Terrorist On Murderous Rampage Kills 7, Injures Others in Shooting at Jerusalem Synagogue   By Margaret Flavin

January 27, 2023 at 5:20pm – As the Jewish Sabbath was just underway, a terrorist on a murderous rampage killed 7 and injured others in a shooting outside a synagogue in Jerusalem Friday night.  The attacker, alleged to be a 21-year-old Palestinian man from East Jerusalem,  was killed by police while trying to escape.

A 14-year-old boy is among the fatalities.

Police said the attack was one of the worst Israel has seen in years. A police spokesman shared, “The attacker is a resident of East Jerusalem. We are completing operations at the scene. Right now, unfortunately, we are talking about seven people killed and another three seriously wounded.”

ANTIFA IS COMING TO ISRAEL   by Douglas Altabef

January 26, 2023 – Opposition to proposed judicial reform is being reduced to senseless calls for “disruption” instead of debate.

(JNS) In the summer of 2020 Israelis, along with most of the world, watched with shock and horror as riots erupted across the United States following the death of George Floyd. Masked protesters burned shops, destroyed government buildings and, most chillingly, destroyed manifestations of national memory and history by pulling down statues of “dead white men.”

The sense of anarchy running amok was chilling, as was the unwillingness to confront it. These were scenes of entitlement and a complete disdain for the rule of law.

Fast forward two-and-a-half years, and there are increasing signs that something like that kind of “rules be damned” violence could be coming to Israel.

If it’s up to the likes of former Meretz MK and one-time IDF Deputy Chief of Staff Yair Golan, that is what we are likely to face.

Golan, who infamously likened Israel’s behavior to the Nazis in a Holocaust Remembrance Day address, has thrown down the gauntlet before the reality that there is a new government in Israel.

A month ago, Golan advocated protests in a manner that implicitly contained the threat of violence: “The people should express their protest and if we need to create a significant disruption in lifestyles to explain that things are not going our way, we will do it. There are enough good and dedicated citizens here who want rule of law.”

This is an Orwellian statement. The claim that a “significant disruption in lifestyles” reflects an aspiration for the “rule of law” is classic doublespeak.

Juniper Oak, the JCPOA and ‘Zero Surprises’   Caroline Glick

The Biden administration remains committed to a policy that will empower Iran militarily, economically and diplomatically against Israel and the Sunni Arabs.Op-ed.

Jan 27, 2023, 11:36 AM (GMT+2) – (JNS) The Iranian revolutionaries plod into the fifth month of their uprising against the regime with little tangible help from the outside world. To date, more than 500 Iranian revolutionaries have been killed by regime forces directed by the Revolutionary Guard Corps. More than 18,000 have been arrested.

So too, unfettered by restrictions on its nuclear activities enacted under the long-abandoned 2015 nuclear deal, the ayatollahs continue spinning their advanced centrifuges and stockpiling enriched uranium.

After providing Russia with drones that have caused mass death and destruction of property in Ukraine, Iran is waiting in anticipation of advanced Russian fighter craft, which will enable Tehran to modernize its conventional forces for the first time since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

In all the darkness, for a few days this week, there was a glimmer of hope that something may be changing in the way the Biden administration is looking at the situation.

On Monday, U.S. Central Command and the Israel Defense Forces launched their largest joint exercise ever. Some 6,400 U.S. military personnel and 1,180 IDF troops participated in Juniper Oak 2023. A hundred U.S. aircraft and six ships including a carrier group participated in the exercise along with six Israeli naval craft and 45 aircraft.

The Israeli Left Begs the World to Protect its Power    Caroline Glick

In 2007, then-editor of Israel’s far-left Haaretz newspaper David Landau implored then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to “rape” Israel. Landau told Rice that Israel “wants to be raped by the United States” into making territorial concessions to the Palestinians.  [Emphasis added]

Landau’s statement, which was widely reported at the time, was and remains shocking. But over the past quarter-century, it has become common practice for the Israeli Left to turn to foreign governments and other international actors for help subverting democratic processes in Israel.

In 1977, Israel’s Left lost its political majority forever when working-class Israelis abandoned it for the political Right. Over the past 46 years, the Left has held power for a total of just under 13 years.

To compensate for its loss of political power, the Israeli Left expanded the power of Israel’s already powerful bureaucracy, which its members controlled. Over the past 30 years, using its control over the Supreme Court and the attorney general’s office, the Left enacted a judicial revolution that transformed the unelected justices into the most powerful arm of government, with no checks on its power or accountability to the public. Through judicial fiat, the justices and their allies in the attorney general’s office have clipped the wings of Israel’s elected leaders, and made all policies and laws dependent on their prior or retroactive approval.

Transfer of Powers Begins   by AFSI Staff

January 26, 2023 – Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has decided that the powers over the management of civilian life in Judea and Samaria will be transferred to Minister Bezalel Smotrich despite the opposition of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

According to the report, the struggle for powers in the Defense Ministry reached a climax in a heated meeting in which Netanyahu, Gallant, Smotrich, Justice Minister Yariv Levin and other senior officials participated.

Authority over military matters and matters of illegal construction by Jews and Palestinian Arabs would remain with COGAT. Since these are actions with security and policy implications, all decisions will be made subject to the Prime Minister’s oversight.

Civilian life in Judea and Samaria has been waiting for a new day to begin and we trust we can count on MK Smotrich to implement the long overdue changes needed there.

The initiative by the newly elected government to enact a far-reaching reform of the legal system is an inevitable result of the ongoing process of erosion of public trust. Op-ed.

Jan 26, 2023, 5:42 AM (GMT+2) – The initiative by the newly elected government to enact a far-reaching reform of the legal system is an inevitable result of the ongoing process of erosion of public trust.

According to the University of Haifa’s annual index for public sector performance, the public’s level of trust in the Israeli judicial system is at the lowest level since the index was first published in 2001.—i24News, Nov. 6, 2018.

After a decade in which left-wing voters expressed a 44 percent confidence in the judiciary, their confidence has eroded since 2017 to 25 percent in 2020.—Haaretz, Jun. 4, 2020.

Today, Israel is engulfed in a tumultuous public dispute in the titanic clash between the advocates of a direly needed reform of the country’s system of law enforcement on the one hand, and its increasingly strident opponents on the other. Waxing evermore vehement and venomous, these opponents are engaged in a desperate last-ditch effort to preserve the remaining vestiges of their waning political power, by freezing the current distorted reality that still allows them—despite their minuscule (and diminishing) electoral support—to control much of the national decision-making process in Israel today.

A litany of travesties

The arrogance and blatant double standards of the legal establishment in general, and the judiciary in particular, together with an increasing number of verdicts that fly in the face of common sense—and any commonsense perception of natural justice—have led to a steep and ongoing erosion in public confidence in the impartiality of the courts—including the Supreme Court itself. Indeed, the catalog of mystifying decisions is as long as it is disconcerting.

The following is a far from exhaustive list:

Over 30 terrorist attacks since this morning   Israel National News

30 incidents of stone-throwing, 6 Molotov Cocktails, and other attacks committed against Jews in Judea and Samaria today.

Jan 26, 2023, 5:30 PM (GMT+2) – Terrorism on the roads of Judea and Samaria is on the rise, and since this morning (Thursday), at least 30 stone throwing attacks, six Molotov Cocktail attacks, and a number of other attacks have been committed against Israelis.

Several Jewish vehicles were stoned on the road between Tapuach and Ariel, one after the other. One person was lightly injured. Near Yakir, two vehicles and a bus were stoned.

In the village of Huwara, where there has been a significant jump in terrorist attacks in recent weeks, four incidents have taken place since the morning hours, including the throwing of stones and burning tires.

In one incident a barrier of burning tires was set up across a road.

‘We’re preparing IAF pilots for difficult wartime scenarios’   BY YAAKOV LAPPIN

The commander of the Joint Forces Section of the Israel Air Force’s “Red Squadron,” which simulates the enemy, talks with JNS about the air force’s “Staging Threat” exercise.

(January 25, 2023 / JNS) The Israel Air Force is training its helicopter pilots to deal with extreme scenarios not only at the operational level but also at the cognitive level, according to IAF Maj. L.

On Jan. 22, the IAF launched its “Staging Threat” exercise for helicopter squadrons. The exercise, which will run to Jan. 26, is being led by the IAF’s “Red Squadron”—Squadron 115— which simulates the enemy and is based out of Uvda Air Force Base in southern Israel.

The exercise subjects helicopter crews to extreme situations, and tests their response to mission-failure scenarios.

According to Maj. L, who commands the Joint Forces Section of “Red Squadron,” the Middle Eastern combat theater is constantly evolving.

“We understand that the enemy is learning, is upgrading itself and acquiring capabilities from day to day in the Middle East,” he said, adding, “We have to constantly challenge ourselves.”

The Ukraine war starts to undermine Israeli security   Jonathan Tobin

The U.S. military is reportedly supplying Ukraine with artillery rounds pulled from stockpiles based in Israel.

The U.S. decision to strip arms stockpiles stored in the Jewish state to resupply Kiev’s forces in its deadlocked fight with Moscow is a gamechanger. Why is no one protesting?

For the last 11 months, Israel has sought to signal its opposition to Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine while avoiding being dragged into a war that compromises its own security and interests. Threading that needle has been a difficult task, but it was an issue on which both Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his main political foe—Yesh Atid Party leader Yair Lapid—have been in agreement.

Nevertheless, Israel is now being made to pay a steep price for the war. The news, broken last week by The New York Times, that the U.S. is emptying the strategic reserve of arms and ammunition it has stored in Israel for Middle East emergencies, as well as for the Jewish state to draw on in the event of its being attacked, marks a turning point.

Netanyahu, Gallant observe Juniper Oak joint exercise with US military

“Israel welcomes the deepening cooperation with our greatest ally,” said the prime minister.

(January 25, 2023 / JNS) Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant visited the Israel Air Force control center on Wednesday to observe the joint Juniper Oak exercise taking place with the U.S. military.

“This exercise expresses the unshakeable strategic partnership between Israel and the U.S., and constitutes an additional stage in building up Israeli military strength. Israel will always defend itself with its own forces but—of course—welcomes the deepening cooperation with our greatest ally,” said Netanyahu.

He and Gallant were joined by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi and National Security Council Director Tzachi Hanegbi, along with other senior defense officials.

“The IDF is Israel’s shield. The strength of the IDF is what enables life in our country,” said Gallant on Wednesday. “The cooperation in the exercise, between the IDF and the U.S. military, is a welcome step that improves and adds to the capabilities of the defense establishment.”

The IDF and U.S. Central Command on Monday launched the drills, which are taking place in Israel and the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.

U.S. AND ISRAEL LAUNCH MAJOR MILITARY DRILL – A STRIKE ON IRAN MIGHT BE NEXT   [10:15]   by Phil Schneider

January 25, 2023 – Benjamin Netanyahu has spent the majority of his career arguing and convincing as many people as possible that Iran is the #1 threat that Israel AND the rest of the Western world face. It is not only Iran. It is all of radical Islam that threatens to engulf as many countries as possible in its ideas.

The sooner the United States wakes up to this reality, the less the price will be for dilly-dallying around the topic. Following World War I, America experienced an economic upswing in the 1920’s that came to a crashing end in 1929. The 30’s saw the greatest years of privation and difficulty since the tumultuous years of the Civil War. It was reasonable for Americans to look inward for solutions to their economic struggles and not be concerned with using resources to solve border disputes in Europe. After all, the Germans and French were always angry at each other about the border. Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, also had their differences. Why should America intervene? Was it worth American lives?

Well, Winston Churchill argued in the late 1930’s, before he became Prime Minister of England, that the free world had no choice. It would have to intervene or else it would be swallowed up. It took him years till he could convince FDR to actually bring America into the fray with boots on the ground and not just provide the Allies with massive economic support.

Smotrich Enables Lease for Life to “PAY FOR SLAY”   By David Bedein – Times of Israel

January 13, 2023 – This week, a news story rocked the media: The new Israel Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich cut Israel funds to the PA , commensurate with the amount of funds that the PLO grants to those who have murdered Jews and to the families of their killers

These grants are processed accordance with the PA “pay for slay” law. While it is known that the PLO pays killers, few people know that this is according to a statute of the PLO.

Smotrich stipulated that all PLO funds allocated to killers must now be allocated to the families of their victims, leaving the world with the impression that a new policy of the Israel Minister of Finance had put the “coups de grace” on the unprecedented law of the PLO which is that if you kill a Jew, you get a salary for life, and that if you die in the process of murdering a Jew, your family receives a salary for life.

However, this is hardly the end of “Pay to Slay”

Smotrich has not yet respond to key questions.

The more people who ask these questions of the government of Israel, the better.

*Why does the government of Israel not demand that the PLO repeal its “Pay for Slay” law?

*Why does the government of Israel not demand that 135 nations who finance the PLO now demand that aid to the Palestine Authority be conditional on repeal of the “Pay for Slay”?

*Will the government of Israel not issue an order to the Bank of Israel to stop processing funds for those who murder Jews?

*What punitive measures will the government of Israel take against those who forward bank funds as an gratuity for those who murder Jews?

Conclusion: Unless Israel amends his actions, Finance Minister Smotrich has granted PAY FOR SLAY a new release for life.
