Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, convicted last year of murdering George Floyd, was sentenced on Thursday to 21 years in prison on separate federal charges of violating Floyd’s civil rights during the deadly May 2020 arrest, with the judge calling the ex-cop’s actions unconscionable.
Chauvin, who pleaded guilty to the federal charges in December, already is serving a sentence of 22-1/2 years in a Minnesota prison for Floyd’s murder after a trial in state court last year. The federal sentence will run concurrently and will see Chauvin moved to a federal prison.
US District Judge Paul Magnuson announced the sentence in St. Paul, Minnesota, saying he was crediting Chauvin for seven months already served in state prison, removing those from the 21-year federal sentence. His federal prison sentence is due to be followed by five years of supervised release.
The judge called Chauvin’s actions offensive and unconscionable, according to notes shared with media outlets from a reporter in one of the courtroom’s limited seats.

According to a new report from the Washington Examiner, the Biden administration paid a for-profit company $177 million to begin housing more than 1,000 migrant children in a vacant Hebrew school in North Carolina, closing the deal without a public bidding process required by law.
The Washington Examiner obtained government contract documents that show the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) plans to house the children at a vacant Hebrew school, which The Gateway Pundit previously reported.
This latest deal was made behind closed doors with New York-based Deployed Resources rather than through the usual public solicitation process.
The Department of the Interior (DOI) submitted a justification notice on behalf of HHS, outlining why it awarded the massive contract without opening the process to others. The notice was obtained by the Washington Examiner this week.
“Based on market research and a review of past contract actions, Deployed Resources has been identified as the best provider for this urgent and compelling requirement,” the DOI notice states.

The Palestinian Authority (PA) has let it be known that its 86-year old leader, Mahmoud Abbas, is prepared to talk to Israel’s caretaker Prime Minister, Yair Lapid, about a “diplomatic horizon” for the Palestinians. No doubt this is prompted by the planned visit of US President Joe Biden to Israel and the PA next week.
That would be a terrible idea.
Start with the fact that Abbas is in poor health, and the wolves are already gathering to pick the bones of his fat carcass (the PA is a money machine for those who are “connected.” Yasser Arafat died with a net worth of more than $4 billion, and Abbas is said to have at least $100 million salted away). There is no reason to think that the dictator who follows will have any reason to live up to any promises Abbas makes. Not that the PA has ever kept any of its promises, starting with the ones made by Arafat in 1993, especially the one about “fighting terrorism:” rather than opposing it, Arafat planned, ordered, and paid for it. As far as we know Abbas has only encouraged terrorism, and paid the salaries of the perpetrators after the fact.
But the main problem with talking to the PA is that there is no coincidence of interests between Israel and the PA. If we draw Venn diagrams of the minimum demands made by the PA and the maximum concessions that Israel could afford to make (and vice versa), the intersections will be empty. There is no “creative” way to solve this problem.

The US is making plans for a direct war against Russia and its ally Belarus, the head of Belarusian military intelligence warned on Thursday. The scenario is becoming more likely as the proxy war in Ukraine and other ways to hurt the two nations are failing, he claimed.
“The territory of Poland as well as the Baltic states is being turned into a staging ground, from which the US plans to unleash a new bloody conflict in Europe, targeting the Russian Federation and its allies,” Major General Ruslan Kosygin said.
He cited NATO training troops for rapid deployment in Eastern Europe and the development of anti-ballistic missile systems in the region as evidence of the looming crisis. Further proof, he claimed, is the “dangerous attempts by some Polish politicians to initiate a return of so-called historically Polish regions” in western Ukraine and Belarus.
The general said his agency believed that Western nations were preparing for an attack against Belarus and Russia under the guise of deterring Russia from launching an invasion, which is how NATO justifies its military build up in Eastern Europe. Belarus “does not favor” the scenario of a war, but will act decisively, if it comes true, Kosygin said.
He said an escalation was becoming increasingly possible because “the West is coming to the realization that traditional methods of hybrid aggression against Russia and Belarus are not producing the results it wants.”

Opposition leader Geert Wilders released a bombshell letter showing the globalist Dutch government wants to use expropriated agricultural land for asylum centers.
Around 40,000 Dutch farmer paralyzed traffic in the Netherlands and blocked around 20 food distribution centers over the weekend with trucks and tractors. Yesterday the protests reached Dam Square in Amsterdam and the seat of government in The Hague. The airport in Groningen was blockaded by demonstrators on Wednesday, German farmers joined the protests in Heerenberg near the Dutch-German border.
In an incident near the blockaded food distribution center at Heerenveen in Friesland, police officers shot at 16-year-old Jouke’s tractor, which was already turning away from the roadblock, missing the boy’s head by an inch (Gateway Pundit reported). Jouke and two other protestors were arrested on suspicion of “attempted manslaughter” after which an angry crowd gathered in front of the police station in Leeuwarden. All three have now been released without charges.
A farmer in Leeuwarden told Canadian journalist Keean Bexte that the Rutte government had “created a climate where the police think they can shoot.” Dutch farmers are being dispossessed and committing suicide, the protester said, while China, for example, fails to meet any environmental regulations.

Imagine it is early on the morning of November 11, 1918. You are a French soldier or perhaps a German soldier. The armistice to end the Great War is about to go into effect that day at eleven in the morning.
You are not in tune with the new reality.
You are in tune with the narrative that was fed to you and everyone around you for four long years. You are in tune with the narrative fed to you and which, by this point, has no basis in reality.
This is what you do as a result — with less than 12 hours left before the cease fire, you charge an enemy position, because that has been worked into your propaganda-addled mind.
Is it out of fear you act? Is it out of duty? Is it out of pride? Is it out of honor? Is it out of love of country or community or family or homeland? Is it out of suicidal ideation that you act? Is it out of disinterest in returning to reality as you once knew it — a reality where such a war does not exist and in which you need to do the hard work of giving your life structure, focus, and meaning?
I have no idea.
But I know this much, the foundation of such feelings in such a moment are not able to be based on truth, precisely because of your propaganda-addled mind. The foundation is weak and propaganda can be so effective at decaying the foundation.
So you charge the enemy position and die for a cause that had no truth to it and was only still upheld by the most vacuous members of society.
You die a pointless death.

Back in the day we were a strong proponent of an aggressive build-up of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). That’s because in the late 1970s the winning argument in Washington for all manner of insidious energy policy interventions—-synfuels subsidies, oil and gas price and allocation controls, mandatory energy efficiency standards, electrical grid mandates to buy wind/solar etc—was that a major supply interruption from the Persian Gulf would send the US economy reeling and seriously threaten national security.
So all of these interventions were essentially aimed at energy autarky-—using high cost stuff made at home including ethanol from corn, petroleum products distilled from coal, energy efficient washer-dryers and much more. Of course, all of these interventions over-rode the free market’s search for least cost supplies, including imported petroleum, but that was waved aside in the name of “energy security”.
We differed profoundly. Our contention was that efficient energy supplies and energy security were wholly different matters, and that the latter did not require sacrificing domestic prosperity and rising living standards on the alter of high cost energy autarky (independence).
Instead, the right strategy was two-fold:
- First, let the free market find the least-cost solution to the nation’s energy requirements, regardless of where those supplies were sourced;
- Second, treat “energy security” like all matters of national security—as a fiscal investment. In this case that meant buying crude oil to store in vast salt caverns, where it would be available for market-calming release in the event of a major worldwide crude oil supply outage.
As it happened, our argument prevailed. During the early years of the Reagan Administration we dismantled nearly the entire apparatus of Jimmy Carter’s energy autarky schemes—including most alternative energy subsidies, price and allocation controls and wackadoo measures like energy efficiency standards for toasters.
