Ethics of Our Fighters: A Jewish View on War and Morality Louis Finkelman
Rabbinic literature has rarely had to confront the ethical challenges of modern warfare.
When Shlomo Brody told a learned colleague that he, Brody, was working on writing a book on Jewish military ethics, the colleague responded, “That’s going to be a very short book.”
The colleague had reasons for skepticism. Biblical sources instruct soldiers of the kingdoms of Judah and Israel in response to the norms of war in antiquity; it seems plausible that modern warfare has different norms.
For the past two millennia, Jews have generally existed as partially tolerated minorities in someone else’s country. The world’s political leaders and military commanders chose their actions without consulting Jewish sages. Jews more often participated in warfare as civilian casualties. Over those centuries, rabbinic literature has rarely had to confront the ethical challenges of modern warfare.
When Jews were drafted, rabbis advised them on a narrower agenda: how to hold on to Jewish identity or ritual practices while serving in national armies.
But as Jewish communities in pre-state Israel faced violent opposition, they needed organized self-defense; and then as the nation of Israel achieved independence surrounded by ferocious enemies, it needed a national army.
Reality rather suddenly confronted modern Jews with all the ethical challenges of military force. Political leaders, military commanders, secular ethicists and rabbinic scholars argued about what principles should apply, and how to apply those principles, even as fighters engaged in unavoidable bloody conflicts. Jewish military ethics had to grow up fast; “Jewish Military Ethics” could not remain a short book.
“Following many centuries of powerlessness,” Brody observes, “Jews needed to ask: What does it mean to fight as a Jew?”
Case Studies
In each case study in Ethics of Our Fighters, Shlomo Brody presents a dramatic life-and-death confrontation in real life and competing recommendations for what fighters should have done.
Brody tells the stories in rough in increasing analytic subtlety. He begins with incidents in World War I that inspired Rabbi Aaron Samuel Tamares (1869-1931) to the absolute pacifist evaluation that taking part in war amounts to idolatry. Brody repeatedly manages, in the course of three or four pages, to involve readers in a compelling dramatic military account, and then to sympathetically present contrasting evaluations of the combatants’ actions. Brody moves seamlessly among the evaluations presented by political leaders, military commanders, academic ethicists and rabbinic scholars, all in clear, direct, readable, compelling prose.
Remarkably, as Brody retells the military dilemmas in chronological order, he also presents the issues in conceptual order. He moves from considering which circumstances justify the use of military force and who should make that decision, to whether a preemptive attack can ever be justified, and then to which activities should remain off limits even once military force has initiated. He considers when it makes sense to apply tests such as “proportionality” and “civilian immunity.”

If you can’t beat your opponent, indict him on false charges, rig the judge and jury, put on a “communist show trial,” and convict him to destroy his life, reputation and presidential campaign.
But as usual, this weaponization of government and unAmerican lawfare has backfired on Democrats.
With each of the four rigged indictments, they turned Trump into a martyr. They actually made Trump “sympathetic” for the first time. Now with this rigged conviction, they’ve moved into new territory…
Democrats have turned Trump into “America’s Nelson Mandela.”
Mandela spent many years locked up in prison. But in the end, he became a beloved legend, and the President of South Africa. The people of South Africa decided enough was enough. They saw the injustice of their government, and they chose the victim of this unjust, weaponized system to lead the country and reform the system.
The parallels between Trump and Mandela are astounding.
Trump, like Mandela, is a victim of an unjust system- in Trump’s case a weaponized government and a corrupt justice system that has railroaded him. Like Mandela, the victim of this very system (Trump) is the one best equipped to become President, and then clean up the crimes and corruption of the Deep State.
I believe Trump can use this conviction to win not only a landslide, but a mandate from the American people. A mandate to clean up the system, put the evil wrongdoers in prison for treason, and make sure this sad chapter in our history never happens again.

May 30, 2024 – It’s a response from Dr. Denis MacEoin to the motion put forward by The Edinburgh Student’s Association to boycott all things Israeli, in which they claim Israel is under an apartheid regime.
Denis is an expert in Middle Eastern affairs and was a senior editor of the Middle East Quarterly. Here’s his letter to the students.

May I be permitted to say a few words to members of the EUSA? I am an Edinburgh graduate (MA 1975) who studied Persian, Arabic and Islamic History in Buccleuch Place under William Montgomery Watt and Laurence Elwell Sutton, two of Britain ‘s great Middle East experts in their day. I later went on to do a PhD at Cambridge and to teach Arabic and Islamic Studies at Newcastle University . Naturally, I am the author of several books and hundreds of articles in this field. I say all that to show that I am well informed in Middle Eastern affairs and that, for that reason, I am shocked and disheartened by the EUSA motion and vote.
I am shocked for a simple reason: there is not and has never been a system of apartheid in Israel .
That is not my opinion, that is fact that can be tested against reality by any Edinburgh student, should he or she choose to visit Israel to see for themselves. Let me spell this out, since I have the impression that those members of EUSA who voted for this motion are absolutely clueless in matters concerning Israel, and that they are, in all likelihood, the victims of extremely biased propaganda coming from the anti-Israel lobby.
Being anti-Israel is not in itself objectionable. But I’m not talking about ordinary criticism of Israel . I’m speaking of a hatred that
permits itself no boundaries in the lies and myths it pours out. Thus, Israel is repeatedly referred to as a “Nazi” state. In what sense is
this true, even as a metaphor? Where are the Israeli concentration camps? The einzatsgruppen? The SS? The Nuremberg Laws? The Final Solution? None of these things nor anything remotely resembling them exists in Israel , precisely because the Jews, more than anyone on earth, understand what Nazism stood for.
It is claimed that there has been an Israeli Holocaust in Gaza (or elsewhere). Where? When? No honest historian would treat that claim with anything but the contempt it deserves. But calling Jews Nazis and saying they have committed a Holocaust is as basic a way to subvert historical fact as anything I can think of.
Likewise apartheid. For apartheid to exist, there would have to be a situation that closely resembled how things were in South Africa under the apartheid regime. Unfortunately for those who believe this, a weekend in any part of Israel would be enough to show how ridiculous the claim is.
That a body of university students actually fell for this and voted on it is a sad comment on the state of modern education. The most obvious focus for apartheid would be the country’s 20% Arab population. Under Israeli law, Arab Israelis have exactly the same rights as Jews or anyone else; Muslims have the same rights as Jews or Christians; Baha’is, severely persecuted in Iran, flourish in Israel, where they have their world center; Ahmadi Muslims, severely persecuted in Pakistan and elsewhere, are kept safe by Israel; the holy places of all religions are protected under a specific Israeli law. Arabs form 20% of the university population (an exact echo of their percentage in the general population).
In Iran , the Bahai’s (the largest religious minority) are forbidden to study in any university or to run their own universities: why
aren’t your members boycotting Iran ? Arabs in Israel can go anywhere they want, unlike blacks in apartheid South Africa . They use public transport, they eat in restaurants, they go to swimming pools, they use libraries, they go to cinemas alongside Jews – something no blacks were able to do in South Africa .
Israeli hospitals not only treat Jews and Arabs, they also treat Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank.
On the same wards, in the same operating theatres.
In Israel , women have the same rights as men: there is no gender apartheid.
Gay men and women face no restrictions, and Palestinian gays often escape into Israel, knowing they may be killed at home.
It seems bizarre to me that LGBT groups call for a boycott of Israel and say nothing about countries like Iran , where gay men are hanged or stoned to death. That illustrates a mindset that beggars belief.
Intelligent students thinking it’s better to be silent about regimes that kill gay people, but good to condemn the only country in the
Middle East that rescues and protects gay people. Is that supposed to be a sick joke?
University is supposed to be about learning to use your brain, to think rationally, to examine evidence, to reach conclusions based on solid evidence, to compare sources, to weigh up one view against one or more others. If the best Edinburgh can now produce are students who have no idea how to do any of these things, then the future is bleak.
I do not object to well-documented criticism of Israel . I do object when supposedly intelligent people single the Jewish state out above states that are horrific in their treatment of their populations. We are going through the biggest upheaval in the Middle East since the 7th and 8th centuries, and it’s clear that Arabs and Iranians are rebelling against terrifying regimes that fight back by killing their own citizens.
Israeli citizens, Jews and Arabs alike, do not rebel (though they are free to protest). Yet Edinburgh students mount no demonstrations and call for no boycotts against Libya , Bahrain , Saudi Arabia , Yemen , and Iran . They prefer to make false accusations against one of the world’s freest countries, the only country in the Middle East that has taken in Darfur refugees, the only country in the Middle East that gives refuge to gay men and women, the only country in the Middle East that
protects the Bahai’s…. Need I go on?
The imbalance is perceptible, and it sheds no credit on anyone who voted for this boycott. I ask you to show some common sense. Get information from the Israeli embassy. Ask for some speakers. Listen to more than one side.
Do not make your minds up until you have given a fair hearing to both parties. You have a duty to your students, and
that is to protect them from one-sided argument.
They are not at university to be propagandized. And they are certainly not there to be tricked into anti-Semitism by punishing one country among all the countries of the world, which happens to be the only Jewish state. If there had been a single Jewish state in the 1930’s (which, sadly, there was not), don’t you think Adolf Hitler would have decided to boycott it?
Your generation has a duty to ensure that the perennial racism of anti-Semitism never sets down roots among you. Today, however, there are clear signs that it has done so and is putting down more. You have a chance to avert a very great evil, simply by using reason and a sense of fair play. Please tell me that this makes sense. I have given you some of the evidence.

Think They’ll Never ‘Come and Take’ Your Guns Without an Armed Revolt? Think Again Scott Morefield
Mar 12, 2018 – The recent gun control debate ignited by last month’s tragedy in Parkland, Florida, has liberals trotting out what has become a favorite Leftist talking point – Australia’s 1996 National Agreement on Firearms, an act which, among other things, severely restricted semi-automatic rifles after after a similarly horrific mass shooting.
Liberals consider the cornerstone of the law, a massive forced gun buyback program, a “common sense” approach to what might otherwise be perceived by gun owners as an unwelcome curtailing of traditional American freedoms. Sure, the government may be forcing gun owners to make the transaction, but exchanging money for items IS capitalism, right? And it sure beats the alternative, a Communist-style door-to-door roundup of weapons that both sides agree would likely lead to civil war.
Don’t get me wrong, I think most true Leftists would LOVE to harness the power of the State to crush liberty-minded gun owners by every means necessary, and if a few of the right eggs are broken in the process, so much the better. But realists on both sides know such a scenario is highly unlikely to happen, at least to a result the Left would want. In all likelihood, open displays of tyrannical force such as openly rounding up certain people groups or door-to-door weapons confiscations are highly likely to result in open displays of resistance, and a civil war that is likely to be fought, and won, by the good guys.

On the topic of whether or not citizens could resist “violent tyranny,” Townhall’s Kurt Schlichter writes, “The short answer is, ‘Yes.’ As Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan all teach, a decentralized insurgency with small arms can effectively confront a modern police/military force … But the bottom line is that two untrained idiots with handguns shut down Boston. What do you think 100 million Americans – many trained and some battle-tested – could do with their rifles?”
“There is no other way around it: The mandatory confiscation of the American citizenry’s guns would involve tens of thousands of heavily armed federal agents going door-to-door to demand of millions of Americans that they surrender their guns. That. Is. Not. Going. To. Happen,” opines National Review’s Mark Wright.
“Make no mistake, armed rebellion would be the consequence,” writes Varad Mehta for The Federalist in a piece that’s par for the course when it comes to most thinking on the right. “Armed men would be dispatched to confiscate guns, they would be met by armed men, and blood would be shed. Australia is a valid example for America only if you are willing for that blood to be spilled in torrents and rivers. To choose Australia is to choose civil war.”

Trump was found guilty on all 34 charges of falsifying business records related to a hush-money payment made to adult porn star Stormy Daniels in what is widely regarded as a rigged process.
Musk appeared to agree with that assessment, tweeting out his condemnation of the verdict to his over 185 million followers on the X platform.
“The first felony conviction of a former US President wasn’t for the Iraq or Afghanistan wars, illegal CIA coups, drone striking weddings, or spying on Americans… It was because Trump misclassified a $130,000 payment for a porn star’s NDA,” wrote a user by the name Geiger Capital.
“Indeed, great damage was done today to the public’s faith in the American legal system,” Musk responded. “If a former President can be criminally convicted over such a trivial matter – motivated by politics, rather than justice – then anyone is at risk of a similar fate.”
Musk will be all too aware of the risks of malicious prosecution. Since he bought the X platform and began stating his opposition to leftist ideology, various senior Democrats including Sen. Elizabeth Warren have called for “investigations” into his companies.
Trump, meanwhile, is now the first former U.S. president to be convicted of a crime. His sentencing is scheduled for July three days before the Republican convention.

“And in the end, with all this smoke and mirrors, at 34 counts, and a hooker, and a guy, [who] according to a federal judge is a serial perjurer, we have convicted a former President of the United States of America,” she continued.
Democrats have set a dangerous precedent by doing this. They may not like life under the new rules they have created.

MAY 31, 2024 – “These Democrats will rue the day they decided to use lawfare to stop a presidential candidate,” warned Megyn Kelly, a prominent broadcaster and journalist, on her show Thursday evening.
In light of the New York ‘hush money’ trial guilty verdict, making Donald Trump the first former president in American history to be convicted of a felony, Kelly suggested that a reckoning is coming for Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton.
“You just wait, and it won’t be Hunter Biden the next time,” she declared. “It’s going to be Joe Biden. It could potentially still be Barack Obama. It could still potentially be Hillary Clinton. We’re going to have to look at what the statutes of limitations are on the various crimes they surely committed. We’re going to have to look at passing laws to revive those dead crimes, felonies, or misdemeanors so that those cases can be brought out of time.”
Kelly concluded, “The only way to save the Republic now is to give them a taste of their own medicine.”
She compared the Democrats to a wolf that just “tasted blood” and suggested the only way to stop a wolf from “coming back for more” is “if he loses a limb of his own.”
“Who’s getting indicted next?” she asked. “Joe Biden? Maybe Jill Biden? How low can we go? You may not want to see it. That ship has already left port. That horse has left the barn. That’s where we’re going. So before you celebrate too much over at MSNBC and CNN, who are positively gleeful, gleeful over this absurd conviction, you wait and ask yourself, ask yourself what kind of Pandora’s box has been opened here?”

Today, after the guilty verdict came down, Turley reacted by calling it ‘bizarre’ and noting that it is still not even clear what Trump was specifically found guilty of.
He also suggested that the case will be overturned on appeal.

Turley, who was there at the time of the verdict’s reading, called it “one of the most bizarre moments” he ever experienced in the courtroom. Judge Juan Merchan had just said the jury had not yet reached a decision and that they’d be dismissed for the day.

That’s an army bigger than our entire combined armed forces (we have 1.3 million active-duty military).
That’s an army bigger than our entire combined police force in the USA (we have 800,000 combined police officers).
I’ve written many commentaries warning what they might have planned for America. My biggest fear is not another massive high-tech 9-11 terror attack. Although that may be coming.
My biggest fear is simple, low-tech attacks that are easy and inexpensive to carry out. I’ve even used the name “Red Damn” to describe what I see coming. Remember the movie “Red Dawn” starring Patrick Swayze? America was invaded by a foreign country (Russia).
Well, today there is no need for an invasion by our enemies. Because the invasion has already happened. Millions of terrorists and Chinese military age males are already inside the USA.
But what are they waiting for? Are they waiting for the right moment to create chaos for our upcoming presidential election?
Are they waiting for the moment China attacks Taiwan?
Are they training inside our country for the perfect moment for a coordinated “Red Dawn” terror attack?
Simple. Inexpensive. All our enemies would need to do is the following: Coordinate 50 groups of terrorists to walk into supermarkets, department stores, train stations, airport terminals, hotel lobbies, restaurants, nightclubs, theatres and schools. 50 groups at the exact same time, in 50 cities across the country. And start killing.
Who would stop them?
It’s already proven successful in Israel on October 7th. That’s the blueprint. By the time enough police, or military get to each terror scene there will be 100 dead, or more, at each scene. What if 100 Americans were murdered in 50 cities at the exact same time?
That’s 5,000 dead Americans.
America would be paralyzed. The economy would come to a standstill. The stock market would crash. No one would leave their house for weeks. Cities would become ghost towns. Our streets would be patrolled by military. This is how you collapse a powerful country.
And this would be easy to do. Just find 100 terrorists in 50 cities. That’s 5,000 terrorists. Armed with only pistols, rifles, and knives. Throw in a few grenades. Low tech.
Is finding 5,000 terrorists hard? It’s easy considering there may be two million terrorists inside the USA. Now keep in mind, this was all from my imagination.
But what if I told you my worst fears and nightmares have now been confirmed?
Days ago, my CIA sources called me to tell me the US government knows a “Red Dawn” terrorist attack is coming any day. That’s their exact words. “Red Dawn.” The CIA is scared to death. Yet they refuse to warn the American people.
Worse, they know exactly why it’s coming. This is the direct fault of the Biden administration. And I’m not even talking about the open border.
It turns out that when Biden (and his boss Obama) ordered the U.S. military retreat from Afghanistan (the worst retreat in US military history)…and ordered them to abandon their bases, leaving behind $85 billion dollars of equipment…guess what was left behind?
First, it appears they left behind sensitive information with names and addresses of US military “special operators” (ie Navy Seals, Green Berets, special forces). Which would explain the incident days ago, in North Carolina, where two Chechen utility contractors illegally in the U.S. were spotted with telephoto lens outside the home of a US Special Forces Major. The Major saw them taking photos of his children playing, confronted them and shot one dead.
How did these alleged terrorists know the name of this Major? How did they find his address? Why were they at his home taking photos of his children? How many families of special forces are in danger right now? Thank Joe Biden- he handed them that information.
But it gets worse.
The NSA in its haste to abandon Afghanistan under orders from Joe Biden (and his boss Obama) left behind sensitive equipment that creates and issues official U.S. passports.
Let that sink in for a moment.
Terrorist enemies of the US now have the capability to issue official U.S. passports to as many terrorists as they want, to come to America and commit mass murder. They don’t even need to sneak in over the open border. Now they can walk right into our country at any airport and breeze right through customs.

05/30/2024 – Last week was an impressive one for Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for President of the United States. In contrast to his likely opponent, President Joe Biden, Trump is an energetic, fearless campaigner. Could you imagine Joe Biden speaking in front of a skeptical, much less, hostile crowd? After all, the poor guy has enough trouble when he’s in front of his own cheerleaders. But that’s exactly what Trump did last week. Twice, in fact. Once in the deep blue Bronx and then again at the Libertarian Party National Convention (LPNC).
As people who have long been involved with the Liberty Movement, particularly Mayor Glenn Jacobs, Trump’s appearance at the LPNC was especially remarkable. The former President is the first candidate from the major political parties to accept the LP’s invitation to speak at their convention. For that alone, he deserves mad respect. More importantly, during his speech, Trump made a compelling case about why libertarians should vote for him.
As with other organizations and movements, libertarianism is not monolithic. For instance, we consider ourselves “conservatarians” and approach Liberty from the perspective of economic freedom. Our most significant issues are taxes and promoting our free enterprise economy, which has lifted more people out of poverty than any government program could dream of doing. We’re also traditionalists. Human society requires structure and rules. If we want to downsize government, we must strengthen institutions like the family, the church, and civic organizations. Otherwise, instead of the anarcho-capitalism envisioned by Murray Rothbard, Javier Milei, and others, we’ll end up with lawless chaos. Finally, we believe that individual responsibility is the flip side of individual liberty, meaning we reject the libertine undertones often displayed by left-wing libertarians.
For someone like us, Trump is a superior candidate. Look at his track record. Not only is he the first President in memory not to start a new war, but he was in the process of ending operations in Afghanistan and bringing our troops home safely before his term ended (and the Biden Administration tragically bungled those efforts). The Trump tax cuts were the biggest in history. He pushed through the most essential common-sense criminal justice reform ever with the bipartisan First Step Act. Trump expanded healthcare freedom through the lifesaving Right To Try Act, enacted historic deregulation by cutting eight-and-a-half regulations for every new rule created, and helped keep the internet accessible by opposing net neutrality.

May 29, 2024, 9:59 PM (GMT+3) INN – Some books hit you where you live. So it is with A. E. Hotchner’s “Papa Hemingway,” where Hotchner lovingly tells of his 13 year friendship with Hemingway.
These would be the last years of Hemingway’s life. Hotchner left us the year 2020 at the age of 102.
I wrote the column “Hemingway and a Lost Generation,” back in July 2, 2013, and there it sits as article 102 as part of my collection of essays for the book, “Writings.”
These things happen. How and why, I do not know, except that, no doubt about it, God’s Hand is in everything.
Hemingway, in his own way, believed this, too. “The Sun Also Rises,” was his tribute to King Solomon’s “Ecclesiastes.”
Moreover, his style of writing, he often remarked…those taut, sharp sentences, came less from Gertrude Stein, and more from Hebrew Scriptures.
Was he antisemitic? Noting his dislike of Robert Cohn (the stand-in for Harold Loeb), the consensus is yes, yes, he was.
At the same time, however, two of his best friends were Jewish…Peter Viertel, and Hotchner. People, then, are not so easy to categorize.
Most of us come without labels, and even the best of us are varied and imperfect. King Solomon observes…
“For there is no man so wholly righteous on earth, that he always does good and never sins.”
Yet in this generation, we slouch forward under the heavy hand of DEI, and if you do not comply with its rules of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, consider yourself outcast.
You must obey and conform.
Falling in swiftly were the corporations, which included the Hollywood studios, who were given strict instructions for diversity.
Every movie and TV presentation must include a specific number of blacks, gays, transgenders and Asians.
In any conflict between a black person and a white person, the black person must always come out ahead. He or she gets the girl.
By their book, white people are often sinful, all black people are always virtuous. George Floyd, for example.
Like that it has been over the past 15 years, for all Corporate America as well, where every commercial for any product includes at least one black performer.
In Sports, white players must be careful. They should not get too much attention, as has been happening with Catlin Clark, who is so talented that she overshadows her basketball teammates, and is tops for the entire league, which is the WNBA, the Women’s National Basketball Association.
Trouble is…she is White, and this is causing pain, suffering, anguish, bitching and backbiting from the DEI community. She dares to be the best.
So that’s DEI, which in a way is the revival of the Hays Code, a system of self-censorship that was approved by the Hollywood studios in order to be good citizens.
Thus, from 1934 until 1968, every movie was checked for excessive sex and violence. Plus, there must be “no sympathy for criminals.”
In fact, and most damning for the creative process, at the end of the movie, the bad guy must pay for his misdeeds, often the electric chair. He must never get away with it.
Hence the expression, Crime Doesn’t Pay.
However, the element of surprise is gone. You know, during the Hays period, how the movie will end, so every screenwriter is stymied by that rule of retribution.
Therefore, Israel. During this age of DEI, and the former Hays Code, there can be no surprises…no happy ending for the Jewish State.
Israel must pay for its crime of being Jewish. See the shellacking it gets from the campus Hitler Youth, to the USA Democrats, to the UN, to the ICC, and goons everywhere else.
Goons like Robert De Niro.
Finally, the studios fought back against the Hays Code, and people are getting wise to the bullying of DEI.
The time has come for Israel to flip the script.
Now it is up to Israel to provide a surprise…a surprise happy ending against Hamas, which will come the hour his forces have been obliterated and Sinwar raises the white flag.

Trump will be branded as unbeatable and unstoppable.
Not even a fake crime, a frame job, with a rigged judge with “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” and a rigged jury filled with biased New York liberals, can beat Trump. He will be seen as super-human. So, there’s win number one. And it’s a big one. Historic. Legendary.
The Trump legend grows even bigger!
Second option, and much more likely, considering this is clearly a “communist show trial” that would make Stalin, or Mao, or Fidel Castro proud, set up from start-to-finish to find Trump guilty, no matter how absurd the charges, no matter how pathetic the case presented, no matter how embarrassing the witnesses.
So, let’s just assume the prearranged outcome becomes reality- sadly, tragically, Trump is found guilty. Trump is immediately put in handcuffs and led off to prison, if only for a few hours. Another infamous Trump mug shot is taken. Guess what…

After nation building failed in Afghanistan and Iraq, and everywhere else it’s been tried, the radioactive ‘Palestinian’ nation building experiment from over 30 years ago is its last hope.
Long before George W. Bush tackled nation building after 9/11, his father began the era of turning Muslim terrorist groups into countries with the project to give the PLO a state. Where the first Bush failed, Bill Clinton succeeded with the Oslo accords and a Nobel prize for Arafat.

May 28, 2024 – In the most recent outrage, his administration sent condolences over the death of Iran’s President Raisi and joined the U.N. in a reverent minute of silence. In stark contrast, Biden disparaged Prime Minister Netanyahu as “a bad f—— guy and “a-hole” at a time when Israelis were traumatized and fighting for their lives.
It was predictable, considering that Biden brought back much of the foreign policy team of President Obama, whose backstabbing of the Jewish state foreshadowed Biden’s hostile policies.
Early in 2013, when the U.S. was still in shock over the December 14, 2012 Newtown massacre, the newly re-elected Obama decided that one of his priorities would be to pressure Israel to release scores of convicted killers, among whose victims were children.
Although political leaders, including presidents, are expected to flip-flop occasionally, this might have been the first administration in history to flip-flop on the issue of the murder of innocents.
That same year marked two anniversaries of child slaughter that the Obama administration reacted to in chillingly conflicting ways, apparently based on the victims’ nationality and religion.
To observe the 50th anniversary of the 1963 firebombing murders of four African-American girls in Birmingham, President Obama solemnly paid tribute to the victims.
One month later, Israel marked a similar tragic milestone — the 25th anniversary of the firebombing murders of the nine-months-pregnant Rachel Weiss, a 26-year-old second-grade teacher, and her sons — Netanel, 4; Rafael, 2; and Ephraim, 21 months. Israeli soldier David Delorosa also died in a heroic attempt to save them. Israel considered imposing the death penalty for the first time since Adolf Eichmann was put to death in 1962.
Unfortunately, the Weiss brothers did not look like Obama’s own imagined sons, and unfortunately, they, their mother, and the soldier who died trying to save them were citizens of the nation Obama’s mentor Jeremiah Wright referred to as “that dirty word.” And so, using secretary of state John Kerry as his point man, Obama began pushing for the release of their killers, along with scores of other terrorists convicted of murder or attempted murder.
In early April of 2013, Kerry began his mission, only to be abruptly interrupted when, within days, Islamic terrorists struck the Boston Marathon, killing an 8-year-old boy and two adults and wounding 264 others. Kerry spoke of a “direct confrontation with evil,” vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice, and expressed his horror that some victims were so young: “It defies words to hear of children killed and horribly maimed on the streets of my city. It is sickening to see my home turned into a place of carnage.”
Then Kerry quickly resumed pressuring Israel, and by late April, he obtained an agreement for the mass release of prisoners with innocent blood on their hands.
Fast-forward to early August of that year, and another horrific, stranger-than-fiction coincidence that, like the timing of the Boston Marathon bombing, looked a lot like instant karma for the Obama administration. Israel was two days away from obeying the State Department’s request to free the first 26 Palestinian terrorists when the news broke that Mexico had released the drug lord convicted in the heinous slaying of a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent.
The Obama administration denounced the injustice: “We are deeply concerned by the release of Rafael Caro Quintero,” said National Security Council spokesperson Caitlin Hayden. “We remain as committed today in seeing Quintero and others involved in this crime face justice.”
So American lives have value. But what about the case of former U.S. Marine Frederick Steven Rosenfeld, a dual U.S.-Israel citizen who was stabbed to death by a terrorist in the Israeli city of Ariel? Evaluating the worth of his life by Obama standards gets us into a gray area. His worth as an American had to be weighed against his worthlessness as an Israeli. His murderer was freed, although the administration expressed concern over the release after learning that Rosenfeld was an American.
Israel-Hamas war: Terrorist weapons warehouse sparked deadly Rafah fire, IDF says [8:38]
May 28, 2024 – Israel Defense Forces are investigating after an airstrike aimed at Hamas terrorists killed Palestinian civilians. The IDF says the missiles alone would not have been enough to ignite the fire that caused many deaths.
Rafah tent camp: An airstrike triggered a massive blaze that killed 45 Palestinians in a tent camp in the Gaza city of Rafah.
Israeli war coverage: Israeli tanks hit evacuation zones west of Rafah on Tuesday, killing at least 21 people. Gaza health authorities say this took place while advancing to the heart of the southern Gaza city after a night of heavy bombardment.
“Despite our efforts to minimize civilian casualties during the strike, the fire that broke out was unexpected and unintended…Our investigation seeks to determine what may have caused such a large fire to ignite, IDF Spokesman Rear Admiral. Daniel Hagari said.“

Another murderous lie travels round the world before the truth gets its boots on
MAY 28, 2024 – Once again, Israel has been accused of heinous and inhuman behaviour — a charge that has incited yet further global hysteria and exterminatory hatred against the Jewish state — which turns out to be a vicious falsehood.
On Sunday, Israel’s air force carried out a strike in Rafah targeting two senior Hamas commanders whom it had tracked by aerial surveillance to a compound in the Tal as Sultan area.
Following this strike, a terrible fire broke out in a number of refugee tents where Gazans displaced by the war were burned alive. The Hamas-run health ministry says 45 civilians were killed here and many more injured.
This was clearly an appalling and horrifying thing to have taken place. But what happened next transformed a deeply regrettable tragedy of warfare into a malevolent blood libel.
The western media, politicians and “humanitarian” groups parroted the Hamas claim that the Israelis had wilfully targeted a refugee camp that Israel itself had designated as a protected humanitarian area. The BBC chose to report that the Irish deputy prime minister, Micheál Martin, had
condemned an Israeli air strike on a camp for displaced Palestinians, describing it as “barbaric”.
The fact that Israel had done what the world had demanded but said was impossible, by moving almost one million Gazans for their safety out of the area of Rafah where the IDF was about to conduct its military operations, counted for nothing. The strike on this humanitarian area, said the world — from the UN to the EU to the French president Emmanuel Macron — showed that there was “no safe space anywhere”. This apparently proved that the IDF assault on Rafah, in the teeth of the global requirement to desist, demonstrated the Israelis’ callous disregard for human life and the rules of war and therefore that they were truly monstrous.
Except that this was totally untrue. The Israeli strike had taken place one and half kilometres away from the designated humanitarian area. The IDF’s target location was inside the Rafah combat zone. You can see this clearly on the IDF map above.

May 28, 2024 – After a recent summit between new partners China and Russia, General Secretary Xi Jinping and Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin issued an odd one-sentence communique: “There can be no winners in a nuclear war and it should never be fought.”
No one would disagree, even though several officials of both hypocritical governments have previously threatened their neighbors with nuclear attacks.

You’ve written beautifully about my novels, and I’m so sorry for the time you’ve wasted, because apparently we have to cancel our meeting.
The universities of Warsaw and Torun have just canceled lectures by the wonderful Russian-speaking Israeli writer Yakov Shechter on the life of Galicia’s Jews in the 17th and 19th centuries “to avoid making the situation worse.” I suspected that this would affect me too, since academia is now the main breeding ground for the most disgusting and virulent anti-Semitism, disguised as so-called “criticism of Israel.” I was expecting something like this, and I even decided to write you an email about it… but I put it aside. On October 7, Saturday, the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah, the ruthless, well-trained, well-prepared and well-equipped Hamas terrorist regime of Iran, Hamas, which rules in the Gaza enclave (which Israel left around twenty years ago), attacked dozens of peaceful kibbutzim and bombarded my country with tens of thousands of rockets. Hamas has committed atrocities that even the Bible cannot describe, atrocities that rival the crimes of Sodom and Gomorrah. Atrocities filmed by the way, by GoPro cameras, the murderers having taken the horror to the point of sending the images to their families or on social networks in real time.
For hours, thousands of happy, blood-drunk beasts raped women, children and men, shooting their victims in the crotch and heads, cutting off the women’s breasts and playing football with them, cutting off the babies from the wombs of pregnant women and immediately decapitating them, tying up and burning the small children. There were so many charred bodies that, for many weeks, forensic pathologists could not cope with the enormous workload of identifying individuals.
A friend of mine, who worked in the emergency room of a New York hospital for 20 years, then in Israel for 15 years, was one of the first to arrive in the kibbutzim, as part of a team of rescuers and of doctors. She still hasn’t been able to sleep since.
While she is an emergency specialist, accustomed to dissected bodies and corpses, she fainted when she saw the macabre sight and vomited all the way back in the car. Among the Hamas militants, Palestinian civilians rushed in, participating in pogroms of unprecedented scale, pillaging, killing, dragging everything they could get their hands on. Among these “Palestinian civilians” were 450 members of this highly regarded organization UNRWA (United Nations Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East).
Judging by the utter joy of the population (also captured by thousands of mobile cameras), Hamas is supported by almost the entire population of Gaza. But the essential is there for us: More than two hundred Israelis, including women, children, the elderly and foreign workers, were dragged into the beast’s den. A hundred of them are still rotting and dying in Hamas dungeons.
It goes without saying that these victims, who continue to be mocked, are of little concern to the “academic community”. But that’s not what I’m talking about right now. I am not writing this so that anyone will sympathize with the tragedy of my people.
During all these years, while the international community has literally poured hundreds of millions of dollars into this piece of land (the Gaza Strip) — UNRWA’s annual budget alone is equivalent to a billion dollars! — During all these years, Hamas used this money to build an empire with a complex system of underground tunnels, stockpile weapons, teach schoolchildren from primary school to disassemble and assemble Kalashnikov assault rifles, print textbooks in which hatred of Israel is indescribable, in which even math problems look like this calling for the murder of Jews with every word:

May 27, 2024 – As Trump continues to show leads in critical swing states, as various lawfare-inspired cases against him seem to the public to be more persecutions than prosecutions, and as Joe Biden appears daily more incoherent and lost, the left on spec has resorted to warning the nation about all the supposedly catastrophic consequences of a future Trump presidency.
Ironically, the left seems oblivious to the reality that one reason Trump leads Biden in the polls is precisely because voters can compare the four-year record of the prior Trump presidency to Biden’s last 40 months.
Recently, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez warned that Trump will conspire with oil executives to spike gasoline prices. But even after Biden drained the strategic petroleum reserve before the 2022 midterms and is now again doing the same as the 2024 election approaches, gas prices have averaged only one-third cheaper than under Trump.
Trump tried to top off the reserve but was blocked by Democrats in Congress. Nevertheless, he left Biden a nearly full reservoir of 638 million barrels (about 90 percent full), which Biden has now drained by some 270 million barrels to the present 51 percent full—and the levels are falling further as voting nears.
We are warned that 77-year-old Trump looks haggard after his long hours in court. He seems sleepy, we are told. He has aged terribly, the media tell us. But polls show that concern over Biden’s dementia greatly outweighs normal worry over septuagenarian candidate Trump.
Why would any sane pro-Biden handler bring up Trump’s supposed gait or occasional forgotten word when that only reminds the public of the contrast with Biden, whose speeches seem delivered in something other than English and whose transcripts must be heavily edited to airbrush away his incoherence?
We are told that Trump will increase racial tensions. Almost daily, blacks and Hispanics are warned that Trump is a racist—even as polls show that he may well receive the highest percentage of minority votes by any Republican in modern history and has some chance of winning outright the Hispanic vote. Oddly, the media is now attacking minorities on the Marxist principle of false consciousness, as if they are deluded into voting against themselves rather than being perceptive critics of the Biden disaster of high inflation, green mania, a deluge of illegal aliens, and loss of deterrence abroad.
It was not Trump, but Biden, who, during the last election cycles, called one African-American journalist a “junkie” and warned another podcaster, “You ain’t black,” if he voted for Trump. And during his presidency, on occasion, Biden has referred to black subordinates as “boy,” uses the ossified term “Negro,” and has a long history of racist drivel and smears, from “put y’all back in chains” to referencing Barack Obama as the first “clean” and “articulate” presidential candidate to proudly reminding us that his home state of Delaware was once a “slave state.”
As Trump’s polls climbed and the Fani Willis persecution was sidetracked by her own false testimonies, conflicts of interest, and the hiring of her unqualified clandestine paramour, hysterical cries mounted that a reelected Trump would use the powers of government to go after his enemies.
As Jack Smith’s federal indictment became calcified over issues of presidential immunity, his failed efforts to ram through the prosecution before the election, and his office lying over tampering with evidence seized at Mar-A-Lago, tired warnings of Trump’s weaponization to come of the bureaucracy mounted even more.
Now that the jury is out in the Alvin Bragg fiasco and his star witness, Michael Cohen, a convicted liar, has likely again perjured himself and admitted to stealing $60,000 from the Trump organization, Trumpophobia has further peaked.
In other words, the more evidence mounts that Trump’s enemies have manipulated the court system in the manner that they previously impeached him twice, tried him as a private citizen in the Senate, sought to remove him from state ballots, rounded up ex-intelligence officers to lie about the authentic Hunter Biden laptop on the eve of the 2020 presidential debate, and were exposed concocting the Russian collusion yarn by hiring a foreign national in the 2016 campaign, paradoxically, the more the left-wing media warns America that a President Trump would do exactly what they have been doing by emulating their weaponization of the courts, the bureaucracy, and the Congress.
It gets stranger still.

MAY 27, 2024 – There are certain reference books that you like to keep around, One of these is Up Front, by Bill Mauldin, the cover features the image of Willie and Joe, the two main characters in his one-panel cartoons. They represent the infantrymen of the greatest generation, the rank-and-file foot soldier – the ‘dogfaces’ – that took the brunt of the fighting of the war and came back to raise another that now wants to erase their sacrifices. The book is a commentary and background for his drawings that showed the humorous, dark, and gritting side of that part of the war.
We call those cartoons the memes of the greatest generation because that is in essence what they are. Fulfilling the same function in a slightly different form, but well worth a look on this particular occasion.

May 26, 2024 – On May 12, I wrote here at the Geller Report about Maher Bitar, Old Joe Biden’s new special counsel and director of intelligence and defense programs at the National Security Council. Bitar is important because he is a longtime foe of Israel, an alumnus of the viciously anti-Israel campus group Students for Justice in Palestine, and an indication of how the Biden regime’s betrayal of Israel is not just the result of the regime’s fear of losing Michigan in November, but is also the fruit of personnel decisions that Biden’s handlers made at the beginning of the regime. Bitar is not even close to being the sole foe of Israel at high levels among Biden apparatchiks.
Besides Bitar, there is Hady Amr, the regime’s special representative for Palestinian affairs. Before that, Amr was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Israeli and Palestinian Affairs in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs within the State Department. Amr is also an indefatigable supporter of the genocidal Palestinian Arab jihad against Israel.
Back in 2002, Amr declared: “I was inspired by the Palestinian intifada.” He said that Palestinian Arabs would “never, never forget what the Israeli people, the Israeli military, and Israeli democracy have done to Palestinian children. And there will be thousands who will seek to avenge these brutal murders of innocents.” He did not, of course, say a word about Hamas’ long-established practice of launching jihad attacks from civilian areas, so that retaliatory fire could be used for propaganda purposes.
Of course, that was a long time ago, but Amr went on to a long career in the Obama administration and elsewhere, and never showed any sign that he had moderated his positions. He still hasn’t to this day.

May 27, 2024 – Meron was declared a closed military zone in the now-annual tradition of finding a pretext to bar Jews from going there on Lag Ba’omer and incite hatred against “haredim”, all in the name of “public safety”. This year the pretext was Hezbollah might fire rockets and kill everyone, and it is likely this pretext will be recycled every year from now on until Hashem redeems us from the Erev Rav who rule over the land.
Arab-looking police and IDF soldiers were out in force battering religious Jews, which is also an annual tradition at Meron. For some reason, none of these Gestapo thugs seemed at all worried that a rocket might land on them at any time. Their bravery was on full display as they beat helpless Jews without regard for the danger they faced from incoming missiles. They must have nerves of steel.
The controlled media did its job, and portrayed the battered Jews as the aggressors who got what they deserved.
After our heroes in unforms cleared the site of disease-spreading, haredi parasites, who endanger themselves and everyone else with their selfish, reckless behavior, state-employed, state-serving Zionist rabbis and IDF soldiers celebrated with an early morning religious ceremony (see here). The privileged elite know that people’s memories are too short and their minds too muddled to make appropriate connections and draw appropriate conclusions. The peasants are brainwashed, cowardly, and have rough lives. They are slaves and they don’t even know it. They will take the bait to direct their frustrations against each other instead of those who oppress them all.
Although the police/surveillance state does not let us see what happened from cameras at the site, there are unpleasant videos of Jews being battered by Gestapo thugs on Meron. We see an elderly man being showed face-first to the pavement. We see another elderly man in a wheelchair being attacked.
Many of the peasants blame the victims and lick the boots of the oppressors. They foolishly believe this will earn them brownie points when their time comes.
But the homemade videos that escaped confiscation are too disturbing to be dismissed (see here). So the controlled media expresses concern, and controlled opposition ministers feign outrage, and they promise that the perpetrators will be brought to justice immediately. All in a day’s work.
The police responded to the allegations of brutality with a statement: “Since the morning hours, hundreds of people arrived at the area of the gravesite, clashing with the police and causing damage to property placed at the site for the purpose of ensuring their safety.”
They would have responded with an image of the middle finger, but this is more professional.
Tomorrow there will be something else to distract the peasants, and that will be the end of it.

May 27, 2024, 7:03 AM (GMT+3) (JNS) – The footage screened on a digital billboard in New York City’s Times Square on Friday isn’t for the faint-hearted. Still, viewing it is a must for anyone who doesn’t believe, or has forgotten, the atrocities committed by Hamas on Oct. 7.
The clip was released on Wednesday by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum. It was filmed by a group of Palestinian Arab terrorists armed with deadly weapons and body cameras—the latter to document their genocidal attack.
In the video, the men are seen tying up and sexually abusing five female Israel Defense Forces spotters at the Nahal Oz army base, before abducting them to Gaza.
The parents of 19-year-olds Liri Albag, Karina Ariev, Agam Berger, Daniela Gilboa and Naama Levy decided to allow the three-minute horror show—edited to exclude images of the many corpses of the girls’ compatriots—to be broadcast locally and abroad.
“You dogs, we will step on you!” shouts one of the perpetrators in Arabic.
“Take pictures of them,” instructs another.
“Here are the women who can get pregnant,” yet another barbarian announces. “These are the Zionists.”
Staring at the bloodied and bound victims dressed in pajamas, a sleazy predator says in English, “You are so beautiful.”
Though a mere slice of what happened on that Black Sabbath—the massacre of 1,200 innocent people enjoying the Simchat Torah holiday in their homes and at the Nova music festival, burning, raping, beheading and mutilating them, as well as the kidnapping of 250 men, women and children—it promptly went viral. The film titled “The 2,000 Exiled Jewish Children,” which is set to premiere by the end of 2024, recounts the story of children who were taken from their homes and exiled to the island of Sao Tome on the African coast. Following a year on the island, only 600 of them survived.

May 23, 2024, 6:53 PM (GMT+3) INN – (JNS) There has been widespread outrage over the decision by the International Criminal Court prosecutor to request arrest warrants for Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and its minister of defense, Yoav Gallant, on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
U.S. President Joe Biden called it “outrageous.” British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said it was “a deeply unhelpful development” and that the ICC prosecutor, who also requested arrest warrants for the leaders of Hamas, was wrong to draw a moral equivalence between Israel and the terrorist group.
However, Britain’s Labour Party, which is widely expected to win power at the general election that has been called for July 4, backed the prosecutor’s move.
This outright hostility was a marked change from Labour’s previous cautious support for Israel’s attempt to destroy Hamas. Many have assumed that the party is running scared of Muslim voters, who have emerged as a significant bloc demanding anti-Israel and Islamic policies as the price of Muslim electoral support.
Hostility to Israel, however, goes far wider and deeper than this.
The ICC prosecutor, Karim Khan, is a British lawyer from a barristers’ set in London that deals with common law issues such as personal injury and employment law.
Khan drew upon the opinion of a panel of mostly British human-rights lawyers he had appointed to advise him, and whom he used as a human shield for his absurd claim that Israel had been starving Gaza’s civilians, willfully killing them and obstructing delivery of humanitarian aid.
These lawyers were described by the prosecutor as “impartial.” However, they were anything but. Some had associations with Palestinian Arab causes; others had previously expressed often virulent anti-Israel views.
One member of this panel was the lawyer Baroness Helena Kennedy, a longtime radical-left campaigner and honorary patron of the London-based charity, Medical Aid for Palestinians.
Three weeks after the Oct. 7 pogrom, Kennedy warned against “collective punishment” by Israel, referred to the Gaza Strip as “being reduced to rubble” and accused Israel of cutting off Gaza’s water supplies.
But her most disgusting statement was in a speech she made on genocide in March. She told the House of Lords: “The current conflict between Hamas and Israel follows decades of terrible conduct, by both the IDF and Hamas, before, during and after 7 October.”
So in the view of this doyenne of “human rights,” Israeli soldiers who desperately tried to fight off the Hamas stormtroopers, even while they were continuing to perpetrate depraved atrocities against Israeli women, children and men, were guilty of “terrible conduct” in doing so.

An eyewitness told Nius that “the noise could be heard in the prayer room” of the synagogue. Meanwhile, they attacked the Holocaust memorial in Moabit (Berlin). There was a synagogue where today the memorial commemorates the Nazi murders. It survived the pogrom of 1938. Tens of thousands of people spent their last nights in Berlin here before being deported to concentration and extermination camps loaded onto freight wagons like cattle for slaughter. My critics will say…so stop reading so much. But I can’t help myself, because as a writer, it is my duty to save the world, starting with Israel.
So, here’s a secret, which I now reveal for the first time in the history of journalism and literature. So here goes: Every writer thinks he is special and that his sayings are unique. Every writer thinks he has the answer. We all think that our latest book, our latest op-ed will solve everything.
The world will bestow us with garlands, gratitudes, and prizes, because at last the final word has been written. No more writing needs to be done.
Out goes every newspaper, every website. We have made them all obsolete.
Until, we wake up in the morning to discover that we hardly made a splash. As I often say, NOBODY CARES. Worse, our accusers take turns ripping us to shreds.
We have accomplished nothing. Recall F. Scott Fitzgerald’s lament, “Why all this writing? Nobody reads me.”
So we start all over again, because this time…maybe THIS TIME…
What we do, then, is go back to reading to decide what position to take, which makes sense, except that nothing makes sense. All is confusion, paradox and contradiction.
Thus, a few days ago, Israel’s defense minister, Yoav Gallant, met with US officials and bought the [Democrat] party message hook, line and sinker, saying that after the dust has settled, Israel should not re-take Gaza, but rather hand it back to the Arabs, suggesting that Mahmoud Abbas and his Palestinian Authority would be an excellent choice.
This was met with howls of…are you nuts?
Truly, strange things happen when Israeli leaders meet Blinken and others of that sort…and remember, this is supposed to be a right-wing government.
Until it isn’t.
So why are we fighting…for the benefit of Abbas and his terrorists? The IDF heroes, risking life and limb, deserve better.
At a time when Israel is being pummeled from all sides, Israeli leaders need to get their act together and speak in a single Churchillian voice. Clarity please when the ICC casts a dark shadow over Netanyahu and the Jewish State, and when Ireland, Spain and Norway take the side of terrorists by agreeing to recognize a “Palestinian” state.
Lest we forget that moment of silence for the butcher of Tehran.
Meanwhile, the war goes on, and we learn that only about a third of the Hamas terrorists have been eliminated, while newly-minted Nazis riot on street and campus.
Wobbly won’t do in the face of all this.
Entering the flare-up was Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who smoked out Gallant with mockery, saying that Israel will never trade Hamas-land for Fatah-land.
Sanity at last.
Or so you thought…until Netanyahu appeared on CNN to reverse himself, insisting that Israel has no plan to re-take Gaza.
Rather, it should be governed by the PA, plus an assortment of international troops.
Bottom Line…same old story. Nothing has been learned.

“The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is committed to spreading degenerate values abroad. With Russia seemingly making major gains against NATO-backed Ukrainian forces in Eastern Ukraine, NATO leaders have been engaging in bizarre virtue signaling to divert attention away from the abject failure of this proxy war against Russia.
“Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 24, 2022, NATO Secretary Jens Stoltenberg has been particularly vocal about NATO’s values and why it’s an institution that has to be trusted despite its long track record of causing instability abroad — from Serbia all the way to Libya.”
On Friday, May 17, Stoltenberg, reaffirmed NATO’s commitment to LGBTQ+ values by arrogantly proclaiming in a post to X the current Western value system and what it is based upon:
Nino reminds us of why NATO was founded in the first place, in the wake of World War II in 1949. It was to counter the Soviet Union’s influence on the European continent.

This is written backwards, so that he can read it every time he looks in the mirror. It is his purpose. It tells him who he is.
Because a human epidermis only has so much square footage, Leonard has to be ruthless about retaining only the information that serves his purpose, resigning the rest to the abyss. But the twist of Memento, when it comes, reveals more than the limits of a life defined by a quest for vengeance that will be forgotten as soon as it is achieved; it reminds us that memory can be treacherous, that history is narrative, and that sometimes, in the single-minded pursuit of justice, we do things we’d rather forget.
I was reminded of the film while reading Morning After the Revolution, the new book by journalist Nellie Bowles. Described as “a moment of collective psychosis preserved in amber”, it is a look back at the social justice movement which had been simmering under the surface of American society since roughly 2014, then exploded into a reckoning four years ago tomorrow, when George Floyd was murdered by police in Minneapolis. The book is, among other things, a historical record — one that the movement in question would definitely not choose to permanently inscribe on its skin. The fact that Bowles used to be a New York Times writer and card-carrying member of the woke crowd herself makes her account at once more credible to the reader and less convenient to its subjects.

- The Biden administration handed over Afghanistan to a terrorist group, the Taliban; now it looks as if the Biden administration and these three racist countries in Europe are determined to hand Gaza to another terrorist group, Iran’s proxy, Hamas, which openly says it is more committed than ever to destroying its free, democratic neighbor, Israel.
- Israel is trying to protect its citizens and maintain its sovereignty in the face of relentless aggression, while battling not only Hamas but also two illegitimate antisemitic courts (the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice), the antisemitic United Nations, antisemitic European countries, well-funded antisemitic demonstrations in the West, and the Biden administration… [which] for years has been trying to force out Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
- The US would doubtless prefer an Israeli prime minister who would allow Hamas to remain in control of Gaza and reconstitute its military capabilities; who would allow the creation of a terrorist Palestinian state bordering Israel, and who would stand aside as genocidal Iran obtains nuclear weapons.
- In addition, the Communist Chinese regime, seeing the Biden administration reward aggression, past, present, and presumably future, is encircling the Philippines and Taiwan and sending tens of thousands of young men of military age in packs across America’s southern border, and more than 5,000 over its northern one.
