Apr 25, 2023, 11:04 AM – The state ceremony marking Israel’s Memorial Day (Yom HaZikaron) began just after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, immediately following the two-minute siren in honor of Israel’s fallen soldiers.
President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana arrived at the Mount Herzl military cemetery in Jerusalem for the ceremony, as a special flyover of fighter jets passed overhead.
“I understand your pain and anguish,” Netanyahu said during his address. “I [also] understand the pride that goes into it.”
Netanyahu said all the citizens of Israel – Jews, Druze, Muslims, Christians, and Caucasians – are “brothers in arms, brothers in service, and brothers in blood,” referring to different nationalities that have given their lives for the State of Israel.
Thousands of Israelis gathered at cemeteries across the country to commemorate the country’s 24,213 fallen soldiers, as well as the 4,255 civilians murdered in terrorist attacks.
Alongside the central event in Jerusalem, 52 other government ceremonies are being held at military cemeteries and memorial centers throughout Israel.

Caroline Glick under consideration for New York consul post BY ETGAR LEFKOVITS
The JNS columnist worked for Benjamin Netanyahu a quarter century ago.
(April 24, 2023 / JNS) The prominent Israeli-American columnist Caroline B. Glick is among the candidates being considered for the high-profile position of consul general in New York.
The move comes after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided not to appoint Likud lawmaker May Golan to the posting, following criticism from left-wing American Jewish leaders and the State Department over her past remarks.
Glick, who worked with Netanyahu a quarter century ago before becoming a widely-read columnist, including for JNS, has been critical of the Biden administration’s policies vis-à-vis Israel.
[Ed.: She would also be an excellent Prime Minister… Just sayin’! Personally, I hope she turns down the job. New York is a dangerous, dismal. hell hole. Israel does not need to send our best to the (once was) United States. Today Israel should keep more than an arms length away from those who have taken over this country! Caroline’s presence would not help anything.]

Memorial Day terror: Israeli shot near Jerusalem, suspect at large

An Israeli man was shot by a terrorist in a vehicle in the Binyamin region north of Jerusalem on Tuesday morning, Israel’s national Memorial Day for IDF soldiers and security forces who were killed during the country’s wars and military operations.
The 28-year-old Israeli, whose name was not made public, was participating in a Memorial Day jog along route 60, with dozens of other runners who were commemorating fallen soldiers.
[Ed.: We need more ‘Palestinian’ musloids in Israel. That way we can ‘coexist’, show the world our ‘diversity’, and how ‘inclusive’ we are. What’s a few dead Jews, after all?]
Israeli court orders government to let Palestinians attend Memorial Day event
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant had barred passage across the Green Line, citing the “complex security situation.”
(April 24, 2023 / JNS) Israel’s Supreme Court, sitting as the High Court of Justice, overruled Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Sunday and ordered him to allow Palestinians to cross the Green Line to attend an annual joint Memorial Day event.
In its decision, the court expressed “regret” over Gallant’s decision earlier this month to bar Palestinian participants, despite previous rulings ordering the state to allow them to attend the event, now in its 17th year, hosted by Combatants for Peace.
Gallant attributed his decision to “the complex security situation” in Judea and Samaria, citing the standard practice of closing the crossings into Green Line Israel over Memorial Day and Independence Day to reduce the risk of terrorist attacks.
However, the court noted that the Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories unit, which oversees civilian affairs in Israeli-controlled areas of Judea and Samaria, had approved the request, and that tens of thousands of Palestinians are routinely allowed into Israel every day for various reasons.
[Ed.: Of course our mortal enemies should be invited to our Memorial Day! Otherwise, how else could they have access to killing more of us? Jewish blood is cheapest in the State of IINO.]
Grieving together for our fallen heroes DANNY DANON
This Remembrance Day, we will stand united as one grieving people.
(April 25, 2023 / JNS) This year, Israel’s annual Remembrance Day for the Fallen Soldiers of the Wars of Israel will have a special meaning.
At the height of a polarizing political storm, we will all pause for a day and recognize that our enemies do not differentiate between left and right, between supporters or opponents of judicial reform or between civilians and soldiers. To our enemies, we are one target, no matter our religious practices or political leanings. Today, we recall that only together, united, will we be able to face down those who threaten us and wish to destroy us.
Today, as on every Remembrance Day, the entire nation of Israel feels the deep pain that Israel’s bereaved families experience all year round. This year especially, against the backdrop of current events, our coming together will take on a unique significance. When we stand together in the military cemeteries where the fallen among our family and friends are buried, we will know without a doubt that we are all one people, a nation united.
Alongside the bereaved families, there are thousands of us who are named after a father, an uncle, a brother or a friend we will never have the opportunity to meet. I was privileged to be named after one of these thousands of heroes, the late Danny Verdon, and thus join those who have become living monuments to fallen heroes.
