Three blows against Israel, all in one week Jack Engelhard

Feb 29, 2024, 9:11 AM (GMT+2) – If this were a boxing match, the ref would count to 10, and end the fight. Or rather, he’d need only count to three.
In the real world, it begins when Blinken delivers a sucker punch by saying that the Israelis have no rights to Judea/Samaria.
He is terribly mistaken. International Law asserts that the Israelis have the same rights for Judea/Samaria as they do for Tel Aviv.
Judea/Samaria is the Heartland.
In response, ZOA’s Mort Klein puts it like this: “Blinken/Biden lie reverses US policy, violates US treaties, harms peace, and endangers Israel’s security.”
Mort calls out Biden/Blinken as being “extremist Israel-bashers.”
As if to prove the point, here comes another White House spokesperson to deny Israel its spoils on Gaza, averring that the territory must spring back to the Arabs, even Hamas.
Secretary Blinken on ‘settlements’ – vindicated by facts? Amb. (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
According to Prof. Eugene Rostow, the co-author of the November 22, 1967 UN Security Council Resolution 242: “Jews have the same right to settle in the ‘West Bank’ as they have in Haifa.” Op-ed. Amb. (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Feb 29, 2024, 12:17 PM (GMT+2) – Secretary of State Antony Blinken represents conventional wisdom when claiming that “It’s been longstanding US policy… that new settlements are… inconsistent with international law.”
However, conventional wisdom is frequently demolished by the march of facts.
For instance:
*According to Prof. Eugene Rostow, who was the co-author of the November 22, 1967 UN Security Council Resolution 242, served as Undersecretary of State and was the Dean of Yale University Law School: “Jews have the same right to settle in the ‘West Bank’ as they have in Haifa.”
“According to UN Resolution 242, Israel is required to withdraw from territories, not the territories, nor from all the territories, but some of the territories, which included Judea and Samaria (aka the ‘West Bank’), East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights. Moreover, according to Prof. Rostow, “resolutions calling for withdrawal from all the territories were defeated in the Security Council and the General Assembly…. Israel was not to be forced back to the fragile and vulnerable [9-15 mile-wide] lines… but to secure and recognized boundaries, agreed to by the parties…. In making peace with Egypt in 1979, Israel withdrew from the entire Sinai… [which amounts to] more than 90% of the territories occupied in 1967….”
*Former President of the International Court of Justice, Judge Stephen M. Schwebel, stated: “Between Israel, acting defensively in 1948 and 1967 (according to Article 52 of the UN Charter), on the one hand, and her Arab neighbors, acting aggressively in 1948 and 1967, on the other, Israel has better title in the territory of what was [British Mandate] Palestine…. It follows that modifications of the 1949 armistice lines among those States within former Palestinian territory are lawful…. [The 1967] Israeli conquest of territory was defensive rather than aggressive… [as] indicated by Egypt’s prior closure of the Straits of Tiran, blockade of the Israeli port of Eilat, and the amassing of [Egyptian] troops in Sinai, coupled with its ejection of the UN Emergency Force…[and] Jordan’s initiated hostilities against Israel…. The 1948 Arab invasion of the nascent State of Israel further demonstrated that Egypt’s seizure of the Gaza Strip, and Jordan’s seizure and subsequent annexation of the ‘West Bank’ and the old city of Jerusalem, were unlawful….”
[Ed.: ‘The settlers” in the U.S. State Department should mind their own business. They really have nothing to say about settlers in Israel, after all. This is especially so, since the ‘settlers’ in the State Department are terrorists that finance and arm Arab terrorists! These State Department ‘settler/terrorists’ are the ones who have no right to exist, after all…]
Government considering replacing AG for Draft Law case Israel National News
Cabinet ministers say that they will not use the Attorney General as legal counsel in the Supreme Court if she does not change her opinion on the haredi Draft Law.
Feb 29, 2024, 9:16 AM (GMT+2) – Israel Hayom reports a significant disagreement between the Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, and the Cabinet regarding the Draft Law.
The Attorney General claimed that without a decision resolving the issue before March, government funding to yeshivas must be stopped immediately.
Senior officials in the government told the Attorney General’s staff that they did not agree. The government opposed this opinion and stated that if the Attorney General insists on presenting such an opinion to the Supreme Court, they will consider retaining different counsel.

In preparation for the Supreme Court deliberations regarding the haredi draft, the Attorney General publicized her position on the matter approximately a week ago.
She claimed that the absence of a normalized plan to allow deferring service for yeshiva students has implications for the legitimacy of supporting those students. The government took offense at the connection between failure to draft and reduction of yeshiva budgets. According to officials in the Cabinet, the two issues cannot be connected. The matter will be brought to the Supreme Court on March 18th, and the government will need to explain why the two should or should not be connected.
Civil Administration demolishes Israeli homesteads Israel National News
One hundred police officers, along with Civil Administration inspectors, demolished every building at two farms and confiscated farm equipment.
Feb 29, 2024, 3:55 PM (GMT+2) – Approximately one hundred Border Police officers and inspectors from the Civil Administration raided the homesteads ‘Sde Yonatan’ and ‘Or Meir’ in the Binyamin region this morning. The security forces demolished all the buildings at both locations, including residences and a sheepfold.
The residents of the homesteads claimed that Arab workers were hired to take part in the demolition and the confiscation of farm equipment. Among other things, the security forces confiscated a generator used to power the lights of the homestead’s security system, as well as heating equipment, despite it still being winter.
The two homesteads, both built along Route 60, are currently occupied by a group of young men working to develop the area and prepare it to receive families in the near future. They are raising a flock of sheep that occupies nearby fields and cultivating extensive tracts of farmland.
Residents of the homesteads criticized the demolition: “Even during wartime, the government is still deep in the misconception and sees settlers as the true enemy. Those who decided, at a time like this, to take one hundred Border Police officers from security assignments to demolish pioneering efforts at these locations are criminals, irresponsible, and dangerous to the lives of all Israeli citizens.” [Emphasis added]
Residents of Sde Yonatan commented: “Last year, this Homestead experienced dozens of attacks from the Palestinian Authority and the nearby town of Dayr Dibwan, which can be seen from the homestead which is preventing the Arab takeover like a thorn in their throat. The homestead has stood firmly against these attacks, and developed and grown its land over the last few months – land that is being kept in Jewish ownership by the actions of the homestead.”

“Unfortunately, it seems that there are those in the government who believe that preventing a Palestinian state which is taking shape in this area is the true danger, and so have decided to fight against Jewish settlement locations at any cost. To them, we say: The nation of Israel has suffered more painful persecution over the years, and only become stronger for it. This demolition will not help you, and the homestead will be rebuilt and continue to be the pioneer in our battle for the land of Judea and Samaria.”
An official in the IDF Civil Administration told Arutz Sheva – Israel National News: “The land in question is private Palestinian land, and the demolition order here has been enforced several times in the past.”

2 killed in shooting attack at entrance to Eli Israel National News
Deadly shooting attack carried at gas station at entrance to Eli in Binyamin, the same location where 4 people were murdered in another shooting attack last year.
Feb 29, 2024, 5:27 PM (GMT+2) – Two people were murdered in a terrorist shooting attack at a gas station at the entrance to Eli in Binyamin this afternoon (Thursday).
There were two attackers. One of the shooters was killed, while the second was wounded and barricaded himself inside a nearby store. There is no concern that the second terrorist had any hostages.
According to Magen David Adom, the two victims were a man in his 30s and a teenager who were found shot in a car.
The IDF stated, “A short while ago, a terrorist arrived at a gas station in Eli and opened fire. The terrorist was neutralized. IDF soldiers are blocking off routes and pursuing additional suspects in the area.”
Eli Settlement Committee Chairman Ariel Elmaliach said, “This is a serious attack. After the attack last year at the Eli gas station, another attack took place there. Now the security forces, together with the security coordinator of the settlement of Eli, are conducting searches on the spot. Unfortunately, the writing was on the wall.”

HEZBOLLAH PREPARES FOR POTENTIAL ESCALATION WITH ISRAEL
February 28, 2024 – Hezbollah is gearing up for potential conflict following intelligence indicating Israel’s intention for a significant military operation post-Rafah activities. Nasrallah recently convened emergency meetings with the Iranian Quds Force commander in Beirut.
According to reports from The Arabic Post citing “special sources,” Iran has given Hezbollah the green light to escalate its military actions against Israel. This decision follows Hezbollah’s learning of Israel’s alleged plans for a major attack on Lebanon after its operations in Rafah.
Hezbollah’s Secretary General, Hassan Nasrallah, conferred with Quds Force commander Ismail Ka’ani, who reportedly endorsed Hezbollah’s response to Israel. The meeting, held in Beirut, aimed to address recent tensions between Hezbollah and the Revolutionary Guards, sparked by uncoordinated rocket launches resulting in casualties.
While past reports suggested Iranian leadership’s reluctance for Hezbollah’s large-scale engagement with Israel, senior Revolutionary Guards members, including Ka’ani, advocate for a robust Hezbollah response to Israeli provocations.
During the meeting, it was agreed that Iran would bolster Hezbollah’s arsenal with advanced weaponry, including ballistic missiles, drones, monitoring, and communication systems. The plan involves transferring these armaments from Iranian depots in Syria to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Additionally, Russia is expected to contribute surveillance boats and anti-ship missiles to Hezbollah, signaling a strategic collaboration facilitated by Iran. This cooperation aims to enhance Hezbollah’s capabilities and strengthen the resistance axis led by Iran in the region.

Police search for missing nine-year-old Haymanot Kasau continues By JERUSALEM POST STAFF
“We are working very hard…to try to find some kind of clue to understand where Haymanot could be. We are scanning the absorption center and its surrounding area.”
FEBRUARY 28, 2024 – Avichai Kahana, Director General of the Aliyah and Integration Ministry, spoke on Wednesday on radio 103fm of the disappearance of nine-year-old Haymanot Kasau from Safed on Sunday, saying, “We are working very hard…to try to find some kind of clue to understand where Haymanot could be.
“We are scanning the absorption center and its surrounding area,” he said, referring to where the girl lives.
“All possibilities are being investigated,” he added, “the family has been investigated. According to the information the investigators gave us, the family is a normal family, with no conflict or special problem in the family…The police will ask all the children because children may be able to say something that others don’t say. But we don’t have any basis for saying that it is someone close and familiar to her.”
Possibility that Kasau may not be in the country
Addressing the possibility that Kasau may no longer be in the country, he said, “There is also the possibility that she is not in Israel. We are not ruling anything out.”
“Haymanot in Amharic means faith, we believe,” he concluded.
Kasau was last seen Sunday evening in Safed in Tzahal Street, after which she entered the absorption center and disappeared. Police forces and volunteers have been searching the center and its area, retrieving footage from security cameras and collecting testimonies from witnesses, according to Israeli media.
Kasau’s family immigrated to Israel three years ago. She is one of five siblings. Her father is Christian and does not live in Israel, while her mother is Jewish and resides in Safed.
US gov. opens investigation into Israeli company making Iron Dome parts By YEHUDA SHARONI
The US applied sanctions against the Finkelstein Industrial Company, which could have further implications for Israel’s economy and defense industry.
FEBRUARY 28, 2024 – In an unprecedented legal proceeding, the American government opened an investigation into Finkelstein Metals and is examining the government’s conduct, Maariv reported Wednesday morning. According to the American authorities, grants received by the company due to activities in a development zone constitute a prohibited government subsidy, and they allowed the company to sell its products in the US at inflated prices. The decision to open the investigation and sanctions against Finkelstein has puzzled Israeli officials.
The scope of Finkelstein’s activities in the US is minimal compared to the American complainants, and it holds less than 3% of the market share in the US. However, this is about 75% of its sales volume. The American administration’s claim also contradicts the trade agreement between the two countries, which has existed for decades.
Imposition of sanctions
Sanctions and customs duties have already been imposed on the company, which significantly impair its ability to operate regularly and may endanger the supplies required for the defense industry, such as the Iron Dome. As a result, the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Association of Manufacturers entered the picture.
10 terrorists for every 1 hostage: All the details of the proposed prisoner swap Israel National News
Document reveals: Prisoner swap would see release of around 40 women, elderly, and ailing, in exchange for hundreds of convicted terrorists; six-week ceasefire.
Feb 24, 2024, 9:10 PM (GMT+2) – Channel 13 News revealed on Saturday evening a document with the principal points of a potential prisoner swap deal between Israel and the Hamas terror group.
Hamas has not yet said whether it would agree to such a deal.
The deal would include the release of around 40 hostages – women, elderly over age 50 or 60, and the ailing – in exchange for hundreds of convicted terrorists, as well as a six-week ceasefire.
The proposal also says that Israel will agree to release, in exchange for certain categories, more terrorists than were agreed upon until now. A foreign source said that Israel is willing to hold negotiations regarding the release of terrorists who were released in the 2011 Shalit deal and re-arrested following continued terror activity.
Under the proposal, Israel will also show significant flexibility on humanitarian issues, both regarding rebuilding Gaza and regarding allowing residents to return to northern Gaza. Israel will not, however, commit to ending the war.

According to Kan News, the agreement would include one day of ceasefire in exchange for every hostage released, as well as the release of hundreds of convicted terrorists at a rate of ten terrorists for every one hostage, and the return of Gazans to northern Gaza, and rebuilding Gaza.
Earlier on Saturday evening, a senior diplomatic source said, “We are still far from a deal, but Hamas has dropped some of its demands.”
Hamas official Abed Elrahman Shadid told a Qatari television station on Saturday that, “The discussions in Paris are nothing but self-negotiations, since Hamas is not part of them.”
“The statements by [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu send clear messages that Israel is not serious about its attempt to make progress on the matter of a prisoner swap. We are not a part or party to the meetings in Paris, and they did not report any progress to us.”

Netanyahu: We will approve plans for Rafah operation Hezki Baruch
PM Netanyahu says Cabinet will meet to approve plans for Rafah operation, evacuation of Gaza civilians.
Feb 24, 2024, 10:16 PM (GMT+2) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday night spoke about the progress in talks for a prisoner swap deal to free the Israelis kidnapped to Gaza on October 7.
“We are working to achieve another deal to free our hostages, as well as eliminating Hamas battalions in Rafah,” Netanyahu said. “Therefore, I sent a delegation to Paris, and we will speak this evening about the next steps in the negotiations.”
Netanyahu also emphasized that Israel intends to operate in Rafah: “At the beginning of the week, I will gather the Cabinet to approve the plans for operational action in Rafah, including evacuating the civilian population from there. Only the integration of military pressure and firm negotiations will bring about a release of our hostages, the elimination of Hamas, and the achievement of all of the goals of the war.”

The proposed deal would see a first stage in which 35-40 hostages are released: women, children, the elderly, and the ailing (including young ailing). One report defined “elderly” as over 50, while another defined it as over 60.
In exchange for these hostages, Israel will agree to a ceasefire of several weeks, without committing to ending the war. The negotiators hope to utilize the ceasefire for negotiations regarding a more comprehensive deal which would extend the ceasefire.
The negotiators also hope to finalize the agreement within the coming two weeks, so that it takes effect before the start of Ramadan on March 10.
Meanwhile, reports say that hundreds of convicted terrorists, including those with blood on their hands, will be freed in exchange for the Israeli hostages.

Breaking: It seems that the hostage deal is close 𝗜𝗦𝗥𝗔𝗘𝗟 𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦
The Israeli delegation returned from the talks in Paris “there is progress in all parameters, an outline was reached that could be the basis for advanced negotiations”
According to sources, the gaps between the parties have narrowed significantly, the talks are over
• The release of about 40 hostages in exchange for hundreds of terrorists imprisoned in Israel
• A 6-week respite from fighting
All this is at the stage of talks and there is no agreement yet.
