Holocaust Survivor Learns Her Great-Grandson Was Killed in Gaza While Visiting the Death Camp She Survived

April 25, 2025 Jewish Breaking News – In a heartbreaking convergence of history and present-day conflict, Master Sgt. (Res.) Asaf Kafri, 26, was killed in northern Gaza by sniper fire yesterday, at the very moment his 96-year-old great-grandmother, Magda Baratz, a Holocaust survivor, was visiting the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp where she had been imprisoned during World War II.

Magda was attending a Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony at Bergen-Belsen as a guest of honor, accompanied by her grandson Haggai, Asaf’s father. Unaware of the tragedy that had just befallen their family, they returned to Israel to learn of Asaf’s death.

Asaf, a tank driver in the IDF’s 79th Battalion of the 14th Armored Brigade, was killed during an operational mission in the Beit Hanoun area of the northern Gaza Strip. According to the IDF, around 1:45 p.m., a Hamas cell launched an anti-tank missile and opened sniper fire at IDF troops positioned at Outpost 39, near Outpost 40. Asaf was fatally struck by sniper fire. Three other soldiers were wounded in the same incident, including two in serious condition—an officer from the elite Yahalom unit and a reservist from Battalion 79.

Asaf was the eldest of four brothers—Yoav, Itay, and Idan. He was studying engineering at Ariel University, having graduated from Herzog High School in Beit Hashmonai and attended Sdot Ayalon elementary school. He was also active in the Tzofim youth movement’s Shevet Lahav chapter.

WATCH  [4:46]

His aunt, Hadas, spoke of his dedication: “This was his fourth round of reserve duty. On October 7, he put on his uniform and headed south. He never hesitated. He felt it was his generation’s turn to serve and protect. He always said, ‘It’s our duty to give of ourselves and defend the country.’ He believed he was fighting to bring the hostages home.”

Hadas also shared the poignant detail that Asaf had spoken to his partner, Lihi, just hours before his death. “He kept going in and out of Gaza,” she said. “Lihi knew he was inside, but told herself that as long as no one came to the door, he must be okay—and then came the knock.”

Reflecting on Magda’s return to Bergen-Belsen, Hadas said, “She said going back to the place where she almost died, this time with a family she built in Israel, was her personal triumph.”

Asaf’s funeral is scheduled for Sunday at the cemetery in the Gezer Regional Council. Council head Rotem Yadlin expressed the community’s grief: “The residents of the Gezer Regional Council stand with the Kafri family and the Beit Hashmonai community in their immense grief. May his memory be a blessing.”

May the memory of Master Sgt. Asaf Kafri forever be a blessing.

[Ed.:  This could not be a mere ‘coincidence’!  Why is it that Hashem chose that very moment for Asaf’s death while he was fighting Arabs in Gaza and his 96-year old grandmother was attending a Holocaust Memorial ceremony at the concentration camp where she was interned? Methinks Hashem is once again very disappointed in His people who are ruled by secular leftists who are still sending soldiers to die in a war that should have been successfully terminated in a few hours.  Hashem is telling us something, but can we hear it?]

🎯 TERROR ATTACK FOILED: ARMED ISLAMIC JIHAD OPERATIVE EN ROUTE TO STRIKE ARRESTED IN QALQILYA BY GIDEONIM UNIT AND SHIN BET

April 25, 2025  Israel Realtime

❌️ In a coordinated operation, the Gideonim Unit of Lahav 433, guided by Shin Bet and supported by IDF forces, arrested an armed terrorist in Qalqilya located in Samaria. The suspect, a known Islamic Jihad operative, was working in coordination with additional Hamas terrorists from the area and was on his way to execute an attack. During the operation, M16 rifles intended for use by the terror cell were confiscated. In recent days, other terrorists linked to the plot have also been detained and are currently under investigation.

🎯 How the IDF Identifies Terrorists After Airstrikes: Questions & Answers:

Q: How does the IDF know who was killed in an airstrike?

A: The IDF relies on a mix of real-time intelligence, aerial surveillance (including drones and satellite imagery), and post-strike analysis. This includes reviewing live feeds and intercepted communications, all cross-checked with existing intelligence files that detail names, photos, and roles of known terrorists.

Q: How do they already know the names and personal details of these terrorists?

A: Israeli intelligence agencies like the IDF Intelligence Directorate and ISA (Shin Bet) maintain comprehensive terrorist databases. After the October 7 attack, data was expanded using security footage, drone recordings, and civilian videos, helping to identify faces, names, units, and specific acts committed by those who crossed into Israel.

Q: How is a strike confirmed to have hit the intended target?

A: Confirmation comes from layered sources: real-time drone footage, aerial reconnaissance, sensor alerts, human intelligence (informants or agents), and digital signal interception. Personal belongings like phones or weapons can also aid in verifying the identity of the eliminated terrorist.

Q: How can the IDF be certain that the individual targeted was involved in terrorism?

A: The IDF only releases a name after confirming verified intelligence. This includes documented roles in attacks, communications with other terrorists, and corroborated information from previous investigations or operations.

Q: How is it possible to track thousands of participants from the October 7 attack?

A: Despite the scale, Israel has made significant progress using facial recognition, digital tracking, intelligence sharing, and data from various surveillance sources. This has allowed the IDF to systematically identify and continue targeting those involved in the October 7 massacre.

Example: How the IDF Identifies Terrorists After an Airstrike: After an Israeli Air Force strike on a Hamas command center in Khan Younis, the IDF confirmed the elimination of Mohammed Al-Khatib, a senior terrorist in Hamas’ Nukhba force. Here’s how they verified it:

1. Pre-Strike Intelligence

Al-Khatib was under weeks-long surveillance, identified through a mix of SIGINT and HUMINT linking him to rocket attacks and tunnel operations during the October 7 massacre.

2. Real-Time Monitoring

Drones confirmed his presence during the strike, while intercepted communications indicated a high-level Hamas meeting was underway in the building.

3. Post-Strike Verification

Footage showed the site destroyed. Radio chatter captured Hamas members referring to “the martyr Al-Khatib” and rushing to secure sensitive materials.

4. Evidence Recovery & Confirmation

His encrypted device stopped transmitting after the strike. Facial recognition from video footage also confirmed his identity.

5. Public Confirmation

Only after cross-verifying multiple sources did the IDF announce:

“Mohammed Al-Khatib, a senior Nukhba terrorist involved in the October 7 attack, was eliminated in a precision airstrike.”

This layered process ensures the IDF only releases names when the intelligence is solid—reducing misinformation and reinforcing credibility.

Holocaust Memorial Day: Hod Hasharon Mayor’s shameful speech

Mayor of Hod Hasharon Amir Kochavi speaks at the Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony and compares Nazi horrors to IDF’s activities in Gaza.

Apr 24, 2025, 4:03 PM (GMT+3)  Israel National News

The Mayor of Hod Hasharon, Amir Kochavi, spoke on Wednesday at the Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony held by the municipality. He hinted at the IDF’s activities in the Gaza Strip and compared them to the values set by the Holocaust.

“We must never remain silent in the face of atrocities committed against people of other nationalities around the world,” said Kochavi, “even if they are committed in our name. Jewish morality dictates, ‘never again’ not only against us, but against all nations, as a moral and ethical imperative of a moral and healthy society.”

“Auschwitz was not created by the devil or by God – but by man,” Kochavi said, quoting Ka Tsetnik. “Fifty-nine of our brothers and sisters are still in Gaza captivity. Their ‘never again’ still continues. The lust for revenge, blood, and destruction has never brought back the dead – nor the living.”

He added: “As descendants of Holocaust survivors who, together with other pioneers, established the Jewish state, we must ensure that the memory of the Holocaust, the processes that led to it, the legal and ethical justifications given to it, and the silence that accompanied it, all serve as a warning sign to the entire world. For us too, so that we may remember and be careful.”

Following public outrage, Kochavi wrote on X: “The ugly responses to my words are intended to make people forget that there are fifty-nine men and women, who have been held hostage in Hamas captivity for 565 days by the Prime Minister, on whose watch they were kidnapped. They must now be returned, in one phase, the dead for burial and the living for rehabilitation. Anything else is diverting attention from the main issue.”

Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman MK Avigdor Lieberman attacked Kochavi, saying, “On Holocaust Memorial Day, while fifty-nine hostages are languishing in the inferno of Gaza, the mayor of Hod Hasharon, Amir Kochavi, is inciting against the IDF and is actually siding with the terrorists.” Liberman called on Yair Lapid to condemn the speech: “I expect Yair Lapid, whose party Kochavi identifies with, to immediately rebuke these remarks.”

Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar responded, saying that these comments were “a spit in the face of Holocaust survivors, those who immigrated to Israel, established a state and survived the terrible massacre that was committed by other people.” Minister Zohar added: “I have no doubt that the vast majority of Hod Hasharon residents renounce these outrageous statements.”

MK Ahmed Tibi Praised Kochavi: “Well done, whoever attacks you today will join you in a few years’ time.

[Ed.:  …And God created assholes!

Bereaved parents announce hunger strike demanding Bar’s dismissal   Hezki Baruch

As Israel lowers its flag to half-mast, bereaved parents voice sincere appeal for accountability, truth, justice: ‘We will not forget. We will not forgive. We will not remain silent.’

Apr 23, 2025, 2:55 PM (GMT+3)  Israel National News – A collective of bereaved parents affiliated with the “Din and Tzedek” Forum, which unites the families of victims murdered at the Nova music festival, will commence a hunger strike on Wednesday in front of the Knesset and the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem.

This action is being launched in proximity to Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day and marks eighteen months since the massacre perpetrated by Hamas, during which their children lost their lives. The families are calling for accountability in light of what they describe as severe lapses and failures that enabled the tragic events at the Nova music festival in southern Israel.

The group is demanding the immediate dismissal of Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar, whom they hold responsible for the failure to safeguard Israeli civilians. Furthermore, they are calling for the creation of an external, independent, and self-sustaining investigative body. This body, they assert, must not be state-appointed nor headed by the High Court of Justice. Rather, it should possess full investigative authority, include representatives of the bereaved families, and be capable of uncovering the full scope of the truth.

In addition, the Forum insists upon a thorough investigation of all involved entities and leadership levels, including but not limited to the IDF, Shin Bet, police, Mossad, the Attorney General’s Office, legal advisors, and policymakers from recent years, without exemption.

“The entire system has failed, and it is inconceivable that no one will be held accountable. Relying on an investigative mechanism led by those who were themselves responsible for these failures constitutes a mockery of our children’s memory,” the Forum stated.

“On the day the State of Israel lowers its flag to half-mast, the bereaved parents will lower their bodies to half-mast—not as a symbolic act, but as a sincere appeal for accountability, truth, and justice. We will not forget. We will not forgive. We will not remain silent,” the statement concluded.

Trump marks Holocaust Remembrance Day: Never again means now

On Yom Hashoah, US President issues solemn proclamation honoring the victims of the Holocaust, condemning rising antisemitism, and reaffirming the US commitment to Holocaust remembrance and the defense of Israel.

Apr 24, 2025, 3:24 AM (GMT+3)  Israel National News – In a formal proclamation released on Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday paid tribute to the six million Jews and millions of other innocent victims murdered by the Nazis during one of history’s darkest chapters.

“We honor the blessed memories of the six million Jewish men, women, and children who were viciously slaughtered by the genocidal Nazi regime and their collaborators,” Trump stated.

The proclamation recalled the solemn commemoration earlier this year of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. “We memorialized the lives of the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, grandmothers, and grandfathers whose futures were barbarically ripped away in Nazi-occupied Europe,” Trump said.

Emphasizing the enduring responsibility to remember, he added, “We once again honor every Holocaust survivor who has imparted their wisdom to younger generations. Today and every day, we commit to preserving their stories.”

Trump reflected on the enduring legacy of the Holocaust and the birth of modern Israel: “Even in the wake of the Holocaust, a self-determined Jewish homeland rose from the ashes as the modern State of Israel.”

However, the President warned that the threat of antisemitism remains present. “Sadly, our Nation has borne witness to the worst outbreak of antisemitism on American soil in generations,” he said, referring to the aftermath of the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on Israel. “Nearly every day following the deadly…attack on Israel, Jewish Americans were threatened on our streets and in our public square.”

Trump highlighted his administration’s actions to combat antisemitism. “As President, I signed an Executive Order directing the Federal Government to use all available and appropriate legal tools to combat the explosion of antisemitic harassment in our schools and on college campuses — including through the removal of resident aliens who violate our laws,” he stated.

He also denounced antisemitic discrimination “in leftist, anti-American colleges and universities.”

Concluding with a resolute call to remembrance and vigilance, Trump declared, “We cherish the eternal memories of all those whose lives were lost to the deadly scourge of antisemitism. Above all, we vow to never forget the atrocities of the Holocaust. We declare that never again means now.”

The targets included cells of armed operatives and Hamas infrastructure. Since March 18, when Israel restarted its offensive against Hamas, the IDF says it has hit over 1,400 targets throughout Gaza.

The 282nd Artillery Regiment has also been active in recent weeks, conducting strikes in the Morag Corridor between Rafah and Khan Younis. According to the IDF, the regiment targeted weapons storage facilities, rocket launching areas, and groups of operatives.

Additionally, over the weekend, the 188th Armored Brigade, currently deployed in the Morag Corridor, reportedly killed more than 40 terrorists and destroyed a significant number of weapons along with a Hamas pickup truck.

In Rafah’s Shaboura camp, the military says forces from the Givati Brigade and the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit discovered and dismantled a tunnel rigged with explosives. The tunnel extended hundreds of meters underground, the IDF said.
