On the shift in US support for Israel during the current war in Gaza, going from 100% support from President Joe Biden to pressures and demands, Zell says that “those of us who understand what’s going on with the Biden administration said very early on that Joe Biden and all of his strong support for Israel, that may have been his personal view. But the people that run Joe Biden, that is the Obama folks that run the White House and Obama himself in his basement near Washington or wherever he happens to be, have a different view about Israel. They were never friendly with Israel.”
He continued, “You remember the Obama administration. So, when the Americans expressed shock after October 7th, that was something we understood. But remember what they said. They said ‘we will do what is necessary to let Israel defend herself. We have her back.’ There were statements like that. What they didn’t say at the time was ‘we support Israel’s war objectives to go in, smash Hamas, take them out for all time, return the hostages and then make Gaza a place with which Israel can live in peace in the future.’ That is not what the Americans ever said.”
Zell continued, “They opposed the ground operation in October from the very beginning. They opposed Israel’s objections to sending humanitarian aid or limiting humanitarian aid to Gaza and they have put on pressure now and insisting that whatever happens after the war includes, incredibly, the establishment of a Palestinian state with the very people who committed the atrocities on October 7th.”
On the understanding that the result of October 7th may be a Palestinian state, Zell questions, “How do I explain a Palestinian state? Because that has been the policy of the Democratic party and the progressives for years. That’s what they believe in. That’s what they’re trying to accomplish. It has a domestic political angle as well, because the Democrats need the state of Michigan. It’s one of the six or seven swing states for the presidential election in November. They need Michigan terribly. They won it in 2020. They lost it in 2016 and if they don’t take it in 2024, there’s a very good chance they won’t be able to keep the White House or the Congress.”
Poll: Gantz gains popularity, Smotrich left out Israel National News
A new poll shows that if elections were held today, the National Unity party would win more than a third of these seats, and the Religious Zionist party would not be part of the Knesset at all.
Mar 1, 2024, 7:53 AM (GMT+2) – A new poll by Maariv shows a significant shift in favor of the National Unity party led by Benny Gantz.
According to the poll, if elections were held immediately, National Unity would receive 41 seats in the Knesset.
The nearest contender, Likud, would receive only 18. Opposition leader Yair Lapid’s party Yesh Atid would receive 12.
The Haredi parties of Shas and UTJ would receive 10 and 6 seats respectively.
Yisrael Beiteinu would receive 10 seats, Otzma Yehudit 9, and Meretz 5.
The Arab parties of Hadash-Ta’al and UAL would receive 5 and 4 seats respectively.
Labor, the Religious Zionist Party, and the Arab party Balad would not be included.

He served as a Palestinian police officer, at a rank equivalent to major.
Manasara had two previous prison terms, and was last released from the Ofer prison in 2019, after serving a prison sentence for illegal carrying of arms.

Israel frees dozens of Palestinians in administrative detention, citing lack of space
All those freed Thursday were set for release in the month of March; Ben Gvir rails against decision, noting its proximity to a West Bank terror attack
March 1, 2023 – The IDF and Shin Bet said Thursday night that some 40 Palestinian suspects held under administrative detention had been released, saying the move was aimed at freeing up space “for detainees of a higher threat level.”
The statement noted the released suspects had been slated to be freed in the coming month.
Administrative detention is a controversial tool whereby Palestinian terror suspects and, more rarely, Jewish terror suspects, are detained without charge or trial. The tool is typically used when authorities have intelligence tying a suspect to a crime but do not have enough evidence for charges to stand up in a court of law.
The detentions must be renewed by a military court every six months, and prisoners can remain in jail for years under the mechanism. Israel says administrative detention is a tool that helps keep dangerous terrorists off the streets and allows the government to hold suspects without divulging sensitive intelligence. Critics say the policy denies prisoners due process.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir railed at the release, claiming they were not, in fact, freed due to overcrowding.
“[They were released] because of the direct order of the Shin Bet head as a ‘gesture’ ahead of Ramadan,” the far-right politician alleged.
Ben Gvir said the Israel Prisons Service, which is under his authority, “has no judgment on the matter.”
He also fumed at Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar because the release took place on the same day two Israelis were killed in a terror shooting in the West Bank and a day after the extension of a settler activist’s administrative detention.
HEZBOLLAH PREPARES FOR POTENTIAL ESCALATION WITH ISRAEL
February 28, 2024 – Hezbollah is gearing up for potential conflict following intelligence indicating Israel’s intention for a significant military operation post-Rafah activities. Nasrallah recently convened emergency meetings with the Iranian Quds Force commander in Beirut.
According to reports from The Arabic Post citing “special sources,” Iran has given Hezbollah the green light to escalate its military actions against Israel. This decision follows Hezbollah’s learning of Israel’s alleged plans for a major attack on Lebanon after its operations in Rafah.
Hezbollah’s Secretary General, Hassan Nasrallah, conferred with Quds Force commander Ismail Ka’ani, who reportedly endorsed Hezbollah’s response to Israel. The meeting, held in Beirut, aimed to address recent tensions between Hezbollah and the Revolutionary Guards, sparked by uncoordinated rocket launches resulting in casualties.

Police search for missing nine-year-old Haymanot Kasau continues By JERUSALEM POST STAFF

FEBRUARY 28, 2024 – Avichai Kahana, Director General of the Aliyah and Integration Ministry, spoke on Wednesday on radio 103fm of the disappearance of nine-year-old Haymanot Kasau from Safed on Sunday, saying, “We are working very hard…to try to find some kind of clue to understand where Haymanot could be.
“We are scanning the absorption center and its surrounding area,” he said, referring to where the girl lives.
“All possibilities are being investigated,” he added, “the family has been investigated. According to the information the investigators gave us, the family is a normal family, with no conflict or special problem in the family…The police will ask all the children because children may be able to say something that others don’t say. But we don’t have any basis for saying that it is someone close and familiar to her.”
Possibility that Kasau may not be in the country
Addressing the possibility that Kasau may no longer be in the country, he said, “There is also the possibility that she is not in Israel. We are not ruling anything out.”
“Haymanot in Amharic means faith, we believe,” he concluded.
Kasau was last seen Sunday evening in Safed in Tzahal Street, after which she entered the absorption center and disappeared. Police forces and volunteers have been searching the center and its area, retrieving footage from security cameras and collecting testimonies from witnesses, according to Israeli media.
Kasau’s family immigrated to Israel three years ago. She is one of five siblings. Her father is Christian and does not live in Israel, while her mother is Jewish and resides in Safed.

The US applied sanctions against the Finkelstein Industrial Company, which could have further implications for Israel’s economy and defense industry.
FEBRUARY 28, 2024 – In an unprecedented legal proceeding, the American government opened an investigation into Finkelstein Metals and is examining the government’s conduct, Maariv reported Wednesday morning. According to the American authorities, grants received by the company due to activities in a development zone constitute a prohibited government subsidy, and they allowed the company to sell its products in the US at inflated prices. The decision to open the investigation and sanctions against Finkelstein has puzzled Israeli officials.
The scope of Finkelstein’s activities in the US is minimal compared to the American complainants, and it holds less than 3% of the market share in the US. However, this is about 75% of its sales volume. The American administration’s claim also contradicts the trade agreement between the two countries, which has existed for decades.

Document reveals: Prisoner swap would see release of around 40 women, elderly, and ailing, in exchange for hundreds of convicted terrorists; six-week ceasefire.
Feb 24, 2024, 9:10 PM (GMT+2) – Channel 13 News revealed on Saturday evening a document with the principal points of a potential prisoner swap deal between Israel and the Hamas terror group.
Hamas has not yet said whether it would agree to such a deal.
The deal would include the release of around 40 hostages – women, elderly over age 50 or 60, and the ailing – in exchange for hundreds of convicted terrorists, as well as a six-week ceasefire.
The proposal also says that Israel will agree to release, in exchange for certain categories, more terrorists than were agreed upon until now. A foreign source said that Israel is willing to hold negotiations regarding the release of terrorists who were released in the 2011 Shalit deal and re-arrested following continued terror activity.
Under the proposal, Israel will also show significant flexibility on humanitarian issues, both regarding rebuilding Gaza and regarding allowing residents to return to northern Gaza. Israel will not, however, commit to ending the war.

According to Kan News, the agreement would include one day of ceasefire in exchange for every hostage released, as well as the release of hundreds of convicted terrorists at a rate of ten terrorists for every one hostage, and the return of Gazans to northern Gaza, and rebuilding Gaza.
Earlier on Saturday evening, a senior diplomatic source said, “We are still far from a deal, but Hamas has dropped some of its demands.”
Hamas official Abed Elrahman Shadid told a Qatari television station on Saturday that, “The discussions in Paris are nothing but self-negotiations, since Hamas is not part of them.”
“The statements by [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu send clear messages that Israel is not serious about its attempt to make progress on the matter of a prisoner swap. We are not a part or party to the meetings in Paris, and they did not report any progress to us.”

Feb 24, 2024, 10:16 PM (GMT+2) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday night spoke about the progress in talks for a prisoner swap deal to free the Israelis kidnapped to Gaza on October 7.
“We are working to achieve another deal to free our hostages, as well as eliminating Hamas battalions in Rafah,” Netanyahu said. “Therefore, I sent a delegation to Paris, and we will speak this evening about the next steps in the negotiations.”
Netanyahu also emphasized that Israel intends to operate in Rafah: “At the beginning of the week, I will gather the Cabinet to approve the plans for operational action in Rafah, including evacuating the civilian population from there. Only the integration of military pressure and firm negotiations will bring about a release of our hostages, the elimination of Hamas, and the achievement of all of the goals of the war.”

The proposed deal would see a first stage in which 35-40 hostages are released: women, children, the elderly, and the ailing (including young ailing). One report defined “elderly” as over 50, while another defined it as over 60.
In exchange for these hostages, Israel will agree to a ceasefire of several weeks, without committing to ending the war. The negotiators hope to utilize the ceasefire for negotiations regarding a more comprehensive deal which would extend the ceasefire.
The negotiators also hope to finalize the agreement within the coming two weeks, so that it takes effect before the start of Ramadan on March 10.
Meanwhile, reports say that hundreds of convicted terrorists, including those with blood on their hands, will be freed in exchange for the Israeli hostages.
