Our Unhappy Youth Anthony Esolen
Many young people appear to have fallen into the most antihuman way of life that any civilization has ever settled into.
February 22, 2024 – Young people, we are told, and we have eyes to see it, are unhappy. Those in the pharmaceutical industry are aware of the vein of gold that depression has opened up, with ordinary and unhappy people plying the pickax. That shouldn’t surprise any sensible Christian, who ought to know where some measure of earthly happiness is to be found, even for those who do not know Christ.
For all we have to do is to tweak the question a little, to see what the young are confronting. Instead of asking why they are unhappy, we might ask why they aren’t happy, which might in turn lead us to ask what they have to be happy about. That might reveal to us in all its drabness what appears to be the most antihuman way of life that any civilization has ever settled into: becalmed without rest, somber without sobriety, abstracted without thought, licentious without even the animal vigor of license; ever shouting, but without good cheer.
When I was a lonely young fellow, the outdoors was a comfort to me, even in the coldest days of winter, when I would go into the woods with my dog and tramp along the old mine trails, thinking, and here and there seeing the traces of deer or rabbits on the frozen snow. In the summer, though, everyone was outdoors all the time, to play baseball or many another game; and it is impossible not to forget what you think your troubles are when you are on the mound with two outs and a one-run lead. The action is good for the body, and the play is good for the soul.

Feb. 22, 2024 7:00 am – Vladimir Putin and Russia are facing withering Western criticism and threats following the death of a Russian political dissident, Alexey Nalvani, and the arrest of dual Russia/American citizen Ksenia Karelin, a ballerina. Silly Putin. He apparently has failed to grasp that all he has to do is declare these folks MAGA supporters and then he can do what he wants to them and the West will cheer him on.
Okay. Enough sarcasm. Let’s deal with the reality. In my opinion, Alexey Nalvani was considered the leading Russian political dissident by Western pundits and politicians, but at home he was a nobody. Hell, Marianne Williamson may have more support in the United States than Nalvani had in Russia. Nalvani’s only “political” message was to hurl accusations at Putin as a corrupt enabler of oligarchs. Nalvani offered no political vision. His social media accounts rarely delved into political philosophy nor did he offer a vision of something along the lines, Make Russia Great Again.
When Nalvani did take time to record his political views using a video platform, his message was shocking and disquieting. He described Muslims — all, not just some — as cockroaches that needed to be exterminated. Think about that for a moment and ask yourself, “What the hell are the Western politicians who are heaping praise on Nalvani thinking?” I thought all of these wokesters are supposed to be against racists. Yet, here they are mourning the death of an ultra-Russian nationalist who enthusiastically embraced the most vile racist beliefs. Not the first time that Joe Biden has lamented the passing of a racist — remember his remarks about the late Senator Robert Byrd, the former head of the Ku Klux Klan in West Virginia?
Take time to read Scott Ritter’s excellent piece describing the real Alexey Nalvani. You can find it here. Nalvani, in short, was a tool of Western intelligence. I do not know if he was witting or unwitting, but he served Western interests eager to see Russia dismantled and Putin destroyed.
As far as tiny dancer Ksenia Karelina is concerned, she is a law breaker. She donated $50 to the Ukrainian Army. So what? Why should that be a crime? So let’s explore that question from a Western perspective. Is it okay for Congresswoman Ilhan Omar to contribute money to ISIS? Would it be okay for a dual Israeli/Jordanian citizen to give dollars to Hamas? Of course not. Providing financial support to groups or persons who murder your own citizens is morally unjustified. But here is the big difference — Russia passed legislation and it was signed into law by Vladimir Putin prohibiting the provision of financial support to the Ukrainian military. Looks like the Russian judicial system actually believes in the principle of enforcing laws.
The United States no longer has any moral authority to lecture or hector foreign countries about persecuting political opponents. We now know that the CIA and the FBI, along with the Department of Justice, were weaponized to attack and try to destroy Donald Trump. He still faces the threat of being put in prison for challenging a fraudulent election. An election that was rife with outside interference. Only it was not the Russians nor the Chinese — it was the Deep State intelligence and law enforcement bureaucracy in the United States.
So far over 1,200 American citizens have been arrested and charged with crimes for the simple act of walking into the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. The Washington establishment continues to push the lie that these people attacked and bludgeoned Capitol Hill police. That is bullshit. The only ones who did any killing that day were the law enforcement personnel and none have been held to account.
Before the United States says one more word of condemnation about political oppression in Russia, it needs to get its own house in order and put an end to its relentless persecution of Donald Trump and his supporters. Otherwise, Uncle Sam should just shut up.

And the worst part of all: Obama’s still in charge. Obama is pulling all the strings. He’s the one calling the shots. He’s the ventriloquist, speaking for the wooden dummy puppet Joe Biden. Obama is the real President of the United States, back for his third term.
I warned and predicted from the first day Obama appeared on the scene that my old Columbia University classmate was a Manchurian candidate, a radical Marxist put in place by the Deep State and globalist billionaires to destroy America.
In my #1 bestselling book back in 2013, “The Ultimate Obama Survival Guide” I reported Obama’s plan was to “boil the frog slowly.” To destroy America in small steps, to move so slowly that we wouldn’t notice we were being destroyed, until it was too late. Hillary Clinton was supposed to finish the job. Hillary’s election was supposed to be Obama’s third term.
But Donald J. Trump came along and ruined the plan. Trump became the first politician in history to beat a rigged election. That’s why Hillary and Democrats were so shocked. Obama rigged it, so Hillary could not lose.
How did Obama do that? In addition to the usual Democrat tricks of stuffing the ballot box in Democrat run inner cities, with no Voter ID and no signature match, Obama spied on the Trump campaign.
But Trump brought out more working and middle-class voters than any candidate in history. He beat the rig. He won even though Obama spied on him. Even though Obama knew everything Trump was doing and planning- and gave it all to Hillary.
Enter Russia Collusion.
See the Durham Report. We now know for a fact this was a fraud made up by Hillary. We also know that Hillary laid out this scam to Obama and Biden in the Oval Office. Obama gave his approval. Then Obama rigged the game even further- making sure his handpicked DOJ and FBI would never prosecute these high crimes.
Obama also made sure they’d continue spying on the now President Trump. And use the weaponized federal government filled with Obama hacks to target, frame, demonize and destroy Trump the president.
But wait, there’s more. I may despise Obama, but I also respect him. Because he’s brilliant. He ran the country like John Gotti ran his crime family. Nothing happened under Obama without him knowing.
So, when Durham reports Obama’s FBI was not allowed to prosecute Hillary for her Clinton Foundation crimes (extorting world leaders), obviously Obama gave that order too. Obama knew everything Hillary was doing- she was his Secretary of State. And you can bet Obama got a piece of her corrupt loot in return for allowing her to do it, and for killing any DOJ/FBI investigations.
And if Obama knew about Hillary’s crimes extorting world leaders, you can also bet he knew about the Joe Biden “Big Guy” scam. Joe was his Vice President. You think Joe and his slimy son Hunter ran around the world extorting money from world leaders and Obama didn’t know about it? You can bet Obama got a piece of Biden’s corruption too.
Just like John Gotti. The mafia Don always gets a piece of every scam run by the capos under him. Or they get wacked.
And where was all the corrupt loot run out of? The Clinton Foundation. That’s why it was based offshore- far away from prying eyes. As one more layer of protection, Obama ordered the DOJ and FBI to look the other way.

When King David established Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city circa 1000 BCE, Jerusalem became the center of the Jewish nation’s sovereignty. Throughout Jewish history, the city has remained Israel’s capital. The centrality of Jerusalem for Jews is mirrored in their daily prayers, holidays, rituals and fervent appeals to G-d for her restoration.

Feb. 20, 2024 4:30 pm – A heated exchange erupted on Fox News’ “The Five” as co-hosts debated the implications of an egregious decision by New York judge Arthur Engoron against former President Donald Trump.
The panel discussion took a fiery turn when Jeanine Pirro, Greg Gutfeld, and Jesse Watters clashed with their Democrat co-host Jessica Tarlov over the ruling and broader issues affecting New York.
The ruling levied fines of over $350 million and enforced a three-year ban on Trump from holding executive office or securing loans from New York banks.
Jeanine Pirro, a former judge, vehemently criticized the handling of Trump’s fraud case.
“This Leticia James is out of control. She is unethical. She is inept. You do not pick a person and say, ‘I will find a crime. I don’t like you. I’m going to find…’ We’ve got all this crime going out here, and this woman’s after Donald Trump. Shame on her and all of them,” said Pirro.
The conversation then shifted to Democrat co-host Jessica Tarlov, who countered by emphasizing the legal implications of Trump’s actions and the need to uphold the law against falsifying business records and committing insurance fraud.
“I assume they’ve thought about this long enough that they have a good answer for that. But basically, everyone who is defending Donald Trump in this, from Kevin O’Leary to some folks here, is saying it is okay to falsify your business records, to issue false financial statements, to commit conspiracy for insurance fraud,” said Tarlov.
However, the debate quickly escalated as Tarlov and Pirro clashed over the specifics of Trump’s financial dealings, with Tarlov insinuating that Trump maintained three sets of books for various purposes—a claim that Pirro challenged.
Tarlov then mentioned about the January 6 event and the FBI raid in Mar-a-Lago.
“So since Donald Trump ran the first time, he has been making this argument, ‘If they could do this to me, they could do this to you.’ The average person is not inflating their wealth by 800 million to $2.2 billion. They’re not sexually assaulting women. They’re not storing classified documents in the toilet. They’re not fomenting an insurrection,” said Tarlov.
Gutfeld joined the fray by drawing an analogy between contract negotiations and Trump’s situation, suggesting that aggressive bargaining doesn’t equate to breaking the law. “There is no fraud here, which is why you’re bringing up other stuff,” Gutfeld directed at Tarlov.
Watters then weighed in, arguing that Tarlov lacked an understanding of real estate, finance, and the legal complexities involved in such cases. He staunchly defended Trump’s impact on New York City, lambasting Letitia James for not addressing street crime and targeting political adversaries instead.
“Jessica knows nothing about real estate, real estate valuations, real estate development, the IRS, or getting loans from big banks to develop skylines in New York City. Donald Trump did more for New York City than a thousand Leticia James has done,” said Watters.
“Then her phony friend, Alvin Bragg, if you just try to defend yourself working at a bodega or on the subway, he goes after you. That’s why 160 businesses have left New York. That’s why almost a million New Yorkers have left. This is an unsafe climate if you have a certain political opinion. It’s why companies don’t do business in Venezuela, Russia, and Pakistan, because it’s corrupt. Because if you’re on the other side of the political people that are in power at the time, they’ll target your business.”
Watters extended the debate to national politics, drawing comparisons between the scrutiny of Trump and the business dealings of the Biden crime family. He called for equal treatment under the law, highlighting accusations of tax fraud and improper foreign dealings by the Bidens.

On February 4, The Jerusalem Post reported, “[Marwan] Barghouti is a popular figure in Palestinian politics, with many seeing him as a successor to 88-year-old Palestinian Authority (PA) head Mahmoud Abbas.”
Abbas is a member of Fatah and has been in power since the 2004 death of terrorist leader Yasser Arafat.
Barghouti has been a leading figure in Fatah for decades and joined when he was just 15, more than 50 years ago. A convicted mass murderer, Barghouti has been jailed since 2002. He was found guilty in an Israeli civilian court of 26 charges of murder and attempted murder of both Israeli civilians and soldiers. He is not a political prisoner. Barghouti is well known and electable, and the Associated Press reported in December 2023 that “the most popular politician remains Marwan Barghouti.”
The immediate release of terrorists incarcerated by Israel has remained a repeated demand by Hamas and recently, it added Barghouti to the list of those who must be freed.
This should be interpreted as both highly significant and surprising. Hamas’s push for Barghouti as a replacement for Abbas may be based on the assumption that America and Europe believe Barghouti to be someone they will be able to collaborate easily with to create a state.
