Why Israeli firebrand Itamar Ben-Gvir is soaring in polls, and why the left calls him a racist ALEX TRAIMAN
Speaking to JNS, the controversial right-wing Israeli politician said, “Our Tanach [Bible] teaches us that we are from here, we have come back to our land. I am not a racist, I do not hate Arabs, I hate terrorists.”
The rise of Itamar Ben-Gvir is one of the major storylines of Israel’s fifth election cycle in little more than three years. The political firebrand from the right flank of Israel’s political spectrum is soaring in popularity, with polls showing his Religious Zionist bloc garnering as many as 14 of the Knesset’s 120 seats.
That would likely make the Religious Zionist Party the third-largest in the Knesset (behind Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud and Yair Lapid’s Yesh Atid) and larger than the National Unity Party led by current Defense Minister and former Netanyahu challenger Benny Gantz. At 14 seats, Religious Zionist would be twice as large as the former Yamina Party was when its leader, Naftali Bennett, emerged as prime minister in an unlikely alignment after the previous election last year.
The bloc is a combination of three relatively small right-wing parties. The parties banded together to run in a technical bloc, to ensure that none of the three would fall below the 3.25 percent vote threshold for entering the parliament. The Religious Zionist bloc is led by former Minister of Transportation and longtime parliamentarian Bezalel Smotrich. Several other well-respected members of Knesset including Simcha Rothman and Orit Strock sit high on the candidates list. The list has four women in its top 20 positions.
Israel’s staunchly nationalist right-wing parties rarely surge to such high parliamentary numbers. But Ben-Gvir, No. 2 on the Religious Zionist list and head of the small Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Strength) faction, is capturing the populist wave in the current election campaign, in large part because Israel’s left-wing media have turned him into the top story. Ben-Gvir has become a regular guest on Israel’s political news programming.
WHO’S AFRAID OF ITAMAR BEN-GVIR? by David Israel
First, a necessary disclosure: on November 1 this year, after much deliberation, I intend to vote for Otzma Yehudit Party chairman Itamar Ben-Gvir and his partner, Religious Zionism Party chairman Bezalel Smotrich.
As a liberal Orthodox Jew, I am aware that their platform is not a perfect match for my views, and there are even some positions I disagree with (just as I disagree with some of the positions of all the other lists), yet I will vote for them because I see them as great reformers of the Zionist enterprise.
Itamar Ben-Gvir is known as a vehement advocate of the rule of law everywhere in Israel, including in Jewish and Arab communities. He is also well known to be a strong advocate of an iron-fist policy against terrorists, including the deportation of terrorists, as well as of Knesset members who deny Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state.
But did you know that Ben-Gvir is a successful civil rights attorney? That he advocates for freedom of worship in Israel? That he has expressed warmth and empathy for homosexuals?
I’ll explain.
The Jerusalem Post’s editor-in-Chief, Yaakov Katz, warned a week ago: “A government in which the leader is focused on evading trial and top ministers are messianic, anti-Arab, anti-progressive Jews and anti-LGBTQ, anti-women and anti-religious freedom is a government that will not advance Israel.”
Katz is absolutely right. Yet at the same time, every single part of this paragraph is false and misleading. But it’s thanks to Katz that I can clear up these mistaken notions, one by one. Here goes:

The Israeli Ministry of Health entered into a contract with Pfizer over COVID-19 vaccines that turned Israel into an agent of a commercial pharmaceutical company — and forced the state to give up its sovereign responsibility to protect the well-being of its citizens.

A bit of background: at the end of 2020, Israel was facing an empty trough. None of the aggressive measures taken by Israel against COVID-19 — lockdowns, social distancing, school closures and attempts to cut off the chain of infection by means of quarantine — had succeeded in preventing the spread of the virus.
In addition, then Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced the threat of the disbanding of his government and the replacement of his leadership in the elections. All this was overshadowed by indictments pending against him.
Netanyahu decided to bet on Pfizer’s vaccine as the strategy that could potentially allow him to solve the COVID-19 problem, with the added benefit of substantial political gain.
In this way, in exchange for the privilege to be the first country in the world to roll out the vaccine among its population, Israel entered into two agreements with Pfizer: a production and supply agreement that was not made public at all; and “The Real World Epidemiological Evidence Collaboration Agreement,” which is discussed in this article.
“The Real World Epidemiological Evidence Collaboration Agreement” was signed on Jan. 6, 2021. Its declared purpose was to collect and analyze epidemiological data arising from the vaccination of the population in Israel, and to determine if herd immunity would be achieved as a result of the vaccine.
In the framework of this agreement, research outcome measures were defined.
Outcome measures did not include safety. All outcome measures explicitly defined in the agreement were efficacy outcomes, such as the number of those infected with COVID-19, the number of hospitalizations with COVID-19 and death from COVID, or indices on the speed of the vaccine rollout in Israel such as the number of vaccinated by age and demographic characteristics.
None of the outcome measures that were explicitly agreed upon in advance were safety outcomes, such as overall mortality, hospitalizations from any cause or the known side effects of vaccines, whatever they may be.

Andrew Weissmann has been intimately involved in some of the biggest corruption scandals in US history. Weissmann was involved in FBI activities with the mob in New York in the 1990s. An Open Letter to Yeshiva University Chananya Weissman
On October 24th I received a letter that was sent to the wider community by Yeshiva University and signed by Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman, Rabbi Hershel Schachter, Ira Mitzner, and Lance Hirt (a shortened version appears here). These four individuals are the President of Yeshiva University, the most prominent Rosh Yeshiva at YU and RIETS, and the Chairman of the Board at YU and RIETS, respectively. This letter was followed with a lengthy FAQ and additional information regarding YU’s court battle with Pride Alliance activists.
It is fair to say that this expresses the official positions of the institution.
Unfortunately, the material you sent was little more than a lengthy word salad – well over 4000 words. For all that you wrote, you managed to say very little, and left readers with many more questions than answers. Although my past association with YU is no longer a source of pride (no pun intended), I remain an alumnus and concerned member of the community. As such, I hope you will address my concerns, which are shared by many who still hold Yeshiva University in high esteem.

“Swatting” is the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.
This is a dangerous prank used by the American left against their political opponents. It is very dangerous because it could lead to a violent confrontation if the police are not aware of the situation.
