~ Low pressure sent the smoke southward from rash of wildfires in eastern Canada.
Poor air quality continues to plague parts of the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley from thick wildfire smoke that was sent southward into those regions from Canada.
Here’s where the worst air quality is right now. Unhealthy to very unhealthy air is blanketing the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley this morning, as the data in map below from airnow.gov shows.
That includes Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh and St. Louis.

Here’s the latest smoke forecast. Forecast model data shows that surface-based smoke could contribute to poor air quality much of today from the upper Mississippi Valley, southern Great Lakes and Ohio Valley to possibly as far east as portions of the mid-Atlantic.
Thursday, dense smoke may persist over the eastern Great Lakes into much of the interior Northeast from Virginia and West Virginia to Pennsylvania, New York state, Ohio and at least eastern Michigan. Some improvement in air quality is possible a bit farther west over Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa.
Additional improved air quality is expected Friday in the Midwest and eventually in the interior Northeast, though smoke could linger much of the day in parts of western, central and upstate New York.
How to know what air quality levels are bad. Air quality levels can top 300, but anything over 100 can start causing issues for people more at risk, like those with asthma or lung disease, children and the elderly.
Air quality levels over 150 can start causing problems even for healthy people.
Levels over 200 are considered “very unhealthy” and start exacerbating health issues in all people.
Once levels top 300 they are considered “hazardous” to everyone.
Wildfire smoke contains tiny pollutants known as particle matter (PM 2.5) that can get into your lungs and bloodstream once inhaled.

Jun. 27, 2023 9:40 pm – Unusual Canadian wildfires have once again caused several US cities to have some of the worst air quality in the world.
According to World Air Quality Index, Chicago’s air quality reached unhealthy levels on Tuesday and replaced Beijing as the worst air quality in the world.
The smoke entered Chicago early Tuesday morning and hasn’t left the Windy City since.

[Ed.: Today (Sunday 6/25/23) we had a nice warm sunny day. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, even though the sky was not blue, it was milky white. Suddenly, this afternoon we had ‘a hailstorm’ / ‘Thunderstorm’ / Tornado whose path covered several states. The hail also hit, but the 1/2 inch to 1 inch pieces of hail were not God’s ice! (Only the Devil himself could freeze ice on a warm sunny day, right?) They were possessed-man-made nucleated ice made with chemicals. (See below.) Our house barely missed the direct path of a man-made tornado! Who authorized the DoD (Department of Defense) to attack me with their weather manipulation (at my expense/tax dollars)? If my house was destroyed, could I / would I sue them??]
