UPDATE: BREAKING: President Trump names Jeanine Pirro as the acting U.S. attorney for D.C.
[Ed.: I often criticize his accuracy with appointments and nominations, but I was thinking SCOTUS for Judge Jeanine during his first term, instead of Amy Coney Barrett. This one for DC, at least, will be a good nomination. This could very well be the best news of the day!]
Who is Robert Prevost? The American cardinal who is the new Pope Leo XIV
Chicago-born moderate served in Peru for two decades before taking influential Vatican posts
May 08 2025 The Irish Times – Robert Prevost, the choice of the world’s Catholic cardinals to serve as leader of the 1.4-billion-member Church, is the first pope from the United States and a relative unknown on the global stage.Aged 69 and originally from Chicago, Cardinal Prevost has spent most of his career as a missionary in Peru and became a cardinal only in 2023. He has given few media interviews. He takes the papal name Leo XIV, and succeeds Pope Francis, who had led the Church since 2013.Rev Mark Francis, a friend of Cardinal Prevost’s since the 1970s, said he was a firm supporter of his predecessor’s papacy, and especially of the late pontiff’s commitment to social justice issues.

“He was always friendly and warm and remained a voice of common sense and practical concerns for the Church’s outreach to the poor,” said Fr Francis, who attended seminary with Cardinal Prevost and later knew him when they both lived in Rome in the 2000s.“He has a wry sense of humour, but was not someone who sought the limelight,” said Fr Francis, who leads the US province of the Viatorian religious order.
Robert Prevost first served as a bishop in Chiclayo, in northwestern Peru, from 2015 to 2023, and became a Peruvian citizen in 2015, so he has dual nationalities.Pope Francis brought him to Rome that year to head the Vatican office in charge of choosing which priests should serve as Catholic bishops across the globe, meaning he has had a hand in selecting many of the world’s bishops.Jesus Leon Angeles, coordinator of a Catholic group in Chiclayo who has known Cardinal Prevost since 2018, called him a “very simple” person who would go out of his way to help others.Mr Leon Angeles said Cardinal Prevost had shown special concern for Venezuelan migrants in Peru, saying: “He is a person who likes to help.” More than 1.5 million Venezuelans have moved to Peru in recent years, partly to escape their country’s economic crisis. In a 2023 interview with the Vatican’s news outlet, Cardinal Prevost focused on the importance of evangelization to help the Church grow.[ Papal conclave: live updates
]“We are often preoccupied with teaching doctrine … but we risk forgetting that our first task is to teach what it means to know Jesus Christ,” he said.Cardinal Prevost said during a 2023 Vatican press conference: “Our work is to enlarge the tent and to let everyone know they are welcome inside the Church.”Cardinal Prevost was born in 1955 and is a member of the global Augustinian religious order, which includes about 2,500 priests and brothers, operates in 50 countries and has a special focus on a life of community and equality among its members. He has a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University in Philadelphia, a master’s from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, and a doctorate in Church law from the Pontifical College of St Thomas Aquinas in Rome.Cardinal Prevost first went to Peru as a missionary in 1985, returning to the United States in 1999 to take up a leadership role in his religious order. He later moved to Rome to serve two six-year terms as head of the Augustinians, visiting many of the order’s communities across the world. He is known to speak English, Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese.
Returning to Rome in 2023, Cardinal Prevost generally did not take part in many of the social events that attract Vatican officials throughout the city.Mr Leon Angeles said he is a person with leadership skills, “but at the same time, he knows how to listen. He has that virtue.”“The cardinal has the courtesy to ask for an opinion, even if it’s from the simplest or most humble person,” she said. “He knows how to listen to everyone.”There has never been a pope from the United States, and conventional wisdom suggested that any American would be a long shot.Yet Cardinal Prevost was one American who some Vatican watchers said could scrape together the votes.Rev Michele Falcone (46), a priest in the Order of St. Augustine previously led by Cardinal Prevost, described his mentor and friend as the “dignified middle of the road” to the New York Times earlier this week.“He does not have excesses,” Fr Falcone said of Cardinal Prevost. “Blessing babies, yes. Taking them in his arms, no.”
While praised in Peru for supporting Venezuelan immigrants and visiting far-flung communities, the cardinal has drawn criticism over his dealings with priests accused of sexual abuse. One woman in Chiclayo, who said she and two other women were sexually abused by two priests as girls long before Prevost was bishop, accused him of mishandling an investigation and of not stopping one of the priests from celebrating Mass. The diocese of Chiclayo said Prevost opened an investigation that the Vatican closed. After a new bishop arrived, the investigation was reopened. Supporters of Prevost say he is the target of a smear campaign by members of a Peruvian-based Catholic movement that Francis disbanded. –New York Times and Agencies
Pam Bondi and Kash Patel Announce Arrests of 205 Suspected Child Predators By Lorri Wickenhauser
May 8, 2025 The Western Journal – Federal officials have arrested 205 suspected child sex abuse offenders in a nationwide operation, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.
The program, dubbed “Operation Restore Justice,” was carried out over the space of five days with the combined efforts from each of the 55 FBI field offices and the DOJ’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, according to a news release from the FBI national press office.
The operation also resulted in the rescue of 115 children, according to the FBI.
The suspects are accused of a range of crimes against children, from sex trafficking kids to possessing, producing, and distributing child sex abuse material.
Those arrested in the operation included a Minnesota state trooper who is also an Army reservist. Officials said he is accused of “producing child sexual abuse material while wearing his uniforms.”
“In Norfolk, Virginia, an illegal alien from Mexico is accused of transporting a minor across state lines for sex,” the FBI report added.
And in a case from Washington, D.C., a former Metropolitan Police Department officer was arrested on charges of trafficking minor victims.
In another case, according to the FBI statement, “a California man was arrested about eight hours after a young victim bravely came forward and disclosed their abuse to FBI agents after an online safety presentation at a school near Albany, New York.”

“We’re sending a clear message: there is no place to hide for those who prey on children,” FBI Director Kash Patel said in the news release.
“No predator is out of reach, and no child will be forgotten.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi added, “We will not rest until we hunt down, arrest, and prosecute every child predator who preys on the most vulnerable among us.”
Bondi stressed the importance of parents monitoring their children’s online activity, according to a Fox News report.
“An online predator can find them, I always say it’s from instant message to instant nightmare,” Bondi said.
“They pose as children. They get them sometimes to post explicit pictures of themselves after they talk to them and then in some cases, they even try to blackmail the children.”
There have been so many cases like that, it has led to an increase in the suicide rate among kids 14 to 17, she said.
The FBI news release added a reminder that an indictment “is merely an allegation,” while the “defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.”
The agency asked the public to report suspected exploitation of a child on the FBI’s tipline at 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5324), tips.fbi.gov, or by calling a local FBI field office.
Tips about possible child sexual exploitation can also be given through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children through its 24/7 hotline at 1-800-THE-LOST and on missingkids.org.
🚨 MAJOR BREAKING – SECRET IRANIAN NUCLEAR WEAPONS SITE EXPOSED:
”Rainbow Site” Hidden for Over a Decade — Built for WAR, Not Peace!
May 8, 2025 Jewish Breaking News –
Satellite imagery obtained exclusively by Fox News has revealed what Iranian opposition sources claim is a covert nuclear weapons facility operating deep within Iran’s Semnan Province.
The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) has identified the sprawling 2,500-acre compound as a tritium extraction facility operating under the cover name “Rainbow Site.” According to intelligence gathered from the opposition group’s sources inside Iran, the site has operated for more than a decade while disguised as Diba Energy Siba, a chemical production company.
Intelligence documents provided by the NCRI to Fox News indicate the facility’s primary purpose is extracting tritium, a radioactive isotope crucial for enhancing nuclear weapons. Experts note tritium has virtually no peaceful applications, contradicting Iran’s longstanding position that its nuclear program exists solely for civilian energy purposes.
While the NCRI has successfully identified hidden Iranian nuclear sites in the past, international watchdog organizations have also dismissed several of the group’s claims as unsubstantiated, according to the report.
Neither the Iranian government nor the International Atomic Energy Agency has yet made a statement regarding the now viral images.

Shocking Antarctica discovery sends climate change deniers into mass celebration By CHRIS MELORE
May 7, 2025 Daily Mail – Scientists have made a shocking discovery in Antarctica that has climate change deniers claiming there’s now proof global warming is just a hoax.
Researchers from Tongji University in Shanghai found the frozen continent suddenly reversed its decades-long trend of catastrophic melting and actually gained record amounts of ice in recent years.
Although the Antarctic Ice Sheet had been losing ice at an alarming rate for nearly two decades, between 2002 and 2020, that trend sharply changed in 2021.
From 2021 through 2023, the study found unusually ‘intense snowfall’ in Antarctica helped build up layers of fresh ice, an event that also caused sea level rise to slow as well.
The world’s sea levels have been growing in height as ocean temperatures rise and more glaciers melt due to global warming, threatening to flood major coastal cities worldwide.
Overall, scientists found that this three-year climate reversal cut the annual rise in global sea level rise by nearly 15 percent, a significant difference.
Before this recent change in Antarctica, the study calculated that the ice sheet lost about 120 billion tons of ice per year over the previous two decades. Between 2021 and 2023, the continent gained roughly 108 billion tons of ice each year.
While the researchers noted that the surprising results only reflect a temporary change in Antarctica’s weather patterns that could eventually change back, climate change skeptics quickly pounced on the findings on social media.
‘Ice grew in Antarctica! Climate change is a hoax!’ one person said on X.
‘LOL, climate crisis my butt. Antarctica has more ice now than ever before,’ another climate skeptic wrote.
‘Climate Crisis?’ You mean that there is too much ice building in Antarctica?’ a sarcastic X user added.
The scientists who made the discovery found that, between 2021 and 2023, abnormal weather patterns brought more moisture to the continent, especially the Eastern half of Antarctica.
These patterns were likely caused by shifts in winds or storms, possibly influenced by climate changes, but the study authors made sure to note that this change was an ‘unprecedented’ event.
Despite the historic gains in ice growth throughout Antarctica from 2021 to 2023, the study revealed that the continent suffered a net loss of 1.848 trillion tons of ice over the last two decades.
This ice loss added about 5.99 millimeters (roughly a quarter of an inch) to global sea levels by February 2020.
The connection between snow melting and sea level rise has real consequences. Rising sea levels can flood coastal cities, erode beaches, and harm ecosystems.
Recent studies have argued that climate change is the major driving factor for flooding problems in major cities like New Orleans, which is now sinking as that entire Gulf Coast area erodes.
In fact, climate scientists have warned that the rising sea levels triggered by melting Antarctic glaciers has now put over two dozen cities at higher risk of sinking over the next three decades.
Despite the evidence that climate change is doing widespread damage, a University of Cambridge professor said skeptics still have a valid argument about so-called ‘climate alarmists.’
Mike Hulme told DailyMail.com that climate alarmists have created so much distrust and ill will among the public by blaming almost all of society’s issues on the climate emergency.
‘Climate change is cited as the sole explanation for everything going wrong in the world. Drought, famine, flooding, wars, racism – you name it. And if it’s bad, it’s down to global warming caused by humans,’ Professor Hulme said.
‘I disagree with the doom-mongers. Climate change is not like a comet approaching Earth. There is no good scientific or historical evidence that it will lead to human extinction or the collapse of human civilization,’ the professor of human geography added.
To Hulme’s point, the new study revealed a much more complicated picture of what’s happening at the South Pole.
While this study and others have uncovered trends linked to climate change, such as ice melting speeding up and oceans becoming hotter, the same research can find wild swings where temperatures drop and appear to debunk those trends.
From 2021 through 2023, scientists said the main reason Antarctica was able to rebuild so much of its ice was because of ‘large precipitation anomalies’ – or massive snow totals that can’t be counted on year after year.
Just like in other regions that get snow throughout the world, blizzards don’t strike every single year like clockwork, which is why the scientists believe this reversal may be a temporary event.
While climate deniers are taking a victory lap right now, the study published in Science China Earth Sciences still showed a concerning trend developing throughout the 21st century.
The study noted that the second decade of the 21st century (2011-2020) saw twice as much ice loss compared to the first (2002-2010).
This dramatic increase in melting was driven by ice loss in West Antarctica and increasing losses in East Antarctica’s Wilkes Land and Queen Mary Land.
Meanwhile, the stunning turnaround between 2021 and 2023 was driven by massive snowfalls in East Antarctica, particularly in areas like Dronning Maud Land and Enderby Land. This also helped driven down sea level rise to 5.10 millimeters by 2023.
Despite gaining ice overall, West Antarctica actually continued to lose ice due to warm ocean water melting glaciers from below – contributing to sea level rise.
The study estimated that if all the ice in East Antarctica’s Wilkes Land melted, it could raise sea levels by over 171 feet.
Even smaller losses, like those from the continent’s Totten glacier (12.8 feet of potential rise), could have major impacts around the world.

Alberta Separatists Push to Leave Canada After Liberals Win Election
By: Newsweek, May 03, 2025:
[…]
Donald Trump is not the only person who wants to change Canada’s landscape. Some Albertans frustrated with almost decade of Liberal power want independence from the country, and Cameron Davies, a leader of the breakaway movement, told Newsweek why.
The province, along with several others in the west, has long seen itself as unfairly treated by Ottawa. Its oil and gas resources make it a huge economic contributor, but many feel underrepresented in the capital, especially over environmental policies which regulate its resource industry.
But the push for an independence referendum has seemingly stepped up in the wake of the Liberal Party’s victory of the Conservatives on Monday night, making former Bank of England boss Mark Carney prime minister.
This is perhaps best illustrated in Cameron Davies’ decision to quit as leader of the United Conservative Party (UCP) of Alberta, which he has served for more than seven years, to take over as the head of the independence-supporting Republican Party of Alberta.
“Today is the birthday of many new separatists in Alberta,” Davies said in his announcement after the election results.
“Albertans keep working harder while getting less in return,” Davies told Newsweek. “I watched the UCP fold time and again under Ottawa’s pressure instead of standing up for Alberta’s interests.”
“It became clear to me that we need a new path forward—one that puts Albertans first, always,” he added.
[…]Davies, described by the Alberta Republicans as “a proud Albertan, veteran, and former oil patch worker” who “represents the hardworking spirit of the province,” is one of multiple politicians backing the call for a referendum.
“This isn’t about anger, it’s about forging our own path and seeking our own future. Alberta contributes more than we get back, year after year,” he said. “We’re rich in resources, rich in talent, and rich in potential, yet we’re held back by a system that doesn’t serve us.”
“I’m backing the idea of an independent Alberta because I believe we deserve full control over our future—our policies, our borders, our prosperity,” he added. “This conversation isn’t radical. It’s responsible.”
Will There Be an Alberta Independence Referendum?
When Newsweek asked Smith’s office this question directly, it was referred to Smith’s comments about Bill 54, legislation she filed the day after Carney’s victory, which would essentially make it easier for the province to hold a binding referendum.
“The legislation applies to all questions, we want to make fairness across the board,” she told a news conference on Thursday. “I’m not going to prejudge what the citizens are going to put forward for a question.”
“Remember, the purpose of a referendum is to let every single Albertan have a say on matters of important public policy,” she added.
Bill 54 has breathed new life into this question, proposing halving the threshold for a citizen-led referendum to 10 percent of people who voted in the last election and extends the duration of collecting those signatures to 120 days from 90.
Smith argues that while the threshold “needs to be high, it also needs to be achievable.”
She cited California as an example of a place that has “the most successful opportunity for citizens to engage in the process,” where measures on rent control and legalization of marijuana require between five and eight percent of the vote to qualify as ballot questions.
