FEMA Abandons Devastated NC Town Residents — ‘Nobody’s Been Bringing in Supplies Except Civilians’ After Agency Refuses to Drive Around ‘Road Closed’ Sign By Jim Hᴏft

Oct. 6, 2024 2:00 pm – In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s wrath, residents of the tiny town of Bat Cave, North Carolina, are facing a devastating reality — they’ve been left to fend for themselves.

FEMA, the federal agency tasked with disaster relief, has all but abandoned the community, citing a “road closed” sign as the reason for their absence.

As the town continues to pick up the pieces, it’s clear that this is yet another example of Biden’s government failure, and local residents are none too pleased.

Chelsea Atkins, 38, a health researcher originally from Buffalo, NY, shared her frustration with FEMA’s incompetence in an interview with the New York Post.

“FEMA called me and told me they wanted to inspect my house, then called me back to say they couldn’t drive around the ‘road closed’ sign. They weren’t allowed,” she told The Post.

“You can drive it by car for sure, it’s not that bad, you just have to drive around the ‘road closed’ sign. I explained that to them. They said they couldn’t.”

Take note that it is the very same road The Post successfully traversed on its way to Bat Cave.

“FEMA hasn’t been here,” Atkins said, adding, “It’s been a civilian-run operation since day one. You can’t ask the authorities for help — they’ll say you need to leave.”

“We’re handling it. Leave it to us and we’ll get it covered.”

While FEMA sits on the sidelines, the resilient residents of Bat Cave have taken matters into their own hands.

Apple orchard workers and local contractors armed with chainsaws have worked tirelessly to clear the roads and begin rebuilding their shattered community.

Even before the Department of Transportation arrived to lend a hand, these civilians had already cleared a path for recovery, according to The Post.

“This has been a civilian-run operation since day one,” Atkins said. “Nobody’s been bringing in supplies except civilians.”

Meanwhile, military helicopters buzz over the town, a cruel reminder that help is being sent elsewhere, but not to Bat Cave. Residents, however, don’t seem to mind FEMA’s absence anymore.

As the community bands together to rebuild without federal interference, they’ve grown increasingly wary of what the agency’s late arrival might mean.

“At this point, I don’t care if FEMA comes by. I don’t want somebody to pull me out of here, saying I’m working in an unsafe spot,” said Curtis McCart, a retired Los Angeles fire department captain and paramedic.

The New York Post reported:

While the sick and elderly residents of Bat Cave were airlifted to safety a week ago, those left behind have seen virtually no sign of government agencies, save for a handful of Louisiana State Police troopers “keeping an eye on everything,” who locals say haven’t done much of anything.

The few remaining locals have scavenged building supplies to shore up homes teetering on the edge of the Broad River, which is now ten times wider than it was before Helene carved its path of destruction.

The town itself has been ripped in half — a 15-foot segment of bridge connecting the two halves of the town was destroyed. Though the gap is now spanned with pieces of sheet metal, it can’t support a car’s weight, forcing residents to traverse the span exclusively on foot.

The Broad River was only 10 yards wide in front of McCart’s home before the hurricane. Now it’s a 100-yard-wide riverbed strewn with trees, concrete slabs, twisted tin and powerlines with their transformers still connected.

This level of incompetence is not new for FEMA. This is the same agency that threatened to arrest civilians and block any humanitarian efforts by volunteers who sought to step in where the federal government has failed.

The irony is thick — FEMA, who couldn’t bother to drive around a road sign, has previously claimed the authority to stop locals from helping each other, essentially blocking life-saving civilian efforts in past disasters.

Untold potential for riches are there for the taking in the mountains of Appalachia. The Americans living in the mountains are the only barrier. Murder always happens for a reason.

It is no less than mass murder. Reports of a complete absence of state or federal assistance in the devastated areas hit by Hurricane Helene are now crowding the social media airwaves. Bodies floating down the rivers. Bodies hanging in trees. Tangled in piles of debris. Utility company linemen are the first into most of the demolished areas. Help is not coming

State and federal authorities have not been on site for the first week or so after the storm dropped like a bomb. There is no update on the number of dead, missing, and rescue of those who have survived other than local accounts. A report out of Asheville, the largest flooded out community in North Carolina, says some FEMA workers have just arrived with porta potties for the local inundated hospital which is still without any electricity or any water. Volunteers, community members, and now some aid workers beginning to trickle in are bringing the dead to the privately owned Mission hospital in Asheville, which is now designated the place to bring bodies in the region. FEMA is quoted as saying they are too tied up at the border and won’t be sending refrigerator trucks for body storage. FEMA also was overheard saying “add a couple zeros” to whatever the body count is right now…One local report on X cites reports of over 900 bodies already at the hospital that haven’t been identified.

A report out of Chimney Rock, NC said a ‘government official’ has told residents at a town meeting that the federal government is seizing land, and the entire area will be bulldozed–bodies, still-standing buildings, and all. One local pastor was going door to door with water, and found there were so many bodies that they changed their delivery request to body bags. “They are not picking up the bodies. They don’t wanna identify the bodies and they’re just leaving them to rot in the streets.” And “Something evil is going on in the NC mountains.”

The disaster region needs pilots with planes, helicopters, people with big equipment and trucks. The 82^nd airborne is still not ordered to participate in the rescue, their Apache helicopters are on the ground waiting for Title 10–the emergency order that is required to activate the 82^nd airborne.

FEMA is AWOL

The federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is AWOL. The few FEMA representatives trickling in a week after disaster struck are actively disrupting volunteer efforts. Emergency supplies are being taken from volunteers and locked up, FEMA directs survivors to use nonexistent internet or telephones, and some state and federal officials are threatening volunteers and survivors with arrest. Federal relief is reported to be loans—and the contracts required state if funds are not paid back on time all property may be seized.

Unverified reports state North Carolina police have now issued a statement that they will start arresting any federal employees trying to stop or hinder rescue operations, have been debunked.

Survivors of the hurricane and the floods are still without power more than a week after the storm and the rains–there is no date for restoration in sight. Food and water are running out or gone and small communities are still cut off.

Dehydrated and starving people have been abandoned

Dehydrated and starving people with no cell phones or other means of communication have been abandoned. A Brannon Howse media interview with the nonprofit Aerial Recovery organization confirmed the federal government absence and further confirmed that they were told not to conduct search, rescue, and recovery work in both Lake Lure and Chimney Rock when they arrived with former special forces volunteers, equipment, chain saws. The volunteer rescue crew were stopped and ordered to leave by the local police.

Elon Musk posted a video of the devastation filmed by some of his Space X engineers flying into North Carolina to deliver Starlink terminals and supplies. Musk said “my blood is boiling” because FEMA would not let the Musk company helicopter land to deliver the critical supplies.

Columnist Leo Hohmann reminds us that this region of the US is Trump country:

If your house is destroyed and you are literally trying to survive in an atmosphere with little or no food, water and shelter, and your cell service is out, will you be thinking about voting? What if you are fine but you haven’t heard from a family member since the storm hit. You are searching for them, wondering if you will find them dead or alive. Will you be thinking about voting? I don’t think so. So, we have to wonder if this is not only a humanitarian tragedy being left unattended by the federal government but whether it may also be a concentrated voter suppression effort.

Most recently the Biden-Harris administration has announced release of $750 per person in FEMA funds for hurricane victims. Colonel Douglas Macgregor exposed to Tucker Carlson that illegal immigrants coming over the border are being given $2200 per month. FEMA has been transformed into emergency aid for illegal immigrants, paid for by US taxpayers.

Infrastructure is another critical survival matter that is suddenly in short supply. In our last column we documented the ILA (International Longshoremen’s Association) strike that started over the weekend. Docks across the Eastern Seaboard and the Gulf are closed. Steel, heavy equipment, building supplies, and replacement parts for everything from rescue equipment to heavy electrical transformers come in by boat.

The regional electrical grid has 360 substations out of commission

There is a massive shortage of transformers in the US, with wait times for replacements of up to five years. So those heavy transformers knocked out by the hurricane are not going to be replaced any time soon. North Carolina has over 360 substations out of commission in its Western region.

As of October 4, the striking ILA port workers are returning to work until mid-January after negotiations settled on a wages agreement. But the high voltage transformer shortage will not be remedied anytime soon.

January of 2024, the federal government transferred two high voltage power transformers to Ukraine to “enhance the reliability of Ukraine’s Integrated Power System and ensure its maintenance during this and following winters.” This was done despite the shortage of that equipment to ensure US electrical grid reliability. Now we are without the back up supply of transformers needed to repair the grid in the damaged part of Western North Carolina.

North Carolina lawmaker Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-N.C.) reported:

“The flooding provides a unique challenge not previously faced by substations in Western North Carolina…There is a high likelihood that the substations are not repairable, and replacement of the substation equipment will be necessary.”

Latitude Media, covering energy news, reported:

Many substations [in Western NC] are reportedly completely flooded, leaving Duke Energy, the investor-owned utility that serves the region, unable to accurately assess the damage until the waters recede and the bulky equipment can be dried.

Replacement, however, is a tall order. The disaster is coming in the midst of a shortage of electrical equipment, and especially of the transformers that substations use to switch power voltage from direct current to alternating current, or vice versa.

As electricity demand across the U.S. increases, so does demand for the equipment that renewable projects, electric vehicle chargers, and countless other things depend upon. And manufacturers are already at capacity — and expanding it further is made challenging by a tight labor market. Transformer prices have risen over 60% since 2020.

The idea that some of the lightly populated region of the heavily forested mountain region of North Carolina might not be rebuilt begins to make a diabolical kind of sense.

The United States used to know how to do rescue. I wrote about traditional American rescue activities and contrasted them with the lack of assistance during the Maui/Lahaina “wildfire.” That signaled a blatant, unhidden disregard for the fundamental decency and traditions and values of Western Civilization:

Americans know what to do when disasters hit. We have been doing rescue, survival, and restoration for as long as we have had communities, from the first small outposts dotting the East Coast to the spread and growth of towns and cities across this amazing land.

We know how to “do” rescue. Many of us learned in our youth, during Scouts or other volunteer organizations. Many of us have served in the armed forces, as EMTs or police, or as a member of volunteer fire departments, or we have had training in CPR and first aid. My father was a member of the ski patrol in its infancy, in New York State. Now, most communities and certainly most regions have established Red Cross offices.

Rescue begins when an alarm goes up. There is a fire, a tornado, a hurricane, a flood, or some other disaster. People gather to help stem the damage, set up a central meeting place, start keeping a list of survivors (and those lost), gather supplies to sustain everyone, comfort the stricken, and start the clean-up and the restoration. Temporary housing is arranged, care for children is established, and the beginnings of a return to normalcy occur amidst the comforting of those who have been through the traumatic experience and loss of family, friends, community, and home.

Rescue is not coming—What is being done?

This is not your Granddaddy’s rescue anymore. The burning question is why?

“Never let a serious crisis go to waste” was known as Rahm’s rule. Rahm Emanual was chief of staff to President-elect Barack Obama, when he issued that famous declaration. So, we ask what can be done with this massive disaster?

We have touched upon the first action—condemn the lightly populated portions of North Carolina including the damaged electrical infrastructure meant to service the area. Suddenly the need for transformers is lessened.

But eliminating the need to replace key electrical grid infrastructure is only the beginning. There is so much more benefit to be gained by emptying these mountains of the American citizens who have lived and worked there.

Lithium in the Mountain Mines and the Department of Defense Wants It

Some of the richest lithium sources in the world are located in Western North Carolina. Two lithium mines already exist in the mountainous region of Western North Carolina. Albemarle Kings Mountain, is one mining operation and is touted as one of the world’s most advanced lithium material sites. They describe their mining as a lithium ecosystem:

Hurricane Update 2: North Carolina SARAH WESTALL

OCT 04, 2024 – A continual stream of disturbing information is coming out of North Carolina. One of my affiliates lives in the mountains of North Carolina and is traumatized after seeing a dead infant in a tree today. I am being told there are dead bodies in streams, trees, homes and roads.

Reports that FEMA is confiscating emergency food supplies from churches and from transport trucks because its from “non-approved” sources is coming in from many reliable sources.

More disturbing reports are coming in that there are lucrative lithium deposits in the region and the Federal government is intent on clearing the area for mining. Perhaps it explains what Chris Martenson was told recently by one of his members in the post below.

Fox news (i.e. mainstream media) has posted a report claiming that “bodies everywhere” is false. Perhaps “everywhere” is not true. Its more accurate to say in some areas. Its a matter of perspective. Fox news also claims that Martenson’s claims below is false. Time will tell if Martenson’s post is accurate or not. Actions will speak louder than words as time passes. Lets pay attention to their actions and hold them accountable.

One pastor of a local church was going to order to door delivering water and they changed their delivery request to body bags because so many of the homes that they’ve gone to have needed body bags, we’re trying to keep the body count. They’re not picking up the bodies. They don’t wanna identify the bodies and they’re just leaving them to rot in the streets.

The federal government’s disaster response agency doesn’t have enough money to help Americans left in distress by Hurricane Helene after blowing billions on illegal migrants.

Over the last two years, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has handed out more than $1 billion taxpayer dollars to specifically support illegal migrants with housing.

But now there’s no money to help out the 150,000 American citizens who have reached out for federal assistance after their homes were damaged by Hurricane Helene.

‘FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season,’ Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas admitted on Wednesday.

Only last week, Congress passed a funding bill for an additional $20 billion for the anticipated hurricane season.

But it won’t be enough after Hurricane Helene ripped through Appalachia and the south killing nearly 200 Americans – with additional storms on the horizon.

And that is triggering lawmakers who are baffled after the taxpayer-funded agency pumped billions into nonprofits supporting illegal migrants.

FEMA was given $640 million to support migrants in the 2024 fiscal year – and outrage is mounting that the agency is refusing to re-allocate those funds to disaster relief for Americans.

‘Mayorkas and FEMA — immediately stop spending money on illegal immigration resettlement and redirect those funds to areas hit by the hurricane,’ Texas Gov. Greg Abbott posted on X.

‘Put Americans first.’

‘WTF!’ Donald Trump Jr. wrote on X in response to a report about FEMA running out of money.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody also ripped the federal department for prioritizing migrants ahead of Americans.

‘They have taken the FEMA emergency food and shelter program and over time siphoned off hundreds of millions of dollars into basically making it an illegal immigrant resettlement program,’ she said Thursday.

Mayorkas was impeached by the House of Representatives earlier this year for his handling of the U.S.-Mexico, where lawmakers say over 10 million migrants have been encountered by authorities under his tenure, a record number.

Many Republicans, and a select few Democrats, have openly criticized his leadership of DHS and have said he is more focused on facilitating migrants entering the U.S. than enforcing laws to restrict the flow of illegal immigration.

This is evident in the 2023 creation of FEMA’s non-citizen-only Shelter and Service Program (SSP).

‘The Shelter and Services Program (SSP) provides funds to state, local, tribal, and nonprofit organizations to support sheltering and other eligible activities, including facility improvements, to support noncitizen migrants who have been encountered and released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS),’ according to the DHS website.

The program to provide shelters for non-citizens has received over $1 billion in funding since its inception two years ago.

Its budget nearly doubled from $363.8 million in 2023 to $650 million 2024.

There has been no indication that this money earmarked for migrants will help Americans in dire straights as a result of Hurricane Helene.

‘We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have,’ Mayorkas said Wednesday. ‘We are expecting another hurricane hitting.’

‘Mayorkas says FEMA doesn’t have enough money to make it through hurricane season, but apparently it had enough to spend $1B resettling illegal aliens into the U.S. over the past few years,’ Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., wrote in a statement Thursday.

‘That’s the Biden/Harris admin summed up in a nutshell. They put Americans last, always.’

Iowa Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson posted on X: ‘FEMA shouldn’t be able to spend taxpayer funds to support illegal immigrants & perpetuate the border crisis created by Biden & Harris.’

‘The agency should be solely focused on disaster relief & keeping Americans safe. Harris & Biden always put illegals over Americans.’

There are at least 600 to 750 people still missing following the flooding and hurricane damage.

Oct. 1, 2024 7:30 am – Authorities in Florida have warned that electric cars flooded with salt water from Hurricane Helene have the potential to explode.

The warning comes as saltwater has flooded many streets in Florida after Hurricane Helene caused significant flooding throughout the state.

In a social media post, Pinellas County officials warned, “Electric Vehicles that have been flooded in saltwater can catch fire.”

The warning continued, “If you evacuated and left an electric vehicle or golf cart in your garage or under a building and you are not able to get to it or move it, we want you to let us know.”

The county then posted a video of an electric car that appeared to be impacted by saltwater catching fire in a garage.

Vice President Kamala Harris spent the weekend campaigning and raising money on the West Coast, hosting high-dollar fundraisers and rallies in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas.

After some blowback, her team then released a Veep-like PR photo Monday on X, showcasing Harris on her plane (with unplugged headphones and blank pieces of paper in front of her), cosplaying a leader who is managing the Helene response.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, despite being the senior infrastructure guy in the Cabinet, is once more nowhere to be found. His public schedule has not been updated since mid-August. Instead of focusing on assisting Helene victims, he is reportedly helping Tim Walz with debate prep for the upcoming vice presidential debate on Tuesday evening. Instead of assisting with disaster relief, “Mayor Pete” is in Minnesota with Tim Walz.

DHS chief Alejandro Mayorkas, who presides over FEMA, is also nowhere to be found. When Helene reached American territory, he was in California, hosting an awards ceremony for the U.S. Secret Service.

Instead of assisting with disaster relief efforts, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland was in Washington, D.C., Monday to celebrate the Olympic teams at the White House.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is in Italy meeting with the G7 nations, discussing how to impose stringent climate change policies upon humanity.

The EPA Administrator spent last week in New York City at an event called Climate Week NYC.

The U.S. Small Business Administrator spent the weekend in Nebraska celebrating Native American tribes.

The FEMA director is the only mildly senior-level Biden-Harris official on the ground in the disaster areas. However, she is largely doing photo ops with state governors and checking boxes.

This is the reality of an administration entirely controlled by the D.C. bureaucracy. With major swaths of the country in desperate need of federal resources, there is nobody to be held accountable for deploying assets to areas of need. The cognitively-impaired president is at the beach. The vice president couldn’t care less. And the rest of their cabinet is busy fulfilling other “duties.”

SEP 30, 2024 – I realize that articles like this are sometimes chastised for being in poor taste in the immediate aftermath of a catastrophe but rest assured, both presidential campaigns are assessing the electoral impact of the flooding disaster in Appalachia and looking to figure out if they are either safe or have been given a lifeline regarding turnout in impacted areas of the region. My mission in operating this journal is to provide you, the reader, with as much actionable information as possible and in a timely manner.

Margo Ackiss, a major America First supporter and Republican near the disaster zone in North Carolina, provided me with relevant maps and information to help make this assessment, which I shared with her, and she is passing them forward where appropriate.

The above map, from poweroutage.us, provides running estimates of how many households or facilities are without power, and that is current as of yesterday morning. I used it to create an arbitrary map with three grades of severity, shown below:

Political Breakdown

First and foremost, let it be understood that I wish for disaster relief to be successful for all impacted regardless of political persuasion, and I wish for all impacted to have equal access to the ballot for the coming election. Familiarize yourself with how I assess counties and their trends before proceeding.

I count 29 impacted counties out of 100 in North Carolina. There are:

· 25 Crimson Trend (Trump-Inclined) Counties – Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cherokee, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Surry, Swain, Wilkes, Yancey

· 2 Republican Trend (Trump-Won) Counties – Henderson, Transylvania

· 2 Competitive Trend (Likely Harris-Won) Counties – Buncombe, Watauga

I have predicted in My 2024 North Carolina 100 County Trend Forecast, a pessimistic outlook carrying forward 2020 conditions (not necessarily likely to occur), that these counties are on pace to deliver roughly 1,108,717 votes collectively, with these five leading the way:

Buncombe – 178,142; Democrat stronghold and home to Asheville

Gaston – 128,006; Republican Trump (Crimson) stronghold west of Charlotte; likely the western portion impacted more than the suburban portion

Henderson – 75,412; Republican tier county south of Buncombe

Lincoln – 56,524; Republican Trump (Crimson) stronghold northwest of Charlotte; likely western portion

Cleveland – 55,510; Republican Trump (Crimson) stronghold in eastern flank of critical damage zone along South Carolina border

Electorally speaking, it is to Harris’s advantage if voting in these 29 counties was completely impossible to facilitate, even if it costs her Buncombe County’s margin. The only other county she would likely win, Watauga – home to Appalachian State University, is worth little in margin. Those two counties stand to net her another 9,726 in margin over Biden’s 2020 numbers in my pessimistic outlook. She is likely to gain less than 1,000 (763 in my figures) in margin in Henderson and Transylvania if they continue to inch away from Trump, though he will win both.

In the 25 Crimson counties in the operational picture, Trump stands to gain about 56,810 in margin on the low end, perhaps closer to 75,000 if mail ballot requests and Democrat enthusiasm (low) continue as they appear to be moving.

Trump gaining a net of 46,321 in the impacted region is enough to roughly cancel off Mecklenburg (Charlotte) or Wake (Raleigh) Counties if they manage to sprout equal margin gain as they did in 2020, which once again isn’t necessarily likely. A Harris win in North Carolina requires subpar Trump margins in the rural areas, including the Mountains Region, which is among the Trumpiest regions in America.

1. Thanks to what I just laid out, expect relief and ballot access options to be slow rolled by the Democrat governor, Roy Cooper, and the Biden-Harris regime.

2. North Carolina stands as a critical takeaway opportunity for Harris given her weakness in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

3. Disaster relief must run hand in hand with getting on the ball with facilitating an election in this region – and not allowing for relief focus to be only on Buncombe County, which is likely what Cooper-Harris will attempt.

4. The ten most critical Trump counties for margin gain are:

The Southeastern United States was plunged into devastation after Category 4 Hurricane Helene, the strongest hurricane to ever strike Florida’s Big Bend region, unleashed catastrophic destruction across six states.

Helene’s ferocious winds and torrential rains have claimed at least 95 lives, left millions without power, and trapped countless families in floodwaters, particularly in North Carolina, where entire communities have been cut off from vital resources.

In Georgia, 17 lives were lost, two of them victims of a tornado that swept through Alamo. In Florida, 11 fatalities have been confirmed, with many occurring in Pinellas County, where flash floods overtook entire neighborhoods.

Tennessee and Virginia have also reported deaths, with four in Tennessee and two in Virginia, as rescue operations remain ongoing.
