Palestinian refugees as Israel prepares its offensive on Rafah, where Hamas is hiding out and using human shields. According to an Atlantic Council report:

Relations between Egypt and Israel have soured in recent weeks as Israel prepares to launch a full-scale ground offensive into Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip—a move that Cairo has warned would put its peace treaty with Israel at risk and destabilize the region.

Egypt fears a sweeping assault on Rafah—where more than one million displaced Palestinians have sought refuge from Israel’s incessant bombardment of the northern and central Gaza Strip—may force hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees to storm the Rafah border and cross into the Sinai Peninsula with little prospect of ever returning.

As pressure mounts globally, with blame focused upon Israel, Egypt is now beginning to draw attention. Egypt has long warned of “catastrophic repercussions on the humanitarian situation in Gaza and on regional peace and security” from any Israeli ground attack in Rafah, as it continued to push for a ceasefire at Israel’s expense. This is despite the fact that Egypt knows firsthand the dangers posed by the Muslim Brotherhood, of which Hamas is an offshoot. Yet it has not issued any open condemnation of Hamas, leaving Israel isolated in the region and beyond.

New York Magazine said this regarding Egypt:

It has railed against Israel, and it has refused to condemn Hamas. But the government hasn’t actually let any Palestinians come out of Gaza and into the Sinai Peninsula. I may be missing something, but I don’t think Egypt’s refusal to do so has stirred much international outrage.

It’s no secret that Egypt is also concerned about Muslim Brotherhood and other terrorist influences among the Palestinians. Egypt largely eliminated its own Muslim Brotherhood problem in 2013, killing up to 2000 Muslim Brotherhood members in a single  day and imprisoning others.

But Egypt should not be let off the hook so easily. A March 2016 report by the Carnegie Endowment, Egypt’s Shifting Hamas Policies, noted a contradiction in Egypt’s stance toward Hamas:

In the video, Luzon said: “We, reservists do not intend to hand over the keys to any Palestinian Authority. We do not intend to hand over the keys of Gaza to any entity of Hamas, Fatah or any other Arab entity. Prime Minister, the reservists are behind you. We will stay here until the end, until we achieve victory.”

Luzon also addressed Minister Gallant: “You cannot win a war. Resign – you cannot win the war and continue to command over us. I am informing you, Mr. Gallant – if we do not go for victory, 100,000 reservists will remain on the fence. We will not move from the fence.”

“We will call on the residents of the State of Israel to come to Gaza and while we ensure their security, we will listen to one leader – neither the Minister of Defense nor the Chief of Staff. This is the Prime Minister,” he concluded.

The IDF has decided to terminate Luzon’s reserve duty service just hours after he was released from an IDF investigation under restrictive conditions.

According to initial suspicions, it appears that he filmed the video in a makeshift, abandoned building in the center of the country, and not in Gaza.

The Military Police, investigating the incident, have attributes to him offenses of rebellion, incitement to disobedience, disobeying orders, and inappropriate behavior.

His defense attorney sent a letter to the Ministry of Defense, in which he claimed that “my client’s only claim is that he will not listen to any future orders given by the Minister of Defense in violation of his authority (during a dispute with the Prime Minister and contrary to a government decision), while emphasizing and positively clarifying that he will obey an order given by the government itself and the standing at its head”.

He added that “this is selective enforcement – for more than a year, reservists have uploaded a vast number of videos to social networks about their intentions to refuse army orders, and the law enforcement system has never taken such measures.”

May 28, 2024, 4:48 PM (GMT+3) Israel National News – IDF Spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari delivered an address this afternoon (Tuesday) in English on the war between Israel and the Hamas terrorist organization and the airstrike in the Rafah area in which 30 people were reportedly killed on Sunday.

Hagari said that contrary to Hamas’s claims, the airstrike was carried out over a kilometer from the humanitarian area the IDF had civilians evacuate to from Rafah.

In the strike, which killed two Hamas commanders, the IAF used two 17-kilogram (37 pound) warheads, among the smallest in its arsenal, in an effort to avoid civilian casualties.

He said that the fire caused by the airstrike could not have been caused by the munitions used by the IDF and presented a conversation between two Gazans saying that the Israeli strike was not that strong and that the fire was likely caused by munitions or other materials kept by terrorist organizations in the area.

 

Global Outrage After Deadly Israeli Strike On Refugee Tent Camp In Rafah   [VIDEO]   BY TYLER DURDEN

MONDAY, MAY 27, 2024 – 01:00 PM – There have been widespread reports of a civilian massacre following a Sunday Israeli air strike on a camp for displaced Palestinians in the besieged southern city of Rafah, which the Gaza Health Ministry says killed 45 people, including women and children.

Israel says it is investigating the strike, amid widespread international condemnation and as horrific videos of the attack aftermath circulate widely, with Israel’s top military prosecutor calling the attack “very grave”.

Major-General Yifat Tomer Yerushalmi said in a briefing the Israeli army “regrets any harm to non-combatants during the war” and that “The details of the incident are still under an investigation, which we are committed to conducting to the fullest extent.”

The targeted area of the Tal al-Sultan neighborhood had been a recognized UN-run “safe zone” which lies about 2km to the northwest of the Rafah city center.

Incredibly graphic and disturbing social media videos show people burning in tents and rescuers carrying mangled and burned children’s bodies. According to an eyewitness description:

Mohammad al-Mughayyir, a senior official at the civil defense agency, told AFP that at least 40 Palestinians were killed and at least 65 wounded in the Israeli strikes.

“We saw charred bodies and dismembered limbs… We also saw cases of amputations, wounded children, women and the elderly,” Mughayyir said. Eyewitnesses told Reuters that tents were “melting” after the bombardment, burning people alive.

The Israeli strikes followed a rare Hamas rocket launch on Tel Aviv earlier the same day, which included at least eight projectiles, most of which were intercepted.

An international humanitarian organization, ActionAid, said it was “outraged and heartbroken” that the strike hit a tent area to a UNRWQ warehouses stocking “vital aid.”

“The images coming from our partners of burned bodies are a scar on the face of humanity and the global community, which so far has failed to protect the people of Gaza. One of our own ActionAid colleagues narrowly escaped this atrocity, having left the shelter just a day before the attack,” ActionAid said.

A Hamas statement called it a “massacre” and said the group also holds the United States responsible as it supplies Israel’s military with weaponry.

The Palestinian Authority’s (PA) Mahmoud Abbas charged Israel with deliberately targeting civilians. “The perpetration of this heinous massacre by the Israeli occupation forces is a challenge to all international legitimacy resolutions.” He alleged the IDF was “deliberately targeting” refugee tents.

The high casualty event has elicited statements of condemnation from leaders across the Middle East and Europe, as well as from some Democratic Congressional members in the US. This has included EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell who demanded that the ICJ call for immediate ceasefire must be adhered to.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock’s words were especially strong. “No Israeli hostage will be freed if more people now have to shelter in tents,” Baerbock said. “International humanitarian law applies for all, also for Israel’s conduct of the war,” she added.

Against this avalanche of criticism, also at a moment of investigations and legal actions by both the International Criminal Court (ICC) and UN’s International Court of Justice (ICJ) – both accusing the Israeli side of genocide – the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have pushed back, saying Hamas militants were in the area that was hit Sunday.

“The strike was carried out against legitimate targets under international law, through the use of precise munitions and on the basis of precise intelligence that indicated Hamas’s use of the area,” the IDF said. “The IDF [Israeli army] is aware of reports indicating that, as a result of the strike and fire that was ignited, several civilians in the area were harmed. The incident is under review.”

Attorney General: ICC prosecutor disregards Israel’s legal system

AG Baharav-Miara criticizes ICC Chief prosecutor Karim Khan for ignoring that Israel can investigate itself and creating moral equivalence with Hamas, and the ICJ attempt to charge Israel with genocide.

May 27, 2024, 4:26 PM (GMT+3) Israel National News – Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara condemned International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan today (Monday), one week after Khan announced that he is seeking arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

The attorney general accused Khan of ignoring the strength and ability of Israel’s legal system during an address at the annual Israel Bar Association conference in Eilat.

“The decision of the prosecutor ignores, among other things, the fact that the Israeli legal system has proved its independence in the past, its impartiality, and its commitment to the values of truth and justice,” Baharav-Miara said.

“We do not shy away from enforcing the law against any person, even the heads of the military and the state if there are well-founded suspicions of violations of the law. We examine and will examine thoroughly suspicions of illegal actions. We don’t need outside help to clarify suspected criminal activity.” she added.

Baharav-Miara noted that “the states that established the [ICC] saw it as a tool for dealing with situations where there is ‘no law and no judge.’ That is not our situation.”

She further accused Khan of disregarding “the basic legal idea on which the court was founded, the principle of complementarity,” in his seeking warrants against Israeli leaders.

She also noted that Israel faces “unprecedented challenges” in facing an enemy such as Hamas which “abuses in a manipulative manner Israel’s commitment to [international] laws,” challenges that were likewise ignored by Khan.

“Equating the State of Israel’s political leadership to Hamas murderers is a moral failure,” she said.

According to the attorney general, “It would have been more correct for the prosecutor to wait until the internal state procedures were completed before making a decision. It would have been right to give the State of Israel a fair opportunity in this regard.”

Baharav-Miara also criticized the case South Africa brought to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) attempting to accuse Israel of genocide, calling the case “outrageous,” “baseless,” and a “cynical and illegitimate use of the court’s procedures.”

“Hamas is a genocidal organization that murders Israelis and Jews because of who they are. It is carrying out abominable war crimes at this very moment. Hamas is responsible for the suffering of Gaza’s residents, it does not take care of them. It has invested massive sums in building terrorist infrastructure and uses civilians as human shields,” she said.

“My entire face hurt and they gave me stitches in the hospital,” Rabbi Avraham Kroizer recounted. When asked if he would forgive the policeman, he responded: “If he repents, then by all means.”

May 27, 2024, 3:45 PM (GMT+3) INN – Rabbi Avraham Kroizer, 80, who was violently thrown to the ground by a policeman in Meron last night (Sunday), detailed this morning the sequence of events until he was thrown to the ground.

“I was there to see if they would open the barricades or not, and in the meantime, I sat on the side and read chapters of Psalms,” Rabbi Kroizer Behadrei Haredim.

He explained how he got to the place: “I thought that maybe they would open the barrier for me to cross later, because a few moments earlier, I saw an old man accompanied by his two children being allowed to pass. So, I thought they would allow me as well, considering I am also old.”

“But the policemen told me that they would not let me pass, so I made my way back to the place on the side where I was,” he continued. “While I was making my way back, the policeman ran behind me and while running, he shouted at me that he would not allow me to return to where I had been, and then while running, he pushed me forcefully and I fell on my face.”

“My entire face hurt and they gave me stitches in the hospital,” he added. When asked if he would forgive the policeman, he responded: “This is a personal matter of mine. If he repents, then by all means, just let him not repeat these actions.”

In the last 24 hours, there have been violent clashes between policemen and visitors who tried to force their way up to Meron. Disturbing footage published last night showed policemen pushing Rabbi Kroizer hard enough to send him flying before falling on his face.

In another incident, a policeman is seen drawing his gun and firing into the air during a confrontation with citizens who went up to Meron. Footage of that incident shows a policeman punching a haredi man who tried to pass and afterwards drawing his gun and firing into the air, allegedly without any perceivable threat to his life.

Yet another video shows a female officer beating and kicking women who were trying to reach the compound.

Minister Ben-Gvir spoke with the Border Police Commander and the two agreed that all three officers will be suspended pending an investigation.

Concerns of October 7 copycat massacre in central Israel increase

Hamas publishes footage of fire on Jewish towns, at a time when local security squads are significantly diminished.

May 27, 2024, 3:15 PM (GMT+3) Israel National News – A video clip showing a serious security breach was aired Monday morning, reinforcing concerns that an October 7 copycat attack could take place in central Israel.

The video clip shows 30 Palestinian Authority Arabs breaching the security fence separating Kafr Shuweika in the Tulkarem area from pre-1967 Israel, and making their way towards the Jewish community of Bat Hefer in central Israel.

In addition, the Hamas branch in Tulkarem published footage showing its terrorists firing towards the town of Bat Hefer in retaliation for an IDF attack in Rafah in which two senior Hamas terrorists were eliminated.

Earlier this month, Israel Hayom published an expose revealing that civilian security squads which once numbered dozens of reservists have been reduced to just six members following the outbreak of the war.

Lev Hasharon Regional Council head Eli Atun warned that, “In the two communities adjacent to the seam line fence, Nitzanei Oz and Sha’ar Efraim, there are only six reserve duty soldiers left. In Nitzanei Oz there was an original squad of 24 soldiers, and now there are only six. In Sha’ar Efraim there were 22, and now only six. The first response teams have been cut by three quarters. This is a significant reduction in the force and with only six people, it is impossible to guard the entire area and it is impossible to provide security to the communities.”

“We have recently seen activity beyond the seam line fence. Terrorists are taking pictures to check our level of preparedness, as they did in Gaza before October 7th. Those who responded immediately on October 7 were the first response teams. If we are left with teams of only six people, given the possibility of a major attack, it is obvious that we will not be able to provide an appropriate solution,” warned Atun.

Analyst: ‘Vast majority’ of responsibility for October 7 is the IDF’s

Military analyst Yossi Yehoshua says October 7 massacre could have been avoided had IDF’s General Staff acted differently. ‘It is not connected to the identity of the Prime Minister.’

May 26, 2024, 6:52 PM (GMT+3)  Israel National News – Military analyst Yossi Yehoshua believes that the responsibility for the October 7 massacre and the ensuing war rests mostly on the military echelon.  [Emphasis added]

In an interview with 103FM Radio, Yehoshua explained, “The absolute majority of responsibility is on the IDF. Different handling by the General Staff’s echelon on that night would have prevented most of the incident. It is not connected to the identity of the prime minister.”

Regarding the war in Gaza, he added, “We are advancing in Rafah, we have 70% of the Philadelphi Corridor. We should be, eight months after the war began, with even better results against Hamas and dismantling its abilities.”

Slamming the management of the war, he said, “We should have finished the incident there a long time ago – months ago – and placed much greater military pressure on Hamas.” He did not raise the issue of American pressure and arms shipments.

In February, Kan News reported that dozens of Israeli SIM cards had been activated before the Hamas invasion reached the commander of the IDF Southern Command in the last hours of October 6th.

The first telephone call about the report took place between the Southern Command intelligence commander and Yaron Finkelman, the general commander, a few hours before midnight. The call was based on information and evidence from the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) regarding the SIM cards being activated.

Finkelman canceled his vacation in northern Israel and returned to his command. A few hours later, another intelligence service sent even more suspicious findings. The intelligence officer received the information and reported it to Finkelman immediately.

In the first weeks following the invasion, another report claimed that Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and other commanding generals held at least two consultations over the course of that night.

The first consultation was in the early hours of the night, following reports of initial indications from the field. It was decided to hold a second consultation later and not to send additional forces to the area.

During the second consultation, it was decided to hold a third consultation in the morning, and that no forces would be sent to the area and the forces present would not be placed on higher alert.

The ISA likewise understood that something was afoot. ISA director Ronen Bar made his way to ISA headquarters that night and remained there until the war broke out.

In a joint statement, the IDF and ISA claimed, “Reports that 1,000 Israeli SIM cards were activated simultaneously are false and far from the truth. In point of fact, a set of evidence showed that only a few dozen were activated, all of which had been activated in previous incidents. In light of this, the system was prepared and intelligence and operational actions were carried out.”

“As has been reported previously, on the eve of October 7th, information was received due to which assessments were held and decisions were made. The evidence was based on a number of different tools and techniques, including technological tools, the nature and operation of which cannot be discussed. All the incidents and information available about that night will be investigated by the investigative departments of the ISA and IDF. We must be responsible and careful in publications so that they do not impede operational techniques and capabilities during the war.”

May 26, 2024 – Shortly after the IDF capitulated to the ICJ and pulled most of its forces out of Rafah, including handing the Rafah crossing over to Egypt, Hamas fired a barrage of rockets at central Israel. Most were intercepted with one hitting an open area.

The IDF claimed it pulled the Givati Brigade from Rafah, reversing the gains it made in the first weeks of the operation, in order to give them “a rest.” However, the timing of the retreat, which corresponds to the ICJ ruling that Israel must end the Rafah operation makes the IDF move appear connected to the ruling.

International Court of Justice in The Hague (ICJ) ruled on Friday that Israel must “immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part,” there is some debate among legal scholars over what precisely this order means.”

The retreat comes at a time, when frustration is growing among the rank and file soldiers. Most recently a video was released of a reserve soldier claiming there were 100,000 soldiers ready to only follow Netanyahu to victory. Despite the current challenges with Gantz and Gallant, it is ultimately Netanyahu who has been unwilling to fire Gantz and Gallant and appoint competent military leaders ready for a real victory.

The pressure from America to stop the war and capitulate is immense and despite the Prime Minister’s declaration that Israel won’t stop fighting, every retreat gives more power to Hamas and brings the terror group that much closer to victory. Soldiers are frustrated, hostage families are in desperation, the north is unlivable, and our leaders appears to be feckless.

Netanyahu stands like the King Saul of old, opposite the Philistines – scared to face Goliath on his own. We all know how that story ended.

Did the ICJ really prohibit Israel from operating in Rafah?   Gary Willig

4 ICJ justices say ruling on Rafah merely obligates Israel not to engage in actions that violate its obligations under the Genocide Convention, not to desist from all military operations in the city.

May 26, 2024, 8:38 AM (GMT+3)  – Following the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) ruling on Friday ordering Israel to “immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part,” there is some debate among legal scholars over what precisely this order means.

Professor Stefan Talmon, Director at the Institute of Public International Law, University of Bonn, and Supernumerary Fellow of St. Anne’s College, Oxford, stated that the Court “did NOT say that Israel must immediately halt its military operation in Rafah.”

He stated that the addition of the words “which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part” limit the application of the order and permit military action that does not bringing about such conditions, which Israel does not have intention to commit in the first place.

“Thus, Israel was not ordered to halt all military operations but only military operations that would violate its obligations under the Genocide Convention,” Talmon said.

He noted that the ICJ’s order that Russia must halt its military operations in Ukraine following its invasion in 2022 did not contain such a clause and was therefore applicable to all of Russia’s military actions.

Four of the judges who took part in the ICJ’s deliberations on its order agreed with Talmon’s analysis.

Former Israeli Supreme Court Justice Aharon Barak, who has represented Israel at the ICJ in the case South Africa brought against the Jewish State, wrote, “This measure requires Israel to halt its military offensive in the Rafah Governate only in so far as is necessary to comply with Israel’s obligations under the genocide convention.”

Barak added, “Israel is not prevented from carrying out its military operation in the Rafah Governate as long as it fulfills its obligations under the genocide convention. As a result, the measure is a qualified one, which preserves Israel’s right to prevent and repel threats and attacks by Hamas, defend itself and its citizens, and free the hostages.”

Judge Georg Nolte of Germany wrote that “The measure obliging Israel to halt the current military offensive in Rafah is conditioned by the need to prevent ‘conditions of life that could bring about [the] physical destruction in whole or in part’ of the Palestinian group in Gaza.”

Romanian Judge Bogdan Aurescu wrote, “In my view, this measure needs to be interpreted that it indicates as well the halt of the Israeli military offensive to the extent that it ‘may inflict n the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.'”

ICJ Vice President Julia Sebutinde of Uganda wrote, “This measure does not entirely prohibit the Israeli military from operating in Rafah. Instead, it only operates to partially restrict Israel’s offensive in Rafah to the extent it implicates rights under the genocide convention.”

Judge Sebutinde cautioned against misunderstanding the court’s order as “mandating a unilateral ceasefire in Rafah” and “restricting Israel’s ability to pursue its legitimate military objections, while leaving its enemies, including Hamas, free to attack without Israel being able to respond.”

“I reiterate that Israel has the right to defend itself against its enemies, including Hamas, and to continue efforts to rescue its missing hostages. These rights are not incompatible with its obligations under the genocide convention,” Judge Sebutinde concluded.

The Israeli government is also interpreting the ICJ order in this manner so that the military operation in Rafah can continue while obeying the order.

The Head of the National Security Council, Tzachi Hanegbi, and the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oren Marmorstein, released a joint statement on Friday saying, “Israel will continue its efforts to enable humanitarian assistance and will act, in full compliance with the law, to reduce as much as possible harm caused to the civilian population in Gaza.”

Yesterday (Saturday), Hanegbi told Channel 12 News, “What they are asking us, is not to commit genocide in Rafah. We did not commit genocide and we will not commit genocide.”

Minister Gantz: ‘Barrage from Rafah proves: IDF must operate everywhere Hamas is

Minister Benny Gantz toured communities near the Gaza border and an IDF base in the area and discussed the missile barrage on central Israel.

May 26, 2024, 5:26 PM (GMT+3)  Israel National News – National Unity Chairman Minister Benny Gantz toured Kibbutz Kerem Shalom, Moshav Yated, and Kibbutz Nir Oz, near the Gaza border, on Sunday, together with MK Alon Schuster (National Unity) and Eshkol Regional Council Chairman Gadi Yarkoni.

During the visit, he met with residents, security coordinators, and members of local security teams.

After touring the communities, he visited the Urim Base, where he met with IDF lookouts, some of whom enlisted after October 7th.

At the end of the visit, Gantz addressed the missile barrage on central Israel from Rafah and stated: “The launches from Rafah today prove that the IDF must operate everywhere Hamas is. And that’s what will be.

The world must know, that the ones who hold hostages, the ones who fire at our cities, the ones who spread terror – they’re responsible. The Hamas murderers are war criminals. We will settle the score with everyone – sooner or later.”

Soldier who called for rebellion charged with severe crimes

The IDF Investigations Department is charging the reservist who called for soldiers to disobey orders given by the Defense Minister and Chief of Staff with insurrection, incitement to insurrection, and inappropriate insubordination.

May 26, 2024, 3:53 PM (GMT+3)  Israel National News – The Military Police Investigations Department is charging a reservist with several serious offenses after he published a video calling for a rebellion against Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzl Halevi.

Among other things, the Investigations Department is charging the reservist with insurrection, incitement to insurrection, and inappropriate insubordination.

The reservist’s lawyer sent a letter to the Investigations Department claiming: “The only thing my client stated was that he will not listen to a future unauthorized order from the Minister of Defense (while in disagreeing with the Prime Minister and in violation of a government decision), positively emphasizing and clarifying that he will follow an order given by the government itself and the Prime Minister.”

He added: “This is selective enforcement, for over a year multitudes of videos have been uploaded to social media showing reservists announcing their intentions to disobey the military’s orders, and law enforcement did not take such steps.

IDF reduces forces in Gaza after ICJ ruling

Israel and Egypt reportedly will reopen the Rafah Crossing to allow humanitarian aid into Rafah as troops removed from the city.

May 26, 2024, 12:42 PM (GMT+3)  Israel National News – The IDF has reduced the number of troops deployed in eastern Rafah and the Givati Brigade left the Gaza Strip overnight from the area where it had been operating for the last three weeks.

The military explained, according to a report by Ynet, that this was done to allow the troops to return to Gaza and Rafah at a later date ‘refreshed’ after weeks of combat. Four combat teams from the 162nd Division remain.

According to the report, the Givati Brigade’s departure from the southern city in the Gaza Strip comes amid reports that Israel will allow the reopening of the Rafah Crossing by the Egyptian army from the southern side of the crossing, in order to allow additional humanitarian aid income, and accordingly, Israeli forces will be removed from the area.

The withdrawal of the forces comes after the International Court of Justice in The Hague (ICJ) ruled on Friday that Israel must “immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part,” there is some debate among legal scholars over what precisely this order means.”

Police force hundreds out of Meron   Itzik Brandwein

Police have stopped buses full of passengers trying to reach Meron and forced dozens of worshipers out of Meron after they began destroying police barricades.

May 26, 2024, 2:56 PM (GMT+3) – Since the end of Shabbat, hundreds of people have been trying to reach Mount Meron for Lag B’Omer despite IDF orders and numerous police roadblocks.

In the Jordan Valley, the police stopped several buses full of passengers trying to reach Meron. On the mountain itself, dozens were removed by the police after initiating confrontations with police, dismantling barriers, and trying to ascend the mountain.

The police say that ”Since the morning, hundreds of people have arrived at the Meron compound, clashing with police and damaging property that was placed there for their security.”

So far, over 500 people who tried to enter the mountain without permits have been removed from the Meron area in police buses.

The police emphasized that the three planned bonfires that were meant to take place before dawn passed without any exceptional incidents and in accordance with the law.

Biden’s $320M Gaza Pier Has Detached & Drifted Onto Israeli Beach   BY TYLER DURDEN

SATURDAY, MAY 25, 2024 – 12:15 PM – A section of the $320 million floating pier built and erected off Gaza’s coast has broken off and floated onto an Israeli beach. The Saturday mishap is the latest setback for the US humanitarian aid project, after three US troops were reported injured aboard the pier two days prior, including one critically.

The Times of Isreal’s military correspondent Emanuel Fabian has reported that “An American vessel used to unload humanitarian aid from ships into the Gaza Strip via a floating pier disconnected from a small boat tugging it this morning due to stormy seas, leading it to get stuck on the coast of Ashdod, eyewitnesses say.”

The recovery operation has not gone well either, as “Another ship was then sent to try and extract the stuck vessel, but also got beached,” Fabian writes.

And yet a second US Army vessel also got stuck in shallow waters while trying to rescue the pier section. Overnight US ships had been moving two pieces of the floating pier to the Port of Ashdod in southern Israel when the now beached section detached and drifted away. American troops can be seen in footage standing helplessly on the beach.

An official US Central Command (CENTCOM) statement says the following:

This morning four U.S. Army vessels supporting the maritime humanitarian aid mission in Gaza were affected by heavy sea states. The vessels broke free from their moorings and two vessels are now anchored on the beach near the pier.

The third and fourth vessels are beached on the coast of Israel near Ashkelon. Efforts to recover the vessels are under way with assistance from the Israeli Navy.

The pier operation was already last week off to a rough start — and was paused for two days — after desperate Palestinians mobbed and ransacked the first trucks transporting aid unloaded from the pier before they could reach a distribution warehouse managed by the World Food Programme.

The pier has been center of controversy, given a number of land routes for aid into Gaza are possible, but have been blocked by Israel’s military.

Now, to mitigate that devastation amid reports of famine the US government has spent $320 million to build a pier to bypass its own beneficiary’s land-route blockade. But operating it has proven tricky especially due to inclement conditions in the eastern Mediterranean.

At best, the pier will only put a dent in the daunting humanitarian challenge. “I just want to be clear that this humanitarian maritime corridor alone is not enough to meet the staggering needs in Gaza, but it is an important addition,” said USAID Levant response management team director Daniel Dieckhaus. “It is meant to augment, not replace or substitute for land crossings into Gaza.”

At this point, with a section of the pier stuck on an Israel beach, and coming over two months after President Biden first unveiled the ambitious project, the whole initiative is becoming a bit of an embarrassment involving setback after setback.

May 25th, 2024 – 12:36 GMT – ALBAWABA – Recent events have resulted in the US floating pier drifting to the coasts of Ashdod after waves off the coast of Gaza washed away a portion of it, according to Al Jazeera.

US Gaza strategy leaked: Revealing plan for Gaza aid port

The Israeli navy, according to reports, is now working to recover the detached section of the pier that was forced to break away by the might of the waves and reattach it to the main building.

Photographic proof documented the cooperative efforts of Israeli naval troops and US military personnel in securing the detached portion of the pier and dragging it back to the Gaza shore.

Furthermore, according to sources from the Yedioth Ahronoth daily, the divided area includes a flatboat that is often used for loading and unloading goods from ships.

 

US naval vessels disconnect from Gaza aid pier, wash up on Israeli beaches   By EMANUEL FABIAN

CENTCOM reports no casualties, says humanitarian jetty still functioning after four ships break off their moorings 

25 May 2024, 9:24 pm – American vessels connected to a floating pier near the Gaza Strip disconnected Saturday from the jetty due to stormy seas, leading them to get stuck on the coast off Israel, US Central Command said in a statement.

In total, four vessels broke free from their moorings, CENTCOM said, adding that no injuries were reported and the aid pier remains fully functional.

One of the ships got stuck on a beach at the southern end of Ashdod, and another ship sent to extract the stuck vessel also got beached.

The other two vessels washed up on a beach near the pier, the statement said, adding that efforts to recover the vessels were underway with assistance from the Israeli Navy.

The statement stressed no US personnel would enter Gaza to help retrieve the vessels, reiterating the American position of no boots on the ground.

▪️OBJECTION VIDEO IS FAKE.. on Friday a video was released supposedly from a reserve soldier in Gaza (with a mask on) saying the soldiers are sick of the situation having lost their jobs and homes and should consider rebelling against the IDF General and Defense Minister.

.. HOWEVER, the person who made the video was tracked down and arrested.  NOT in Gaza, NOT in the army!  The video was a fake, the trying to convince people to rebel orders – a crime.  He has been arrested.

🔸DEAL, ROUND 33.. the negotiation talks are expected to resume next week in Doha, Qatar when delegations from Hamas and Israel will arrive to present their positions. The head of the Mossad presented to the mediators the guidelines approved by the cabinet, and agreed with the Prime Minister of Qatar and the head of the CIA to meet again.

.. Senior Hamas official Muhammad Mardawi clarifies: “The ball is in Israel’s court regarding the end of the war. A permanent ceasefire is the only way to reach a deal. Any proposal presented to us must include a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.”

.. A senior Hamas official denied to Reuters the reports of renewed contacts in Cairo for a hostage deal.

▪️TUNNELS.. Israeli National Security Adviser Tzachi Hangabi: So far we have found 11 tunnels on the Philadelphia route between Egypt and Gaza, and we have no evidence if our kidnappers were taken out of Gaza.​​​​ (( The Israeli Representative to the ICC said 50 tunnels.  50, or 11?  Or??? ))

▪️A NOTE ON THE IMPOSSIBLE STANDARD OF THE COURT.. (( As many have noted, the court used as some of its reasoning that Israel is instructing Gaza civilians to move out of the combat zone.  Moving civilians out of a combat zone is wrong, and keeping civilians in a combat zone is wrong.  Per the court – if there are civilians, combat is illegal, if civilians are moved it is illegal.  Defense is therefore illegal in enemy territory – regardless of whether they attacked you. ))

May 23, 2024, 11:51 PM (GMT+3) – Will the real Benjamin Netanyahu please stand up? The more I read, the more confused I get.

My critics will say…so stop reading so much. But I can’t help myself, because as a writer, it is my duty to save the world, starting with Israel.

So, here’s a secret, which I now reveal for the first time in the history of journalism and literature. So here goes: Every writer thinks he is special and that his sayings are unique. Every writer thinks he has the answer. We all think that our latest book, our latest op-ed will solve everything.

The world will bestow us with garlands, gratitudes, and prizes, because at last the final word has been written. No more writing needs to be done.

Out goes every newspaper, every website. We have made them all obsolete.

Until, we wake up in the morning to discover that we hardly made a splash. As I often say, NOBODY CARES. Worse, our accusers take turns ripping us to shreds.

We have accomplished nothing. Recall F. Scott Fitzgerald’s lament, “Why all this writing? Nobody reads me.”

So we start all over again, because this time…maybe THIS TIME…

What we do, then, is go back to reading to decide what position to take, which makes sense, except that nothing makes sense. All is confusion, paradox and contradiction.

Thus, a few days ago, Israel’s defense minister, Yoav Gallant, met with US officials and bought the [Democrat] party message hook, line and sinker, saying that after the dust has settled, Israel should not re-take Gaza, but rather hand it back to the Arabs, suggesting that Mahmoud Abbas and his Palestinian Authority would be an excellent choice.

This was met with howls of…are you nuts?

Truly, strange things happen when Israeli leaders meet Blinken and others of that sort…and remember, this is supposed to be a right-wing government.

Until it isn’t.

So why are we fighting…for the benefit of Abbas and his terrorists? The IDF heroes, risking life and limb, deserve better.

At a time when Israel is being pummeled from all sides, Israeli leaders need to get their act together and speak in a single Churchillian voice. Clarity please when the ICC casts a dark shadow over Netanyahu and the Jewish State, and when Ireland, Spain and Norway take the side of terrorists by agreeing to recognize a “Palestinian” state.

Lest we forget that moment of silence for the butcher of Tehran.

Meanwhile, the war goes on, and we learn that only about a third of the Hamas terrorists have been eliminated, while newly-minted Nazis riot on street and campus.

Wobbly won’t do in the face of all this.

Entering the flare-up was Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who smoked out Gallant with mockery, saying that Israel will never trade Hamas-land for Fatah-land.

Sanity at last.

Or so you thought…until Netanyahu appeared on CNN to reverse himself, insisting that Israel has no plan to re-take Gaza.

Rather, it should be governed by the PA, plus an assortment of international troops.

Bottom Line…same old story. Nothing has been learned.

Report: IDF refused to supply canine, soldiers were killed as a result

Soldiers requested a canine from the Oketz Unit to assist in locating explosives. The IDF did not supply the dog, and several soldiers were killed when an IED exploded.

May 23, 2024, 10:31 PM (GMT+3)  Israel National News – An IDF force that raided a new area in the Gaza Strip requested a canine from the Oketz Unit to locate explosives.

According to a report by Kan News military correspondent Roy Sharon, the IDF refused to supply a canine. The soldiers went on the raid anyway and were hit by an IED planted by Hamas, which killed several.

The next day the forces received the dog, but for the soldiers who were killed, it was too late. The division commander in charge of the force is investigating the incident.

The IDF is working to increase the amount of canines in the Oketz Unit. During the war, nearly 30 canines were killed. The dogs identified hundreds of explosives and saved many soldiers’ lives.

The IDF Spokesperson commented on the report: “The incident is under investigation, and when it’s over the findings will be given to the families.” According to the military, “The Oketz Unit has limited resources which are utilized in all fronts of combat and are assigned to various tasks. The decisions on the matter are made per operational necessity.”
