COMMENTARY / OPINION

Why Thomas Massie Is the Only Member of Congress to Get the Israel-Hamas War Right    JD RUCKER

Being opposed to sending troops or aid to Israel does not mean someone supports Hamas.

OCT 26, 2023 – The vast majority of Republicans and most Democrats support Israel in their plight against Hamas. The images and videos that emerged on and after October 7 sparked massive outrage in the western world. And despite the loud minority that continues to hold protests across the nation, most Americans would like to see Hamas stifled one way or another.

Some of us just don’t want to get involved.

Apparently, Congress feels differently. In a massively one-sided vote, the House passed a resolution backing Israel and condemning Hamas. Only the antisemitic “Squad” and Massie voted against it. But before anyone starts throwing Massie in with the likes of Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, it’s important to understand why Massie was opposed to this resolution.

It’s not that he doesn’t support Israel. He does. It’s not that he’s trying to justify what Hamas did and continues to do. His concerns rest solely in the language of the resolution which paves the way for direct U.S. military involvement and ongoing “aid” to Israel.

As he posted on Twitter:

I condemn the barbaric attack on Israel and I affirm Israel’s right to defend itself.

However, I will not be voting for House Resolution 771 today because:

1) It calls for sanctions on a sovereign country. Sanctions are a prelude to war and hurt the citizens of the country more than the government of the country that’s being sanctioned. And ultimately, sanctions create laws that will be used to prosecute American citizens (who engage in trade), not citizens of the sanctioned country. In short, sanctions do not achieve their stated purposes but do breed resentment of our country abroad.

2) It asserts the necessity of foreign aid commitments which I have voted against. Our country is going bankrupt and we can’t afford to borrow money to send overseas, yet this resolution states that we should.

3) It contains an open-ended promise of military support that is so broad that it could be interpreted to commit US soldiers to the conflict. US troops should not be engaged in this conflict.

4) It tends to broaden the conflict to other countries when it would be better to keep the war contained geographically.

Here’s a link to the text of the resolution, which contains some statements I do support and some statements I cannot support.

[Ed.:  I agree with JD.]

Blood Libel against Jews: Back with a Vengeance  by Alan M. Dershowitz
October 25, 2023 at 5:00 am

  • This conflict is not about occupation or settlements. The chants of anti-Israel protesters, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” means that the entire area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea — all of Israel — must be free of Jews.
  • The truth does not matter to bigots.

A document from the end of the 15th century features an illustration of a bearded Jew extracting the blood of a Christian child. The adjoining text explains that Jewish law requires that Passover matzoh be baked with the blood of Christian children.

Such documents were widely circulated through Europe during the Easter season and led to frequent pogroms — murder, rape, and destruction — against Jewish children, women and men in revenge for allegedly killing Christian children for their blood to make matzoh.

There was never any actual evidence of such cannibalism. In fact, Jewish law explicitly prohibits the consumption of any blood or its use in cooking.

The total lack of evidence, however, did not matter to those who were taught and believed what has come to be known as the “blood libel.” Despite all the evidence to the contrary, many believed that this falsehood was “true.”

This blood libel persisted throughout Europe into the early 20th century. Jews were put on trial and executed for supposedly killing Christian children for their blood.

Dear Woke Western relativists, after the Jews Hamas is coming for you   Giulio Meotti

In these terrible hours, the Jews were the first to be sacrificed, but the flaccid Europe that refuses to condemn Hamas is next.  Opinion.

Oct 25, 2023, 8:12 AM (GMT+3) – We truly live in a strange West.

Take the president of the Scottish Students’ Union. She seemed to understand Hamas’ massacres. Two days earlier, she accused Labor leader Keir Starmer of being “complicit in the death of… trans people” for saying that biology matters when it comes to women. Understood? A politician with a natural view of femininity is a criminal, but a terrorist who kills Israeli boys and girls at a music festival must be understood.

They ask for “safe spaces” for gender, queer, LGBT, blacks etc.. but they don’t find it scandalous to massacre Israelis. Hamas has been bombing Tel Aviv for two weeks and the rights champions are chanting “Free Palestine”.

Who knows if Gianni Vattimo – the Italian homosexual philosopher who said he wanted to “shoot those Zionist bastards” – has ever thought about what they would do to him in Gaza.

Maybe they drank too much whiskey in Scotland. Let’s move then to Spain, where three female ministers of the left-wing government have just asked to arrest…Benjamin Netanyahu.

In Barcelona, as in other European and American cities, there are demonstrations with rainbow flags in support of Hamas and the killing of innocent Jews.

Judith Butler, the popess of gender theory, has characterized Hamas and Hezbollah as a “resistance movement”.

Arab protests against the Balfour Declaration and Jewish immigration, May 1921   Dr. Alex Grobman

The British response to the pogroms encouraged the oppressors, rewarded violence, and penalized the victims – just like in Russia. Op-ed.

May 7, 2021, 9:22 AM (GMT+3) – When Arabs protested the Balfour Declaration in 1921, Sir Herbert Samuel, the Jewish first High Commissioner in Palestine, the name given to the area by the Roman conquerors of Judea, responded that Jews were expected to immigrate to Palestine within certain fixed limits “to help with their resources and efforts to develop the country, to the advantage of all its inhabitants.” [1]

Jewish immigration, Winston Churchill assured them, was being monitored regarding the numbers and character of the people. The country was “greatly under-populated” and undeveloped, which allowed for more people to build a life there. The work already accomplished by the Jews during the last 20 to 30 years could not be “brutally and rudely overturned by fanatical attacks of the Arab population” launched against Jews in Jaffa, Rehovot, Petach Tikva and other Jewish areas in May 1921. [2]

Despite its initial pro-Zionist orientation, the British government gradually “whittled down” the Balfour Declaration, reflecting the hostility towards Zionism of many in the government. By 1921, immigration had practically ceased, the “bulk” of the British officers in Palestine were not sympathetic to Zionism, and the Zionists were not receiving the concessions needed to establish a national Jewish homeland.

Public hostility in Britain, Colonel Richard Meinertzhagen, General Allenby’s Chief Political Officer and later involved in the creation of the British Mandate, thought, was a result of the failure to understand the purpose of Zionism, fear of its potential financial cost and a general antisemitic British temperament that quickly translated into anti-Zionism.[3]

To pressure the British to end Jewish immigration, anti-Zionist riots broke out in Mandatory Palestine in 1920-1921, killing several Jews. In April 1920, during a religious festival (al-Nabi Musa) in Jerusalem, many Arabs, led by Al-Hajj Amin al-Husayni, the Mufti of Jerusalem, attacked Jews in the Old City.

On May 1, 1921, there was a riot in Jaffa, after which the Arabs attacked Jews in Petah Tikvah and Hadera, pillaging and destroying a significant amount of property. The disturbances, which shocked the Jews and the British, lasted several days and demonstrated the Arabs’ fierce opposition to continued Jewish immigration into the country, [4] and their insistence on remaining part of Syria. [5]

In view of the intensity of the attacks during which 88 people were killed and 238 injured, Sir Herbert Samuel [6] brought in the army to quell the disturbances. Many were arrested and heavy fines were levied against Arab villages involved in the riots. However, he also sought to ease Arab hostility and insisted that the Zionists demonstrate no ill-will toward the Arabs.

We Forgot   by Victor Rosenthal

October 25, 2023You shall remember what Amalek did to you on the way, when you went out of Egypt, how he happened upon you on the way and cut off all the stragglers at your rear, when you were faint and weary, and he did not fear God.

It will be, when the Lord your God grants you respite from all your enemies around in the land which the Lord, your God, gives to you as an inheritance to possess, that you shall obliterate the remembrance of Amalek from beneath the heavens. You shall not forget! — Dvarim 25:17-19

I have heard this read in the synagogue numerous times, and taken part in discussions of the meaning of this mitzvah (commandment). But I did not truly understand it until Simchat Torah of this year.

A mitzvah can always be understood in relation to actions. The well-known injunction to “love thy neighbor” in Lev. 18:19 appears in context as “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.” It does not require me to have a warm feeling toward the residents of the apartment next to mine. Rather, it orders me to avoid feuding with other Jews (not always an easy thing).

The commandment to remember Amalek does not mean to produce in myself a certain state of mind, similar to what I aspire to when my wife tells me to remember to bring home a carton of milk. That would be impossible anyway, because I wasn’t there in the desert when Amalek first did its dirty deeds. How can I remember what I didn’t experience? So what does “remember” mean here?

What I realized on Simchat Torah was that it means that we must not only keep in mind the evil that Amalek intends, but we must act on that awareness. It means that we must not let our guard down, we must take positive actions to prepare for Amalek’s viciousness. Only after we have achieved our independence in the land of Israel and fully defeated all of our enemies, can we stand down from our condition of high alert. Only when Amalek is finally obliterated will it be safe to obliterate our memory of it.

2 Billion Will Die in New War Cycle – Charles Nenner   By Greg HunterUSAWatchdog.com

October 24, 2023 – Renowned geopolitical and financial cycle expert Charles Nenner has been warning a once every 120-year war cycle is coming, and with hostilities in the Middle East, it is clearly here.  This cycle is for big wars such as WWI and WWII.  These two wars were part of one big war cycle according to Nenner, and history is now repeating.  Keep in mind, this war cycle comes with many countries in possession of nuclear arsenals.  Nenner explains, “If you do cycles on war games and war cycles, you can calculate how many people are going to die in such a war.  We discussed this in the past, and it now looks ugly.  We are talking about a lot of people.  There are so many things bad going on in the world, so I would like to not to tell you the number.”

Nenner has said this war cycle will top all other war cycles in body counts.  Nenner predicts, “This war cycle is going to be worse than World War II.  So, the question is what do we do and where do we go?  A lot of my clients are not interested in ‘how do I make money,’ but where should we go.  So, I am studying where are the best places to go.  This is what I am trying to find out, and I have been very busy with this.”

Back to the death toll that Nenner knows is coming.  So, I ask again, how many people will die in the current war cycle?  Nenner blurts out, “It could be a quarter of the population of the world.”  That’s roughly 2 billion people that could be killed in the current war cycle.  Nenner goes on to say, “This may not be in the next war because this is going to continue for many years.  It could be in the war after this.  What I see now is the Chinese going to the Middle East and the United States helping Israel because if they don’t do that, nobody would trust the United States anymore.  I guess the Chinese are going to watch how tough the United States is going to be because, otherwise, they take over Tiawan just like that.  They may still do it because everybody is busy with Ukraine and Israel. . . .  The U.S. is going to have to prove themselves, otherwise, they will be laughed off the world.”

Nenner also sees a war cycle coming to America through the Southern U.S. border.  America will be attacked like never before in this war cycle.  Nenner says, “There will be terror attacks in the U.S. and maybe much more because I don’t know how many of them are in there already.  They https://usawatchdog.com/2-billion-will-die-in-new-war-cycle-charles-nenner/ are catching Iranians on a terror list.  How did Iranians get to Mexico?”

Ceasefire advocates are Hamas’s useful idiots   JONATHAN S. TOBIN

Those opposing a Gaza ground invasion aimed at the terrorist group’s destruction cite humanitarian concerns. Such appeals will only preserve a criminal regime.

(October 23, 2023 / JNS) – It’s been more than two weeks since the atrocities of Oct. 7 shocked the world with the deliberate cruelty and barbarism exhibited by Hamas terrorists as they conducted what has been aptly described as pogroms inside Israel. The death toll in the largest mass slaughter of Jews—1,400 in a single day—since the Holocaust continues to rise as more bodies are discovered and identified. Added to that are those victims yet unaccounted for, in addition to the more than 4,000 wounded and as many as 200 others dragged captive into the Gaza Strip.

But for most of the world, the narrative about this conflict has already flipped. The Israel Defense Forces continues airstrikes on Hamas targets inside Gaza. The focus of most of the discussion about the conflict is now on the plight of Palestinian civilians and how—in the words of New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof—a desire for revenge and futile quest for Israeli safety had led to a campaign to “kill Gazan children.”  [Emphasis added]

[Ed.: Nicholas Kristoff is right!  How else are we going to make our matza?]

Refusing to Bite the Bullet:   by Martin Sherman

Yossi Kuperwasser wrote How Israel Can Solve Its Gaza Problem in Middle East Quarterly.

Martin Sherman takes issue with him.

The only way for Israel to determine how Gaza is ruled—and by whom—is to rule it itself.

Ever since the ill-considered and ill-fated unilateral abandonment of the Gaza Strip by Israel in August 2005—euphemistically dubbed the “disengagement”—Jerusalem has found itself embroiled in a seemingly interminable circle of violence, which the disengagement was supposed to prevent.

But, haplessly moored to the failed notion of eventual Palestinian-Arab self-governance in Gaza, the Israeli establishment has found itself hopelessly mired in a morass of strategic futility. Indeed, shortly after the egregious evacuation of Gaza, the luckless enclave fell to the control of the Islamist terror group Hamas. Whenever Hamas feels strong enough to attack Israel, it launches missile and mortar bombardments at Israeli civilian centers—with ever-improving and ever-increasing range.

The standard, almost knee-jerk, response from Jerusalem, whenever it feels compelled to respond to Palestinian-Arab aggression, is to inflict large-scale damage in Gaza, mostly, but not exclusively, from the air, until it deems that “deterrence was restored.”

This, of course, is a major misuse of the term deterrence, which should refer to an action designed to break the will of an adversary to engage in future aggression—as in the case of Germany and Japan in World War II. To the contrary, after brief interbellum respites, Hamas and its other more radical Islamist cronies emerge spoiling for a fight with its political standing and military capacities typically undiminished—indeed, even enhanced. For Hamas, the devastation inflicted is little more than the “cost of doing business.”

So, despite the depressingly predictable cycle of fighting, the Israeli defense establishment, even with its impressive tactical and technical ingenuity, persists with its strategic sclerosis, never daring to break the mold and raise the possibility of alternative strategic approaches.

WAYNE ROOT: Thank you Bobby Kennedy. How RFK Jr. Just Helped Trump Win the 2024 Election.   By Wayne Allyn Root

Oct. 24, 2023 11:40 am – Is RFK Jr. Trump’s “Secret Weapon” in 2024?

I’ve argued for many months now that RFK Jr is right about three things- the Covid vaccine, the funding of the Ukraine war, and the Deep State. I like him. He’s a good guy- for a Democrat. He has integrity- for a Democrat.

Most importantly, he’s not your typical Democrat- meaning he’s not a communist traitor. He doesn’t want to destroy America. And that’s why the Democrat leadership hates him. RFK Jr. has been shunned by his own party. He’s a pariah in the party of radical America-hating Marxists like Obama, Biden, Kamala, Hillary, Pelosi, Kerry and George Soros.

So RFK Jr. is a relatively good guy…for a Democrat.

Because RFK is so right about the dangerous and deadly Covid vaccine, I’ve pitched him on my national TV and radio shows as the ideal “Special Prosecutor” for President Trump to appoint to investigate Big Pharma and the Covid vaccine.

Let’s find out, once and for all, the truth about the Covid vaccines. Did they save lives? Or did they kill millions? Are they a scam? Did Big Pharma bribe the media and the politicians? Was massive censorship and propaganda used by our own government to cover-up the truth? Inquiring minds want to know.

Afterall, the CDC just reported that only 2% of Americans have taken the new Covid booster shot. That means 98% of Americans have serious questions about the safety and effectiveness of the Covid vaccine.

If President Trump, once he’s re-elected in 2024, announces he’d name Bobby Kennedy Jr. to head up that Big Pharma/vaccine investigation, I believe Trump would gain a lot of support. And make his base very happy!

But I’ve also warned on many occasions, RFK Jr. should never be Trump’s Vice President.

Many conservative hosts naively suggested and recommended that. I’ve said again and again, that should never be an option.

Why? Because Bobby is still a proud Kennedy Democrat. He’s not a communist traitor. He doesn’t hate America. But he is in the mode of Ted Kennedy, George McGovern, Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale. Meaning he’s a traditional, old-school liberal Democrat.

Which means tax, spend and regulate the economy to death. All those old Democrat policies that damage the US economy…put businesses out of business…kill jobs…and explode the national debt. I don’t know about you, but I want no part of that.

Did you hear the latest news? I told you so. Like a typical, old-school, bleeding-heart, Jimmy Carter-like Democrat, RFK Jr. just announced his support of REPARATIONS.

Yes, those reparations.  [Emphasis added]

George Floyd’s Death – Response to Comments   PIERRE KORY, MD, MPA

Many commenters to my last post offered up alternative explanations to my conclusion as to the cause of Mr. Floyd’s death. Let’s go through them.

OCT 24, 2023 – In my previous post on the George Floyd case, I presented both a truncated version of the reasoning and evidence supporting my legal expert opinion report as well as the official eleven-page legal, written testimony that I submitted to the lawyers who retained me in his civil case.

Based on the number and content of comments to my post, I discovered several areas which continue to lead to confusion and questions and alternative hypotheses. Some were a surprise to me and some were not. For instance, it is unsurprising that the case of Mr. Floyd continues to elicit strong emotions and strong beliefs and that the shortened version of my official testimony was insufficient (few read the longer version and many appear to have skimmed or superficially thought through the shortened version).

Although I do not really want to delve into the case of Mr. Floyd further because I do not believe that countering data can change belief systems (nor do we need to flame more emotions or division/polarization). However, I will make a final attempt to address the data underpinning alternative conclusions to mine. Plus, many of us “medical dissidents” in Covid have been crying out with authorities for public debates of the available evidence underlying early treatments, vaccines, lockdowns, and masks. None were granted.

So, although not a “true” debate, what I am doing is consistent with what academics do to critique and counter scientific papers in journals – they send their critique as a “Letter to the Editor” of the journal who published the paper, and the authors are required to offer a defense of their data, analysis, and conclusions in regards to the specific critique offered.

The Unholy Alliance Between George Soros and Pope Francis   By George Neumayr

October 23, 2023 – The election of a liberal Jesuit to the papacy thrilled Democrats in the United States, whose unholy alliance with the Catholic left goes back many decades. Barack Obama, one of the pope’s most prominent supporters, has long been a beneficiary of that alliance. The faculty at Jesuit Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., ranked as one of the top donors to his campaign.

In a grim irony, Obama, whose presidency substantially eroded religious freedom in America, rose to power not in spite of the Catholic Church but because of it. The archdiocese of Chicago helped bankroll his radicalism in the 1980s. As he recounts in his memoirs, he began his work as a community organizer in the rectory rooms of Holy Rosary parish on Chicago’s South Side. The Alinskyite organization for which he worked — the Developing Communities Project — received tens of thousands of dollars from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.

Obama was close to the late Chicago Cardinal Joseph Bernardin. A proponent of the “Seamless Garment” movement within the Catholic Church in the 1980s, a movement that downplayed abortion and emphasized political liberalism, Bernardin was drawn to the socialism and relativism of the liberal elite. He was so “gay-friendly” that he requested that the “Windy City Gay Chorus” perform at his funeral. He embodied Obama’s conception of a “good” bishop and one can see in his admixture of left-wing politics and relativistic nonjudgmental theology a foreshadowing of the rise of Pope Francis.

The US Empire’s PR Crisis in Gaza   By Caitlin Johnstone

October 23, 2023 – The US-centralized empire is a giant network of allies, partners and assets spanning the entire globe. Many of the nations in this network, such as Israel, have strong ideologies and values systems that the empire must cooperate with to obtain their loyalty. But the empire itself has no ideology or values — it values nothing but planetary domination. The empire’s motives are no more ideological than the motives of a mugger are ideological.

So the empire has no ideology, but it is held together by cooperation with individual governments who do. The problem this creates is that sometimes the ideologies of those states cause them to do things that go against the interests of the empire as a whole. Israel can just up and decide to commit a genocidal massacre in front of everyone. Saudi Arabia can decide it’s going to dismember a Washington Post reporter with a bone saw. Proxies in Ukraine can keep saying Nazi things and sporting Nazi insignia in public. They do these things because unlike the top brass in the imperial power structure they are guided by ideology, with no regard for the need to preserve the empire’s image as a “rules-based international order”.

This often creates a PR crisis for the empire, because the public will cease consenting to the network of alliances, partners and assets if it becomes sufficiently aware of the depravity needed to hold it all together. This is typically easy to resolve because the US empire has the most sophisticated propaganda machine in the history of civilization, but that propaganda machine is operated by individuals — individuals who may have learned about Palestinian rights at university, or who were disgusted about the way their employer ran cover for Israel’s murder of Shireen Abu Akleh only to find out Israel did it and was lying. So they don’t always play along with the imperial machine in their reporting, thereby exacerbating the empire’s PR crisis.

Rothbard, Milei and the New Right in Argentina   By Fernando Chiocca

October 23, 2023 – Since I recognized almost twenty years ago that no person or institution has the right to initiate aggression, now is the first time I can tell a normie what my political stance is without them having no clue what I am talking about. Now I can say that I am an anarchocapitalist without causing much surprise, as a large part of the public now has some idea of what this term means.

This is thanks to the fascinating electoral success of Javier Milei, an anarchocapitalist who has a chance of becoming the next president of Argentina in tomorrow’s presidential election. Milei has five mastiff dogs that he calls “four-legged children” and named one of them Murray, in honor of the economist Murray Rothbard, a great inspiration of his. Rothbard, a dean of the Austrian school of economics, is also the father of modern libertarianism, which he called anarchocapitalism. We anarchocapitalists are aware that any form of state is criminal, and any and all services it provides can and must be provided by the free market. Rothbard provided the ethical and economic justifications for anarchocapitalism, refuting all myths used to legitimize the existence of the state.

Nevertheless, in addition to providing the framework of anarchocapitalism, Rothbard also laid out a strategy describing how only someone like Milei could break down the barriers of respectable (social democratic) political discourse imposed on us by the Marxist Left and reemerge a libertarian Right political force. Rothbard refers to the old American Right, which in the first half of the twentieth century was opposed to the socialist programs implemented in the US and its foreign wars and was “for a restoration of the liberty of the old republic, of a government strictly limited to the defense of the rights of private property.” It was not a revolutionary Right. In fact, the revolution had already happened with the New Deal, and the revolution had been a socialist one. In the same way, Peronism was a socialist revolution that in eighty years transformed Argentina, which was a free country and one of the richest in the world, into a poor country. This means that a conservative stance serves to preserve socialism, while socialism continues to advance when socialists are in power. Therefore, as libertarian novelist Garet Garrett said, “The revolution was, and therefore nothing less than a counterrevolution is needed to take the country back. Behold then, not a ‘conservative,’ but a radical Right.” Agustín Laje, author, political scientist, and ally of Milei who has strived to understand and explain the new global Right, agrees:

This New Right has a revolutionary ethos, as opposed to a left that is beginning to embrace a conservative ethos. I know this might sound odd, but in what sense do I say it? If we take “conservative” as that which wants to preserve a status quo, the left is the one who today want to preserve a status quo in Argentina, while the right is trying to destroy this status quo.

All Wars Are Bankers Wars  [Video 43:33]   By Dr. Joseph Mercola

October 23, 2023 – The video above features a 2013 documentary, “All Wars Are Bankers Wars,” written and narrated by Michael Rivero,1 founder of whatreallyhappened.com. As explained by Rivero, all wars can be traced back to the private central bankers.

“The more you study this, the more you’ll realize that ALL wars are wars for the private central bankers,” he says. American soldiers have fought and died in wars initiated for no other purpose than to force private central banking on nations that didn’t want them.

Usury — The Birth of Money From Money

The philosopher Aristotle (384-322 BC) once said:

“The most hated sort [of moneymaking], and with the greatest reason, is usury, which makes a gain out of money itself, and not from the natural use of it. For money was intended to be used in exchange, but not to increase at interest.

And this term ‘usury,’ which means the birth of money from money, is applied to the breeding of money, because the offspring resembles the parent. Wherefore of all modes of making money this is the most unnatural.”

What Aristotle described is the business model of all central banks. They make money out of thin air by lending money at interest, and in the process, they drain a nation of its wealth. The first bankers war example illustrated in the film is that of the American Revolution, fought between 1775 and 1783.

The GOP is at War with Its Base   by Jeff Crouere

(Oct. 22, 2023) — For many years, the leadership of the Republican Party has been at war with the grassroots activists who work tirelessly on its behalf. This division has been apparent ever since Donald Trump descended the escalator in 2015 and announced his presidential campaign.

The party establishment worked overtime to deny the nomination to Trump, yet the Republican voters overwhelmingly supported him. The resentment toward Trump and his supporters continued during his presidency and still exists today.

Sadly, there is little chance this divide will be bridged anytime soon. The latest example occurred last week as congressional Republicans were attempting to elect a House Speaker.

The overwhelming favorite of the party’s base was U.S. Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH). He was the co-founder of the House Freedom Caucus and has served admirably as the House Judiciary Committee Chairman. His history as a stalwart conservative earned the trust of grassroots Republicans.

Unfortunately, a contingent of moderate Republicans were steadfast in opposing Jordan. Despite their office phone lines burning up with calls from Republicans throughout the country, these obstinate opponents of Jordan refused to budge. By the third and final vote, 25 House Republicans opposed Jordan.

This group includes the type of establishment Republicans who are steadfastly opposed to the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement. According to Christopher Bedford, Executive Editor of CommonSenseSociety.org, these Republicans “would rather the speakership remain vacant than elect Jordan; they would rather break Congress than elevate someone they’re not confident they can control. They believe money for Ukraine and other business-as-usual items are worth permanent institutional damage.”
