Socialism is never Christian

Today I saw a meme that asked the question:

“Why, when Jesus talked about feeding the poor,
it’s Christianity,
but when a politician does it,
it’s Socialism?”

It’s fairly easy to answer this obvious attempt at false conflation.

The difference is whether the people voluntarily share whatever they may have out of the goodness of their hearts — or conversely, whether whatever they may have is first stolen by the government by force and redistributed as bureaucrats see fit.

The former is an act of faith in God’s abundance exemplifying virtue and selflessness, whereas the latter is mechanized theft and an act of tyranny.

Trying to legitimize socialism by making such ludicrous comparisons to the teachings of Christ only works in the minds of those who understand neither.

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed,
do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
