Aug. 6, 2023 8:45 am – Pope Francis has confirmed that he sought the help of Brazil’s socialist president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, to secure the release of Catholic bishop Rolando Álvarez, who is imprisoned in Nicaragua’s left-wing dictatorship for opposing the regime led by Marxist Daniel Ortega.
The request from the Supreme Pontiff to the Brazilian president took place in June of this year during a meeting at the Vatican. Lula da Silva gained notoriety for supporting the Sandinista dictatorship in Nicaragua.
“Yes, I asked for Lula’s help,” stated the Pontiff when questioned on the matter in an interview with the Spanish magazine “Vida Nueva”, released this Friday (4).
“I will speak with Ortega to secure his freedom, because one must learn to ask for forgiveness and acknowledge this mistake,” Lula stated after his encounter with the Pontiff. The meeting between Lula and Pope Francis, held in June, lasted approximately 45 minutes.
Bishop Rolando Álvarez of Matagalpa was sentenced to 26 years in prison for alleged attempts to “undermine national integrity.” Although he was briefly released in early July, he was imprisoned again for refusing to leave the country.
This Friday (4) marks one year since the imprisonment of Bishop Álvarez, who remains incarcerated in Nicaragua, serving a 26-year sentence. Alongside the bishop, four other priests, two seminarians, and a diocesan staff member from Matagalpa were also detained.

Anthony Lamar Smith, a 24-year-old African American resident of St. Louis, Missouri, lost his life in December 2011 after being pursued in a car chase and subsequently shot by Jason Stockley, who was serving as a St. Louis Police officer at that time.
In 2017, The Gateway Pundit reported that a St. Louis judge found former Police Officer Jason Stockley NOT GUILTY of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Anthony Smith, a suspected heroin dealer who rammed Stockley’s police car with his vehicle.
Black Lives Matter held protests daily following the verdict. Protesters stormed a local hotel the Cheshire Inn and harassed patrons in their rooms and at the pool.

People are obviously concerned about crime, but one of the other things driving this is the constant threat of greater gun control from Democrats.
People used to call Obama the world’s greatest gun salesman, but this trend has continued even with him out of office.

No pause in gun sales, record 48 million over four years
The end of July marked the latest record in United States firearms sales — 48 straight months of one million or more gun purchases.
The just released FBI tally of background checks showed another sky-high number of 1,987,650, down a bit from July 2022, but still more than 19 of the other 24 years the system has been in operation.
When adjusted just for likely sales of firearms, it was 1,023,903.
“July 2023 marks the 48th month in a row, 4 years, that has exceeded 1 million adjusted background checks in a single month,” said the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade group for the industry.
Mark Oliva, the NSSF spokesman, said the long stretch of likely gun sales is unlike anything the nation has ever seen and has been fueled by politics and safety.
“This is a remarkable milestone of four continuous years of over 1 million background checks for the sale of a firearm. That’s no small achievement and is indicative of the strong and sustained appetite for law-abiding Americans to take ownership of their Second Amendment rights,” Oliva said.

This is the second time this year Wells Fargo customers have complained about deposits missing from their accounts.
One customer took to Twitter this week to complain about a $4,000 deposit missing.
Wells Fargo then overdrafted the customer’s account.
