Food processing corporation Smithfield Foods will shut down its Vernon, California, plant and scale back operations in California, Utah and Arizona, the company announced Friday.

Smithfield “will cease all harvest and processing operations in Vernon, California in early 2023 and, at the same time, align its hog production system by reducing its sow herd in its Western region,” the company said in a Friday news release.

“Smithfield is taking these steps due to the escalating cost of doing business in California,” the company said.

“It’s increasingly challenging to operate efficiently there,” Smithfield Foods spokesperson Jim Monroe told the Wall Street Journal. “We’re striving to keep costs down and keep food affordable.”

Owned by Hong-Kong-based conglomerate WH Group, Smithfield is the largest pork processor in the country by volume.

For those who don’t recognize the name, Partners for Progressive Israel (PPI) is affiliated with the left-wing Israeli Meretz Party, which is part of the current government. “Partners” is also one of the organizations that make up the American Zionist Movement. (J Street, however, had its application to that movement rejected because of its lobbying against Israel.)

In their publicity for the webinar, PPI and J Street said they are protesting “the expulsion of Palestinian Arabs from Sheikh Jarrah, Masafer Yatta and the Negev,” which they described as “the climax of a systematic, decades-long effort to force Palestinians out of the area in order to cement Israeli control.”

Let’s parse that a bit.

The changes were made in the last three months after allegations of improprieties in the citizenship process.

The government is expected to vote at the Cabinet meeting today on Israel’s bid to join the European Union’s Culture and Media Fund.

This is the main program for the advancement of culture in the EU, in which the fund promotes cooperation with its member states and invests thousands of euros in cultural institutions.

But in approving the plan, which the Culture and Sports Ministry is very interested in doing, there is one fundamental limitation: it is not possible to use the budget in localities beyond the so-called Green Line.

The fund would ban assistance not only for the residents of Judea and Samaria, but also to those who live in eastern Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.

The petitioners also allege that the abolition of the ban on blood donations from men who have intimate relations with other men was done for political reasons and was not carried out in a professional manner according to accepted procedure.

The petition was filed by Michael Puah, chairman of “Choose Family,” and his son Yehuda Puah, one of the leaders of the “Ethical” association.

The petition states that, “During the first months following Nitzan Horowitz’s appointment as Health Minister, two significant decisions were made regarding the national blood bank. One was the abolition of the bar on blood donation for men who had intimate relations with men in the past 12 months, and the other was the change in terminology on the donation form, regarding the country of origin of the father and mother of the donor.

4.    18 buses burned in northern Israel

Police confirm buses were set ablaze intentionally, open investigation.

Eighteen buses were burned Friday night in the Central Bus Station in the northern city of Tzfat.

Firefighting teams at the scene gained control of the fire.

Israel Police have confirmed that the fire was caused by arson, and have opened an investigation into the matter.

The fire began just after 3:00a.m., and firefighting chief Dror Buchnik, who was shift commander, ordered that all firefighting teams in the Galilee and Golan areas respond to the scene.

Sixteen of the 18 buses belong to the Afifi Group from Nazareth and to Netiv Express, which is also part of the Afifi Group.

• Ignoring the murder of Christians is, of course, only one piece of the puzzle; covering up the religious identity of their murderers is the other. In describing last Sunday’s massacre of more than 50 Christians, the words “Muslim,” “Islam,” or even “Islamist” never appeared in the AP report. Rather, we are told that “It was not immediately clear who was behind the attack on the church.”
• To maintain this ambiguity, the AP failed to point out that Islamic terrorists have routinely stormed churches and slaughtered many Christians over the years in Nigeria — a fact that might just offer a hint as to “who was behind the attack.”
• All the UN seems interested in doing is sitting by and watching its members violate its regulations… The UN ignores unspeakable crimes against humanity such as slavery or China’s lies about the human-to-human transmissibility of COVID-19, while instead wrongfully persecuting Israel, a democracy that actually upholds human rights for all its citizens — whether Muslim, Jewish or Christian.
• So, what will the UN and other large governmental bodies do now in response to the shooting up of yet another church and murder of more than 50 Christians? Probably nothing — apart from trying to silence whoever tries to expose the ideology that many of the murderers say drives them. We know this because the UN and many members of the clergy have done absolutely nothing in response to the countless other Muslim attacks on churches that have claimed thousands of Christian lives over the years — except for trying to cover up the motivation of the murderers, as in “high on cannabis” or the “mental illness defense.”
