Israeli Gov’t Appoints Director To Oversee Lev Tahor Child Victims
May 28, 2025 Yeshiva World News
The Knesset’s Committee on Immigration, Absorption, and Diaspora Affairs on Wednesday held its ninth follow-up discussion on the involvement of the Israeli government in the rescue of children from the Lev Tahor cult in Guatemala.
Lev Tahor cult in Guatemala.
The Welfare Ministry has appointed an employee to the position of field director who will be responsible for Lev Tahor child victims when they arrive in Israel.
During the meeting, the committee requested to receive an official document detailing the preparations of welfare authorities for the absorption of Lev Tahor cult survivors in Israel.
Orit Cohen Amir, a representative of the families of Lev Tahor victims, said: “You can see that things are moving in the Guatemalan government and judicial system. I feel that there is more hope today for the children and their family members. However, many children and survivors have nowhere to go in Israel. Every cult survivor needs to know that they have a home to live in. It is very important to bring the survivors to Israel, but it is even more important to ensure their rehabilitation when they arrive in the country.”
Attorney Meirav Marx from the Foreign Ministry said, “We are in the final stretch of signing an agreement with the Jewish Agency. We are making great efforts to recruit suitable people for the dedicated positions to manage the project of returning the cult survivors to Israel.”
Exclusive: Netanyahu’s Gaza War Plan Shows Lack of ‘Serious Intent’ To Defeat Hamas, Say Coalition Lawmakers Andrew Tobin
May 28, 2025 Free Beacon – TEL AVIV—Seven lawmakers from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ruling coalition say the latest Gaza war plan does “not reflect a serious intent to defeat Hamas and achieve victory,” according to a letter obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
In the two-page letter, sent to senior Israeli officials on May 5 and not previously reported, the lawmakers called for “a basic change in the military’s operational plan” in the Gaza Strip, warning that the current strategy is “flawed in conception, disconnected from the real capabilities of the enemy, and based on assumptions that will cost many lives before achieving questionable results.” “Only through total defeat of Hamas can we restore deterrence and win the war,” the lawmakers added.
Amit Halevi, Ariel Kallner, and Hanoch Milwidsky of Netanyahu’s Likud Party, Ohad Tal and Michael Woldiger of Religious Zionism, and Limor Son Har-Melech Otzma Yehudit addressed the letter to military chief of staff Eyal Zamir and copied Netanyahu, defense minister Israel Katz, and Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman Yuli Edelstein.
The letter—sent just hours before Israel’s security cabinet approved Operation Gideon’s Chariots, the recently launched phase of the military campaign in Gaza—is a signal of growing internal skepticism about government and military leaders’ commitment to wrest control of Gaza from Hamas. At the same time, the leadership faces mounting domestic and international pressure to end the war.
Halevi, a member of the influential Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee until his ouster last week, said in an interview that Israel’s war plan cannot accomplish full security control of Gaza or “total victory” over Hamas as promised by Netanyahu.
“Just as you can’t be half pregnant, there is no such thing as half control or half victory,” Halevi said. “In order to achieve total victory, as the prime minister defines it, we must surround or kill Hamas. And in order to do that, we need to take full control of Hamas’s resources.”
Halevi and his fellow lawmakers wrote that Hamas “continues to rule in large parts of the strip,” maintains its “civilian control infrastructure and military capacity in key strongholds,” and still controls food distribution in parts of Gaza—”under the army’s nose.” They called the military’s failure to destroy Hamas’s tunnel system in Rafah an “incomprehensible” strategic failure that is allowing thousands of terrorists to remain underground.
The letter has yet to receive an official response, according to Halevi. Six of the signatories declined public comment, but several, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed frustration that the letter had leaked. Representatives for Netanyahu, Katz, Edelstein, and the military also declined to comment.
Last week, Halevi was removed from the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee after voting against an extension of wartime conscription powers. He said he could not support deploying more soldiers under the war plan, which he said unnecessarily risked their lives and squandered their sacrifices.
Katz later attacked Halevi in an internal Likud chat, comparing him to leftist firebrand Yair Golan, who recently claimed Israeli soldiers were “killing babies as a hobby”—a comment he later walked back. Katz accused Halevi of spreading a “blood libel” against military commanders.
Israeli officials have in recent days characterized Operation Gideon’s Chariots as a major step toward a decisive end to the war. Military officials this week told reporters that Israel plans to take control of 75 percent of Gaza within two months, up from about 40 percent today. They said that only about 25 percent of Hamas’s tunnel network has been destroyed during nearly 20 months of fighting in Gaza.
According to Israeli intelligence assessments, more than 20,000 Hamas operatives have been killed in the war, including all but three of the senior leaders behind the October 7 massacre. But Hamas has replenished its ranks with 10,000 to 15,000 new recruits and replaced many of its commanders.
At least 10 Israeli soldiers have been killed and 13 wounded in Gaza so far this month.
In a press conference last week, Netanyahu said that “at the end of this process, all of the Gaza Strip will be under Israeli security control, and Hamas will be completely defeated.” He defended the measured pace of the war, saying it was necessary to protect both hostages held in Gaza and Israeli soldiers.
“It won’t take a year and a half,” he said of the war. “I promise you that.”
Intra-coalition tensions have escalated since Netanyahu agreed to resume humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza earlier this month. Israeli national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir, the head of Otzma Yehudit, called the decision “insanity,” saying, “This is not how you defeat Hamas.”
Israeli finance minister Bezalel Smotrich defended the aid as a necessary concession to maintain international support, though the letter suggested disagreement within his Religious Zionism party.
A new humanitarian aid distribution mechanism backed by the United States and Israel launched in Gaza on Monday but immediately ran into trouble. One of the new food distribution centers in Rafah was overrun by Gazans, forcing a temporary suspension of operations. Meanwhile, aid continued to flow into Hamas-controlled areas, raising doubts about Israel’s ability to sever ties between Hamas and the civilian population.
Amir Avivi, a former Israeli brigadier general who has advised the government and military on the war, said Israel is in the second phase of a three-phase war plan: systematically conquering and destroying 75 percent of Gaza while relocating the population to a humanitarian zone in Rafah. He said the last 25 percent—where Hamas’s leadership is believed to be concentrated—will be dealt with in the third phase if necessary.
“You might see Hamas collapse before you need to conquer the last meter,” Avivi said. “Once you kill the leadership, move the population, and impose a siege—then it’s game over.”
Avivi said Netanyahu is committed to the Trump-backed “day after” plan, which envisions Gaza residents voluntarily leaving the territory. But skepticism has grown on the right that Netanyahu intends to “go all the way,” as the prime minster vowed last week.
Ran Baratz, a former senior Netanyahu adviser and a teacher at the military’s war colleges, said Israel missed its window to destroy Hamas early in the war. Now, Baratz said, Netanyahu appears to be continuing the war in hopes of improving the terms of an eventual U.S.-imposed ceasefire agreement.
“I think [Netanyahu] is looking for a compensation prize, and he stalls until he gets something that he can show the public,” Baratz said. “Best scenario from his perspective: [agreements that cover] Iran’s nuclear program, Saudi normalization, the return of the hostages, and America runs Gaza.”
According to Baratz, Israel’s threats to reoccupy Gaza are “something between a bluff and a signal” of commitment.
“You escalate your announcements, and then you do something—not the whole thing, but something,” he said. “It’s a negotiation.”
Halevi said that despite his concerns, he remains hopeful that Israel’s leaders will choose to win the war—starting with the adoption of a new plan.
“We can win this,” he said. “But it has to be serious. The current plan isn’t different from what we had before. It’s not enough.”

⭕5:00 AM HOUTHI MISSILE target was .. Yanun, an Arab village in Samaria??? Alarms throughout eastern Samaria & northern Jordan Valley towns. Intercepted. And as previously reported, a 2nd missile was fired 2 hours later, some reports say intercepted, some say didn’t make it to Israel – no alarms.
⭕7:15 AM ROCKET at Nir Am (near Gaza town) fired from GAZA – FALSE ALARM.
▪️THE LEGAL FIGHT OVER THE SHIN BET HEAD CONTINUES – The Attorney General to the Prime Minister: The Prime Minister is in a conflict of interest situation and cannot engage in the appointment of the head of the Shin Bet. Given the vital interest that the Government of Israel appoint the head of the Shin Bet, the opinion includes a legal outline that allows for the immediate advancement of a new and proper appointment process. The decision must be transferred to another minister who did not express his opinion on Zini’s appointment, and states that there is a concern that he will be a rubber stamp.
It also states that a legal representative must be present, including documentation of the meeting –
Amit Segal – unprecedented and not anchored in written law. In one sentence, the fact that Netanyahu wants to appoint someone disqualifies him from the position.
Prime Minister’s spokesman on ‘Kol BeRama’: ”The Prime Minister is going with Zini’s appointment to the end.’’
▪️ON HAREDI RECRUITMENT – Rabbi Lando in a letter published in the haredi paper Yated Ne’eman: ‘If Torah students are forcibly recruited, we will be forced to take actions that we do not desire. ⚠️ WINDOW CLOSING ON ISRAEL STRIKE OPTION AS IRAN THREATENS DEVASTATING RESPONSE TO ANY ATTACK
May 27, 2025 Israel Realtime
🟥 Israel reportedly believes the window for a successful strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities is closing rapidly. U.S. President Trump is concerned that Prime Minister Netanyahu may act unilaterally and attack Iran without American coordination. In a recent call between the two leaders, Trump made it clear that he seeks a diplomatic solution with Iran and believes he can reach an agreement to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Iran, in response, has issued a wave of threats. IRGC spokesperson Alimohammad Naini warned, “If the delusional Zionist regime dares to commit a foolish act of aggression, it will receive a devastating and decisive response within its own weak and small territory.” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi mocked Israeli threats as “laughable” and warned that if Israel attacks, “we will consider the US a partner in it — whether it is directly involved or not.” He also stressed that Israel is incapable of acting regionally without U.S. backing.
Iranian military leaders echoed the threats. Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri stated that “any American adventure in the region will lead to a fate similar to that of Afghanistan and Vietnam.” Commander-in-Chief Abdolrahim Mousavi declared that Iran is fully prepared to confront another “True Promise” and will deliver a “decisive and justified response” if provoked.
Nuclear negotiations are also teetering on the edge. According to two Iranian sources quoted by CNN, talks are unlikely to succeed as the U.S. demands Iran dismantle its uranium enrichment program — a demand Tehran refuses. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Iran is open to compromise, but uranium enrichment is “non-negotiable.” He added, “If the intention is to ensure the nuclear program is not weaponized, we can cooperate. But if the goal is to deprive Iranians of peaceful nuclear energy, that is very problematic.”
In a formal letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Araghchi issued a direct warning: “Any Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities will be considered U.S. involvement.” He emphasized that Iran’s response will be “forceful and proportionate,” and that Tehran “will stop at nothing to protect its interests and people.”
🎗️ Negotiations are reportedly advancing for the release of Israeli-Russian researcher Elizabeth Tsurkov, who has been held captive in Iraq. According to Iraqi outlet Al-Rabiaa, the proposed deal involves the release of seven detainees by Iraq in exchange—one Iranian national and six individuals accused of attacks on American interests.
Sources told Amjad Media that the six individuals include Hezbollah members, notably Imad Amhaz, a Lebanese naval officer captured by the IDF in a special November operation and believed to be linked to Hezbollah. The Iranian prisoner expected to be released is Mohammadreza Nouri, an IRGC Quds Force member sentenced to life in September 2023 for masterminding the assassination of American citizen Stephen Troell in Baghdad in 2022. That attack was reportedly in retaliation for the U.S. killing of IRGC commander Qassem Soleimani and PMF leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in 2020.

SHOCKING: Ex-Leader Of Hostages Forum: “They Only Work With Families With Anti-Bibi Views”
May 26, 2025 Yeshiva World News – ‘It is well-known in Israel that the Hostages and Missing Families Forum is run by leftists, and in many ways, the organization’s activities are a continuation of the pre-October 7 protests against the Netanyahu government and his so-called plan to “crush democracy.”
What is less well known is the extent of the organization’s politicization, which was recently revealed by one of the organization’s founders, Liat Bell Sommer, who has since left the organization.
Before October 7, Bell Sommer was a leftist herself, a self-described “Kaplanist who burned the Ayalon.” Following the massacre, she had a desire to help the families of the hostages, and she volunteered to work at the Hostages Forum. And as one may think, her desire to help was not related to her political views.
“I came to work with everybody,” she recently told 124 News [Hebrew]. “I didn’t care who they voted for. Hamas didn’t choose to abduct people according to whether they were right-wing, left-wing, religious, or non-religious.”
However, she described that she gradually realized that her fellow employees and volunteers were there to advance their own agendas and would even only work with families of hostages with left-wing political views.
She continued: “At one point, I realized that there’s a family there who had a huge story, the Samerano family. Their son Yonatan, H’yd, the son of Ayelet and Kobi, was murdered on October 7, and his body was abducted by a UNWRA social worker in a UN vehicle.”
“This story remained behind the scenes for months because of the political views of the Samerano family,” she said.
“At a certain point, we began to lose the international audience,” she said, meaning that the world was no longer siding with Israel against the UN’s complicity in the massacre. “Despite this fact, no one would agree to publicize the Samerano story,” she added.
“At a certain point, I decided that I, the Kaplanist, would take it upon myself. I held press conferences at the headquarters, and we publicized the story. We traveled all over the world with the story—to Switzerland, to Paris, to the UN —to explain how guilty the UN was. If it wasn’t for me, this story would still be unknown due to the political views of the victim.”
The interviewer interjected: “So are you saying that the Hostages Forum operated out of political considerations?”
“That’s exactly what I’m saying,” she replied. “Despite the fact that this issue involved saving people’s lives, they operated and are still operating out of personal political interests—until today.”
Bell Sommer added that the Samerano family was not the only one with whom the Forum refused to work. It should be noted that she explained in the interview that there was no official policy dictating this policy or overt statements about it, but in practice, that’s how it worked.
“We’ve turned into our own enemies,” she said sadly. “Already before October 7 but definitely after October 7.”

A-G Wages War Against Bnei Yeshivos: “Hit Them In Their Bank Accounts”
May 26, 2025 Yeshiva World News – Attorney-General Gali Barharav Miara on Monday called to implement personal sanctions against draft evaders, including financial sanctions and bans from leaving the country and holding a driver’s license, and announced that draft orders will soon be sent to tens of thousands of bnei yeshivos.
Speaking at the Israel Bar Association’s annual conference, she claimed that the non-conscription of bnei yeshivos “harms equality in the most blatant way” and “mortally wounds the basic sense of justice.”
She then called to increase and deepen sanctions against drafter evaders, emphasizing: “Effective sanctions must be personal. As explained by security officials, the sanctions must meet the individual in his personal life, at the airport, in the bank account, in the use of a car, and so on.”
“In contrast to personal sanctions, community sanctions are not perceived by professional sources as having a similar potential impact. They do not direct the behavior of the individuals themselves.”
She then outlined three steps of her plan to increase army recruits, with the first step being “a very significant increase in the scope of conscription orders.”
“Step two – exhausting the existing military enforcement tools regarding evaders,” she continued. “Step three – expanding the basket of sanctions and incentives regarding evaders.”
“Additional significant enforcement measures can be advanced in government decisions, without legislation,” she claimed. “The matter is in the hands of the ministerial echelon.”
She continued: “The Chief of Staff has instructed the army to formulate a plan for a significant increase in the scope of conscription orders and the exhaustion of existing enforcement tools. I welcome this. I understand that the plan is supposed to be presented within a short time. Regarding the expansion of sanctions, so far, the government has refrained from advancing the issue. This conduct is inconsistent with the needs of the army and with the constitutional right of equality.”
In her speech, Baharav-Miara also slammed the current government’s “contempt and defiance of the law” and its “harm to the judicial authority.”
“Under the cover of the war, disregard for the law is felt,” she said. “This is not a warning regarding the future, this is the reality in practice.”
She described the democratically elected government as a “regime,” saying that “the regime is changing before our eyes, and a central aspect of the change is the systematic weakening of checks and balances. What is particularly dangerous is the ongoing harm to the judicial authority and its independence.”
She claimed that an independent judicial authority is “the pillar for preventing abuse of governmental power in Israel “and the “weakening of democracy.”
[Ed.: The problem is that we have a post-menopausal Attorney General who is a political activist. I’d like to hit her where it hurts!!]
Attorney General: ‘The regime is changing right before our eyes’
The Attorney General warned of a decline in the rule of law under the pretext of national security.
May 26, 2025, 11:30 AM (GMT+3) Israel National News – Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara strongly refuted allegations of non-cooperation with the government during remarks made at a Bar Association conference, asserting that her office continues to uphold its legal responsibilities while navigating an increasingly fraught political landscape.
“The claim that we are not cooperating with the government is disconnected from reality,” Baharav-Miara said. She emphasized that while coordination with elected officials is essential for advancing government initiatives, it does not absolve legal advisers of their duty to ensure policies comply with the law.
Baharav-Miara warned of a decline in the rule of law under the pretext of national security. “Under the guise of war, the disdain for the law is noticeable; this is not a warning regarding the future, this is the reality in practice,” she stated.
She expressed deep concern over what she described as a transformation of the country’s political regime, highlighting the erosion of key democratic safeguards. “The regime is changing before our eyes, and a central aspect of the change is the systematic weakening of the checks and balances,” she said, adding that attacks on judicial independence are “particularly dangerous.”
Underscoring the judiciary’s role as a crucial safeguard against the abuse of power, the Attorney General warned that any attempt to undermine its independence could result in lasting damage to Israel’s democratic foundations. “There is no effective alternative address for a citizen who has been harmed to seek relief,” she said.
Baharav-Miara also criticized the increasing politicization of judicial appointments, cautioning that such trends could erode both public trust and the professionalism of the legal system.
She commended the ongoing work of legal advisers and judicial officials, stressing their critical role in defending the rule of law amid heightened security and social pressures.

🎗️ HOSTAGE DEAL TALKS DELAY ISRAELI GAZA OPERATION AS U.S. PUSHES FOR CEASEFIRE
May 26, 2025 Israel Realtime
📌 Despite Israel’s statements about an impending large-scale operation in Gaza, there is currently no active ground combat. The IDF remains mostly on hold, conducting targeted airstrikes and responding to isolated attacks, but no broad offensive has begun.
🎗️ The Trump administration has asked Israel to postpone a major ground operation to allow time for ongoing hostage deal negotiations. U.S. officials are reportedly in direct contact with Hamas, aiming to secure a ceasefire and the release of 10 hostages along with 16 bodies in exchange for “Palestinian” prisoners. According to Sky News Arabia, President Trump is expected to announce a Gaza ceasefire within days. An Egyptian source claims the proposed truce would last for at least 60 days. However, as of now, there has been no official confirmation from either the U.S. or Israeli government.
🔷️ On President Trump’s orders, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited Israel following the terror attack outside the Jewish Museum. She met with Prime Minister Netanyahu and victims, showing support and reinforcing the U.S.’s commitment to Israel’s security. Today, she will meet with Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to discuss continued cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
🔹Seventeen EU countries have backed a Dutch-led proposal to review the EU-Israel Association Agreement, aiming to determine if Israel is violating its human rights commitments under the accord. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated, “We are determined to recognize a Palestinian state.” In contrast, nine EU countries — including Germany, Italy, and Hungary — rejected the proposal.
The UK has suspended its trade deal negotiations with Israel and summoned the Israeli ambassador over the expansion of military operations in Gaza. In response, Israel’s Foreign Ministry asserted, “The British Mandate ended exactly 77 years ago. External pressure will not divert Israel from its path in defending its existence and security against enemies who seek its destruction.” Additionally, Sweden plans to push for EU sanctions on specific Israeli ministers, while France, the UK, and Canada have declared their joint intent to recognize a Palestinian state. The Spanish Parliament is also advancing a proposal to halt arms sales to Israel.
▪️Hungary’s Parliament has approved a bill launching a one-year process to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), signaling a significant move away from international legal oversight. This decision, aligned with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s emphasis on national sovereignty, would remove Hungary from the ICC’s jurisdiction, which prosecutes cases of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

May 25, 2025 Jewish Breaking News
The IDF is preparing to expand its military operation in Gaza with the goal of securing control over 75% of the territory within two months. Under the new plan, a major ground offensive will be launched to push the Palestinian population into three designated zones: the Mawasi coastal area in the south—previously labeled a “humanitarian zone”; a central region including Deir al-Balah and Nuseirat, where Israeli ground forces have not yet operated; and the core of Gaza City, where many civilians returned during a past ceasefire.
The current distribution estimates suggest approximately 700,000 Palestinians are in Mawasi, 300,000 to 350,000 are in central Gaza, and about one million are in Gaza City. This means that once the IDF advances, roughly 2 million residents—Gaza’s entire population—will be confined to just 25% of the territory.
The remaining 75% of Gaza, including all of Rafah, Khan Younis, and areas north of Gaza City, will be taken over by the IDF. These areas will be cleared of Hamas presence, with many structures expected to be demolished, and will remain under Israeli military control for the foreseeable future. As of now, Israel controls about 40% of the Strip.

⭕The last HOUTHI missile was targeted at Dimona – Israel’s nuclear center. If it had been hit, prevailing winds would have irradiated Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
.. Houthis, following Israels style, issue an evacuation order for Ben Gurion airport. The primary impact is to make foreign airlines nervous, stopping flights to Israel.
▪️MISSILE IN … LOD? A Matador missile, two pistols, a rifle, a silencer and a large amount of ammunition were discovered yesterday during an operation by Central District police and Border Guard soldiers in the Pardes Snir neighborhood in Lod. Two Arabs from Judea-Samaria were arrested.

In another seizure, Syrian security forces of al-Sharaa in Homs report that they have thwarted the smuggling of 2 truckloads of weapons, RPG’s, heavy rifles, sniper rifles, and a large supply of rockets to their enemies Hezbollah in Lebanon.
♦️GAZA UPDATES – Gazan sources indicate that a convoy escorted by the UN yesterday transferred medical equipment from the Indonesian and Kamal Adwan hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip to the Shafa’a Hospital in Gaza City, as pressure from the IDF to empty northern Gaza increases.
.. Gazans reporting a concentration of IDF efforts in the Karara area in the northern Khan Yunis district (south Gaza), including airstrikes, artillery fire, and prepared explosions of buildings.
.. Bizarrely, all the current activity in Gaza is ‘preparatory’. Apparently it was also pressure-warning, to try to force negotiations. It failed: After receiving approval from the political echelon, forces will soon begin to officially maneuver in the Gaza Strip. 5 divisions, all infantry and armor brigades, at full capacity.
♦️FOG OF WAR – The current IDF spokesman and the Chief of Staff above him are implementing a very different communications strategy – maintaining maximum silence to create fog of war, in contrast to the incessant talk of every minor advance during the previous chief and spokesman. This is less in terms of communications, but more correct operationally.
✡️UPCOMING HOLIDAY of Shavuot, next week Sunday night-Monday (+Tuesday outside Israel) – celebrating the giving of the Torah.
