‘Civil Commission of Inquiry’ formed on October 7 disaster in lieu of state probe
‘You silenced the voice of our daughters – but we will not be silent,’ said a father of a slain IDF spotter
July 18, 2024 at 07:03 AM i24NEWS – A “Civil Commission of Inquiry Committee” was established on Thursday to investigate the October 7 disaster, bringing together several groups “in the absence of a state commission of inquiry.”
The committee will be chaired by retired judge Gideon Ginat, former police commissioner Shlomo Aharonishki, former Beit She’an mayor Raphael Ben-Sheetrit, retired Brigadier General Yehudit Grisaro, retired Major General Eyal Ben-Reuven, and Professor Asa Kasher.
A range of organizations joined together to select members of the commission, including the parents of Nachal Oz base soldiers, Kibbutz Be’eri, Lobby 1701 of displaced residents of northern Israel, the committee of families of October 7 victims, and Kumu – an organization of Israelis displaced in northern and southern Israel.
“The organizations have joined together to establish the committee, and appointed key figures leading in the security and judiciary fields. The committee will conduct a complex and comprehensive investigative process in the coming months, through testimony hearing and evidence collection, and at its conclusion, the committee members will publish their findings, which will serve as the investigative basis for the work of the state commission of inquiry,” the commission said in a statement.
“Nine months ago, at 6:30 in the morning, our lives ended as we knew them,” said Yonatan Shemeriz of Kibbutz Kfar Aza, a founder of the Kumu movement and brother of Alon Shemeriz, who was accidentally killed while trying to escape.
“Nine months have passed since the greatest disaster the Jewish people have known since the Holocaust. We thought everything would change with our ‘leaders.’ That they would take responsibility, that they would conduct a courageous and serious investigation. Nine months have passed and there is not even a hint of the establishment of a state commission.”
Eyal Eshel, the father of the late Sergeant Roni Eshel, also added his voice.
“Roni, my eldest, with her smile, charm, and laughter, was supposed to be released on holiday now,” he said. “Instead, I stand here today and Roni will never be released. I stand here today, not only in my name but in the name of justice and truth. I demand it! I demand it on behalf of all the soldiers, the brave spotters who were abandoned to die. We will not be silent and will not rest until a state commission of inquiry is established! We will not tire and we will not give up because it is the mission of our lives! For the recovery of our country. They silenced our daughters’ voices. But we will not be silent.”

The Israeli military’s preliminary inquest into the failure to intercept the deadly attack suggested it was caused by a “human error.”
Houthi military spokesperson said the group were “Triumphing for the oppression of the Palestinian people and their mujahideen, and in retaliation to the Zionist enemy’s massacres against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.”
“Early this morning, emergency personnel received a report of an explosion that took place here in the heart of Tel Aviv,” a police spokesperson said. “Emergency personnel rushed to the scene, including bomb disposal experts who are still working at the scene to investigate what exactly took place. We’re talking about a number of individuals who were harmed by this explosion. At this time, we also have reports of one fatality.”

“When we walked out [in] January of 2021, the Iranian regime was afraid and the people of Israel were strong and secure, and were treated like the friend and ally that they need to be,” said Pompeo, who was met with applause.
“President Biden won’t even talk about the fact that Americans are still being held there by the Iranian regime. Contrast that with what we did when Americans were wrongfully held. President Trump sent me to North Korea to bring home three American pastors. We brought them home, along with dozens of other hostages and we did so without paying one single penny to the terrorists,” he said.
Pompeo said that Biden “eased up on President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign” on Iran. When that started, he added, “We gave money to the Ayatollah so he could cut more checks to the genocidal maniacs who conducted barbaric attacks in Israel.”
“President Biden sold out our citizens and our security and our sovereignty and we need to get it back and I am confident that we will get it back,” added Pompeo.
He also said that Biden and Vice President Harris “are providing appeasement to the pro-Hamas radicals on our streets, here inside the United States..and even worse, today this administration treats illegals better than our own citizens.”

Loud explosion heard at the corner of Ben Yehuda Street and Shalom Aleichem Street in Tel Aviv. The echoes of the explosion were heard throughout the Gush Dan region.
Jul 19, 2024, 4:31 AM (GMT+3) – Israel National News – A loud explosion was heard early Friday morning at the corner of Ben Yehuda Street and Shalom Aleichem Street in Tel Aviv.
The echoes of the explosion were heard in many areas throughout Gush Dan, including in Rishon Lezion, Givat Shmuel, Holon, Ramat Gan and Givatayim.
Residents living near the scene of the explosion reported that objects shattered in their homes as a result of the blast.
Security and rescue forces are at the scene. The circumstances are under investigation.
The Israel Police spokesperson said, “A short time ago, a report was received at the police headquarters about an explosion in a building in the city of Tel Aviv. Forces in large numbers of the Tel Aviv District Police and police sappers arrived at the scene and are handling the scene.”
The IDF is investigating the possibility that the explosion was caused by a drone which infiltrated into Israeli territory.
The Home Front Command stated, “No aerial intrusion into central Israel was detected and therefore no siren was triggered – the incident is under investigation.”
Magen David Adom said that, as a result of the explosion, a 37-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were lightly injured. They were taken to Ichilov Hospital. In addition, four people were treated for anxiety.
Gaza War Fuels Growing Desire Among Israelis to Leave
July 18, 2024 JBN News – A new survey reveals a growing disillusionment among Israelis as the war against Hamas grinds on in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Jewish People Policy Institute, a staggering 25% of Jewish Israelis and 40% of Arab Israelis would leave the country if given the opportunity. Furthermore, while the early months after October 7 saw high confidence in the IDF’s ability to defeat Hamas, by July that faith had dwindled significantly. Only 62% of right-wing Jewish Israelis believed victory was achievable, with centrists and left-wing respondents showing even less optimism at 30% and 16% respectively.
Perhaps most troubling is the plummeting trust in the IDF’s command command structure. A majority of Jewish survey participants (55%) reported low confidence in military leadership. This marks a sharp decline, particularly among right-wing supporters, where disapproval skyrocketed from 60% in June to a whopping 80% in July.
Israel’s government fares no better in the court of public opinion. Only 26% of respondents expressed trust in the current administration, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s personal approval rating languishing at a mere 27%.
A separate Channel 12 poll paints an even bleaker picture for the embattled prime minister. A resounding 72% of Israelis believe Netanyahu should resign, with 44% calling for his immediate departure and 28% saying he should step down after the war. Even among those who said they supported the current government, 52% believe it’s time for Netanyahu to leave office early.

Report: 42 Israeli homesteads demolished in half a year
A special report claims that the demolitions happen approximately twice a week and include destruction of residential homes, uprooting of orchards, and confiscation of equipment.
Jul 18, 2024, 9:26 AM (GMT+3) Israel National News – A special report published Thursday morning by Judea and Samaria farmers details the number of evictions and destructions carried out by the Civil Administration and Central Command in the past half year, as well as the use of closed military area orders to prevent the establishment of new ones.
According to the data, the number of evictions stands at no less than 44 events since the beginning of 2024, which is a frequency of twice a week. In most events, more than one structure is destroyed, and sometimes even five or ten in a single event.
The report’s authors claim that the destruction carried out by the security forces during the specified time period include the demolition of residential homes, destruction of sheep pens and water and electricity infrastructure, uprooting of orchards, and confiscation of equipment.
Furthermore, according to them, in many cases, the security forces carried out repeated destruction, sometimes even 5 times in a row in a short period at a hill or farm, in an attempt to prevent the establishment of the farm at any cost.
Additionally, the IDF’s Central Command chief issued closed military area orders in a series of cases to prevent the establishment of new farms.
“From the data in the past half year, a clear and worrying trend emerges,” said the report’s authors. “The Central Command chief and the Civil Administration promoted a policy in the field to prevent the establishment of new settlements and outposts. The policy began after the establishment of the Evyatar settlement but intensified over time.”
According to them, “This is a much more severe policy than just occasional destruction in settlements, within which the security system invests massive resources to ensure that new Jewish settlements will not be established. If in the past we saw isolated destruction on a hill now and then, today it is already destruction within hours or a few days since the establishment of the farm, use of closed military zone orders, and repeated destruction to ensure that the hill cannot establish itself.”
“Recently, the security system has adopted a series of false justifications for the drastic increase in destruction, including the claim that the Jewish points pose a ‘security risk’ and thus must be evacuated. Everyone with common sense knows that settlement brings security and not the other way around, and the purpose of the policy is one: to abandon the area to the PA, which operates within the framework of the Fayyad plan to create Arab territorial continuity for the establishment of a de facto Palestinian state. We hope that the new chief and the political echelon will be wise enough to change the existing policy and bring about a breakthrough in settlement that will determine the fate of the battle for Judea and Samaria.”

Smotrich to Chief of Staff: Withdraw Be’eri report and stop other investigations Hezki Baruch
Minister Smotrich tells Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi: ‘No brilliance in conducting investigations against soldiers while the officers are not investigating their own performance.’
Jul 18, 2024, 12:03 PM (GMT+3) – Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich sent a letter to IDF Chief of Staff Herzli Halevi, calling on Halevi to shelve the conclusions of the Be’eri investigation and stop the continuation of the investigative process in the IDF at this current stage.
“When I initially opposed the initiation of investigations in the IDF during the war, I knew what I was talking about. Unfortunately, you insisted that you alone know what is good and right, ignored comments and criticism, and pushed forward with the investigations. The same is true regarding the continued normal management of military appointments,” Smotrich began his letter.
He added, “I warned in writing and verbally that these two steps would harm the war and the IDF’s ability to achieve its objectives. They would create tensions, anger, and rivalries within the IDF, severely damage the trust of the soldiers and commanders in the senior command and reduce motivation for the war, divert focus and efforts from security and combat to other issues. I warned that soldiers and commanders would be dealing with lawyers and personal divestment of liability instead of combat and its derivatives.”
The Minister noted, “It’s impossible not to see how these risks are coming true before our eyes, one by one. A great deal of detachment from the morale in the combat units is required not to feel the depressive atmosphere and the bubbling anger and distrust that result from them.”
“The conclusions of the ‘investigation’ into the tough battles at Kibbutz Be’eri have broken a new record for absurdity,” emphasized Smotrich. “First, it’s unclear why this investigation was conducted now. What exactly does publicizing its conclusions at this timing serve other than shifting responsibility from the senior command to soldiers and commanders who jumped into the fire and risked their lives, like the Shaldag Unit, when the entire system that was supposed to manage the effort collapsed as if it never existed?
“When you defended your decision to start the investigations in one of the Cabinet discussions, you explained it was important for learning to improve combat while in motion. How does the Be’eri investigation fit this definition? Is it intended so that if tomorrow morning the senior command, intelligence, warning systems, and defense completely collapse again, a few brave frontline soldiers who will be required to save the situation will do it a little better?! Do you really think there is a single serious person who buys this?”
According to Smotrich, ”The ‘Be’eri investigation’ is an ethical and command failure of the highest order. It throws Shaldag and other units and a few individual heroes under the bus after they moved to engage and operated under fire along with reserve soldiers and heroic civilians who took the initiative and risked their lives and did the best possible under the impossible circumstances created by the catastrophic senior command failure. They are hurt, angry, and feel betrayed, and rightfully so.”
The Finance Minister also stressed in his letter, “A serious investigation is conducted after the war, starting from the top with deriving lessons and taking real responsibility by the senior command, led and managed by another command that was not part of the failure and not by those naturally involved in it due to being the very subjects of the investigation, and only at the end does it also involve the soldiers who need to learn and improve. The way investigations are being conducted right now is completely reversed in all the parameters.”
“I call on you to shelve the conclusions of the investigation regarding the heroic soldiers who fought in the battle of Be’eri in the first hours and days, stop the continuation of the investigations, calm the stormy spirits in the IDF and Israeli society, and allow the IDF to focus solely on its essential mission for Israel’s security – winning the war. Everything else will be carried out after the war and by the new command to be appointed to execute corrections,” Smotrich concluded.

Jul 17, 2024, 8:42 AM (GMT+3) Israel National News – Yair Whiteson, 13 years old and a resident of Haifa, went for a hike near his home – quality time with his father, who came back home after spending four months serving in army reserves.
While walking near the “ancient quarry” site that lies below Khirbet Shalala (Mishmar Hacarmel Farm) on Mount Carmel, Yair suddenly came across an intriguing object.
“I am curious about fossils and rocks and love to collect them,” shared young Whiteson. “While hiking I noticed a small green item and picked it up. It was corroded, and at first, I thought it was just a rusty bolt. I thought about heating it, but then fortunately I understood it was a ring. At home, I saw it had an image on it. At first glance, I thought it was a warrior.”
The family contacted Nir Distelfeld, Inspector at the Theft Prevention Unit of the Israel Antiquities Authority, who transferred the ring to the National Treasures Department. It was examined and researched by the Israel Antiquities Authority with the assistance of Prof. Shua Amorai-Stark, an expert on ancient rings and amulets from the Kaye Academic College. Yair and his family were invited for a tour in the new Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein National Campus for the Archaeology of Israel, and received a commendation for good citizenship.
“On this beautiful ring, preserved in its entirety, is the image of a helmeted naked figure. In one hand she holds a shield, and a spear in the other,” explain Distelfeld and Dr. Eitan Klein, from the Israel Antiquities Authority’s Unit for the Prevention of Antiquities Robbery. “Yair’s identification of the figure as a warrior is very close to reality. The figure is – apparently, the goddess Minerva from Roman mythology, known also as Athena in Greek mythology. This goddess, who was very popular during the Roman period in the Land of Israel, was considered, among other things, as the goddess of war and military strategy, and also as the goddess of wisdom.”
“The small ring, whose metal seems to be bronze, probably belonged to a woman or girl during the Late Roman Period (2nd-3rd Century CE). The findspot was below Khirbet Shalala, sited on a hilltop where there are Roman period farmstead remains – and near an ancient rock quarry. There are two burial caves on the quarry’s edge. The ring may have belonged to a woman who lived on this farm. Or, it might have fallen from a quarry worker, or it may have been a burial offering from these nearby graves. There are many possibilities,” the researchers said.
Khirbet Shalala, the archaeological site near to where the ring was found, sits on a hilltop in the center of the Carmel Mountains. On three sides it is bounded by Nahal Oren, and nearby is Ein Alon, a perennial water source. The site was explored and documented in the past by the 19th century Palestine Exploration Fund surveyors, by famed Israeli archaeologist Prof. Ruth Amiran, and by a Bar-Ilan University expedition led by Mount Carmel expert Prof. Shimon Dar.
“The ring now connects to data gathered here in earlier excavations and surveys and sheds additional light onto this site,” Distelfeld and Dr. Klein concluded.
The ring found by Yair will be displayed to visitors as part of the IAA summer tours at the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein National Campus for the Archaeology of Israel, in Jerusalem. Details are available on the Israel Antiquities Authority website.

Israeli Spirituality Grows Stronger After Hamas Massacre
July 14, 2024 JBN News – On October 7, thousands of Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israel, carrying out a devastating massacre that has left an enduring mark on the nation’s psyche. With many Israelis losing loved ones and suffering trauma on that fateful day, many have lost trust in the government, the Israel Defense Forces, and the ability to bring the remaining hostages in Gaza back home.
However, their spiritual connection has not been tainted, with a Sunday poll by the Israel Democracy Institute revealing 33% of Israelis, particularly those between the ages of 18 and 29, have strengthened their faith in God since the attack. A staggering 63% reported praying more, while 59% said they were having more conversations with God, and 45% have been reciting Psalms more frequently.
In contrast, only 8% reported a decline in their faith.
In March, the Hostage and Missing Families Forum in partnership with Aish HaTorah Yeshiva in Jerusalem organized a day of prayer and unity that attracted nearly 5 million Jews worldwide. At the time, thousands of nonobservant soldiers sought tzitzit to wear beneath their uniforms into battle while others requested tefillin.
Israel Democracy Institute Prof. Benjamin Porat likens the current situation to the aftermath of the Holocaust, when the Jewish people struggled to reconcile their faith with the unspeakable evil they had endured.
“Some people, after the Holocaust, said that if such evil can happen and there is no supervision by God, why is it worth continuing to believe?” Porat tells Media Line. “Others recognized that the only way to survive such a tragedy is through faith and belief in God.”
While the road to healing is long and painful, the Jewish people have demonstrated time and again their ability to persevere in the face of unimaginable adversity. As they lean on their faith and each other for support, Israelis will undoubtedly find the strength to move forward even in the darkest of times.
Reflections on the 2005 Zionist expulsion of Jews
JUL 14, 2024 – My watershed moment came in the summer of 2005 when Ariel Sharon and his cohorts conducted a mass expulsion of some ten-thousand Jews from Gush Katif.
Twenty-two beautiful synagogues, thousands of homes, gardens, greenhouses, yeshivas, parks, fertile fields. Young and old, women and children, hoary seniors and tender babies, mercilessly driven out of their homes in tears, clutching their Torah scrolls. Images from this traumatic day still haunt my imagination.
The biggest expulsion of Jews since the expulsion of Jews from the Iberian Peninsula in 1492 and 1496.
Except this time, it wasn’t at the hand of a fanatic Catholic monarchy. This time, it was a so-called Jewish State, led by a “right-wing” prime minister. It was conducted by Jews, police and other govt. employees, who were just “following orders..
Moreover, here Jews weren’t being expelled from distant Diaspora lands to which our ancestors had been exiled. Instead, we were getting expelled from our own Holy Land, cruelly evicted in order to make way for a jihadist terror state for a hostile population that demanded a Judenrein land of their own purged of its Jews.
And irony of ironies: the date for this historic expulsion — that they attempted to whitewash by calling it “disengagement” — was slated for August 14th, 2005, which just ‘happened” to coincide with the 9th of Av, the date that marks the cataclysmic destruction of both Holy Temples and a numerous other national calamities, including the expulsion from Spain in 1492! [1]
I had spent weeks that summer on the telephone calling Israeli police officers and begging them to refuse orders to expel fellow Jews. Every single one whom I was able to reach wept on the phone and told me they agreed this expulsion is immoral and unjust. Many said they planned to call up sick that day, but none were willing to refuse orders.
I simply couldn’t wrap my head around it. Jew-haters expel Jews. Since when do Jews expel Jews!?
At that point I began to wake up to the harsh reality that the Zionist State is just another assault against Jews, in fact the most insidious in history.
It has effectively weaponized the Jewish people, turning Jew against Jew, committing unthinkable crimes against their own.
If this sinister government can forcibly expel thousands of Jews and cede their beautiful synagogues, farms, greenhouses, homes, etc., to genocidal jihadists whom they created and funded, all for some alleged “greater good,” then what else are they capable of doing?
When this rogue regime opened the border to those same bloodthirsty hordes and allowed eight hours of horrific slaughter, rape, torture, abductions, etc., it sadly came as no surprise.
People of Israel, I beseech you. Wake up. Your regime is your mortal enemy. [Emphasis added]

July 13, 2024 at 03:33 PM i24NEWS – Rafa Salama, the commander of Hamas’s Khan Yunis Brigade who was among the targets of Israel’s strike near the Gazan city on Saturday, was killed in the strike and will be brought to a quick burial, Palestinian sources told i24NEWS.
Earlier in the day Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that it targeted Salama along the more prominent Hamas chief Muhammad Deif. The fate of Deif, an arch terrorist who orchestrated many deadly attacks against Israelis beginning in the 1990s, could not be confirmed.
The Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry said the toll from the strike was upward of 90 people with many more wounded; this could not be independently confirmed. Many international observers pointed out that the tolls reported by Hamas — a jihadist and viciously antisemitic terror group — were inflated and inaccurate.

The Israeli strike targeted the supreme commander of Hamas’s military wing Mohammed Deif, an arch terrorist whose history of orchestrating terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians goes back to the 1990s. He played a major role in the October 7 massacres, the worst antisemitic atrocity since the Holocaust.
